“主语+系动词be+基数词+metre(s) tall.”为表达身高或物体高度的句型。 当基数词大于1时,metre要用复数形式metres。
e.g. The by is 1.7 metres tall. 这个男生的身高为1.7米。

拓展:“How tall + be + sb./ sth. ”意为“某人/某物有多高? ”,用于询问身高或高度。

辨析also、too与either

smell 作实义动词,意为“闻到,嗅到”;作连系动词,意为“闻起来,有……气味”,后常接形容词作表语。 作名词时,意为“气味”。

e.g. The air smells fresh after the rain. And the sky is blue.

talk 作动词,意为“交谈;谈话”。 常用搭配:talk with/ to sb. 意为“与某人交谈”; talk about 意为“谈论……”。

辨析talk 、 say、tell与speak
talk 常作不及物动词,意为“说话;谈话”,指双方互相交谈。常用词组为talk with/to sb.,意为“和某人交谈”
say 作及物动词,意为“说……;说话”,后常接说话的内容作宾语
tell tell意为“告诉;说”,作及物动词,后常跟双宾语,即tell sb. sth.=tell sth, to sb.,意为“告诉某人某事”
speak 强调说的动作,不强调所说的内容。 作及物动词时,常以某种语言作宾语。 此外speak 还可用于在较为正式的场合做演讲或演说
e.g. It pleased him to talk to her. 和她谈话让他高兴。
He said nothing to me about it. 对于这件事,他什么都没对我说。
Let me tell you a joke. 让我给你讲个笑话吧。
He can speak three languages. 他会说三种语言。
5. I don’t have ears but I can hear you.
我没有耳朵,但我能听见你说的话。
hear 作及物动词,意为“听见”。 强调“听”的结果,后接名词或代词作宾语;作不及物动词,意为“听见;听到”。
e.g. I can’t hear anything. 我什么都听不到。
My grandfather can’t hear very well. 我爷爷听觉不太好。
拓展:hear 后 可 接 复合宾语:
(1) hear sb. do sth. 听到某人做某事(表示听到动作的全过程)
(2) hear sb. doing sth. 听到某人正在做某事(表示动作正在进行)
6. Sorry, I can’t do your homework, but I can help you with your housework.
help sb. with sth. 帮助某人做某事
同义词组:help sb. (to) do sth.
e.g. Can you help me with my English = Can you help me (to) learn English 你能帮我学英语吗
