Diagnosed with diabetes(糖尿病), Thomas would need to inject himself with insulin(胰岛素) three times a day for the rest of his life or risk nerve damage, blindness, and even death. And if that weren't bad enough, he had no health insurance. After a month of feeling upset, Thomas decided he'd better find a way to fight back. He left Canton, Michigan for New York, got a job waiting tables, nicknamed himself the Diabetic Rockstar, and created , a free online community for diabetics and their loved ones—a place where over 1,100 people share personal stories, information, and resources.Jason Swencki’s son, Kody, was diagnosed with type diabetes at six. Father and son visit the online children's forums(论坛) together most evenings. “Kody gets so excited, writing to kids from all over,” says Swencki, one of the site's volunteers. “They know what he's going through, so he doesn’t feel alone.”Kody is anything but alone: Diabetes is now the seventh leading cause of death in the United States, with 24 million diagnosed cases. And more people are being diagnosed at younger ages. These days, Thomas’s main focus is his charity(慈善机构), Fight It, which provides medicines and supplies to people—225 to date—who can’t afford a diabetic’s huge expenses. Fight-it.org has raised about $23,000—in products and in cash. In May, Thomas will hold the first annual Diabetic Rockstar Festival in the Caribbean.Even with a staff of 22 volunteers, Thomas often devotes up to 50 hours a week to his cause, while still doing his full-time job waiting tables. “Of the diabetes charities out there, most are putting money into finding a cure,” says Bentley Gubar, one of Rockstar’s original members. "But Christopher is the only person I know saying people need help now."22.Which of the following is true of Christopher Thomas A.He needs to go to the doctor every day.B.He studies the leading cause of diabetesC.He has a positive attitude to this disease.D.He encourages diabetics by writing articles.23. was created for _________.A.diabetics to communicate B.volunteers to find jobsC.children to amuse themselves D.rock stars to share resources.24.According to the text, Kody ______.A.feel lonely because of his illness B.benefits from C.helps create the online kid’s forums D.writes children’s stories online25.What can we learn about Fight It A.It helps the diabetics in financial difficulties.B.It organizes parties for volunteer once a year.C.It offers less expensive medicine to diabetics.D.It owns a well-known medical website.26.The last paragraph suggests that Thomas ______.A.works full-time in a diabetes charity B.employs 22 people for his websiteC.helps diabetics in his own way D.ties to find a cure for diabetesThe apparent complexities of the TikTok algorithm(算法)may actually be as simple as a bag of chips. In a video with more than 700,000 views, creator Celeste Aria laid out her “Dorito theory”, which she uses to explain the addictive nature of endlessly-scrolling social media feeds.Everyone has a topic they just can’t stop thinking about, and Aria’s Roman Empire is Doritos. In her popular video, she expresses that TikTok scrolling is so addictive because it is never fully satisfying. Like a Dorito, a scrolling session on the For You Page is most stimulating during the first few bites. The end of the chip or video brings a desire to start consuming another one, thus returning to that first-bite feeling.Essentially, the Dorito theory suggests that activities like eating Doritos, which provide a quick burst of pleasure but lack lasting satisfaction, can be highly addictive. Aria compared it to consuming foods that offer deeper satisfaction, like a hearty steak, where the feeling of fullness and contentment lasts longer. The theory can apply to a lot of different experiences, but it’s particularly well-suited as a metaphor for the dopamine (多巴胺) boosts that occur while scrolling through social media feeds. Dr. Jamie Sorenson, a board-certified psychiatrist, said that the Dorito theory is consistent with existing ideas regarding addiction. “The more immediate the reward is, the more likely we are to repeat that behavior, whether it’s eating Doritos or scrolling on social media.”Aria may not be a licensed medical professional, but she treats junk food the way any nutritionist would. “I’d recommend just trying to remove anything that you think falls into the Dorito category,” she says in her video. The Dorito theory trend has led to reflections on the nature of addiction and the pursuit of instant satisfaction in today’s society, resonating (共鸣) with many TikTok users who recognize similar patterns in their own lives. So, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before Doritos responds to Aria’s theory.27.What do the underlined words “Roman Empire” in paragraph 2 probably refer to A.A video. B.A subject. C.A country. D.A snack.28.What makes Aria addicted to chips according to the text A.Social media. B.Different flavors. C.Lasting satisfaction. D.First-bite feeling.29.How does Aria explain the Dorito theory A.By introducing a concept. B.By conducting an experiment.C.By making a comparison. D.By quoting an expert’s words.30.What is a suitable title for the text A.The Role of Dopamine in Social Media AddictionB.The Theory behind Snacking: A Deep Dive into DoritoC.Maximizing Your Social Media Reach: Tips from Top CreatorsD.Snack-Sized Satisfaction: How Social Media Hooks Us Like a Bag of ChipsToo much heat is not safe for anyone, yet seniors are at higher risk for heat-related illnesses than younger folks. A new Canadian study has highlighted a fascinating reason why: they sweat more when they’re running low on body fluids (液体).When it’s hot out and you’re being active, you start perspiring, which helps your body regulate its temperature downward. It also makes you lose fluid, which in turn increases the concentration of sodium in your blood. When this concentration gets high(in other words, the body gets dehydrated (脱水), a younger adult will stop sweating as much, begin to feel overheated and thirsty, and likely reach for a glass of water. But older adults’ bodies tend to be less responsive to dehydration. Therefore, this can be challenging for older adults who typically do not adjust as well as others to sudden temperature changes. Additionally, older adults are more likely to have chronic (慢性的) medical conditions that affect the body’s response to temperature, and to take prescription medicines that alter the body’s ability to control temperature or sweat. A lot of sweating and fluid loss may continue without the warning of feeling uncomfortably thirsty. This ability to keep pushing may sound like a superpower, but it’s actually a reason to be extra careful: it brings a higher risk of heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and heat stress-related cardiovascular problems. As a result, older people may need reminders to drink water while being active during a heat wave. It could be a good idea, for example, to set a recurring alarm on your watch or smart phone before heading out. Also, since you can’t necessarily rely on your thirst, watch for other signs of dehydration, including infrequent urination (排尿), dark-colored urine, exhaustion, confusion, and dizziness.31.According to the study, why are seniors at higher risk for heat-related illnesses A.They are older or have health problems.B.They are likely to sweat with little body fluids.C.They sweat more when they’re short of body fluids.D.They tend to lose body fluids when they sweat.32.What does the underlined word “perspiring” in paragraph 2 mean A.Regulating. B.Sweating. C.Fainting. D.Tiring.33.What is NOT a symptom of dehydration A.Lack of urination. B.Lack of sleep.C.Extreme tiredness. D.Dark-colored urine.34.Which of the following can be inferred from the passage A.Older people are more vulnerable to summer heat.B.Heat in summer is extremely dangerous for seniors.C.Older people should not work out outdoors in summer.D.Seniors have chronic medical conditions due to the heat wave. How to Rebuild Trust in a RelationshipTo repair a relationship can be difficult. Dad was getting a flower bed ready for Mom to plant flowers in, I was picking up litter next to the fence and Mom was removing old leaves that had been in the yard since last autumn. I found a bird’s nest in the big tree behind our house. After a while, two birds flew back to the nest and I heard their calls from the nest. Dad said they were Robins (知更鸟).I was about to climb the tree to get a good look inside the nest when Dad saw and stopped me. Dad said Robins did not want to be bothered. I nodded. We went for quite a while and then decided to sit at the picnic table with a glass of cool water. As we sat there, I watched the Robin nest in the tree, wondering what was in it. Were there eggs Were there baby birds A moment later, we continued to work. When we finished up our work outside, we went in to fix some food and ate supper, then got cleaned up, watched some TV and went to bed.Morning came quickly with the sun shining in through the windows. While we ate breakfast, we talked about what we needed to do for the day. Since it was the weekend, we wanted to do some more work in the yard to finish the jobs we had started the day before. We met outside in the front yard this time to do some touch-up work to the front of the house. I quickly ran over to it and saw that it was the same nest I had seen in the tree the day before. It must have fallen out of the tree somehow. I looked around and saw the two Robins flying around, chirping loudly. They seemed distressed. I called out to my dad and mom, and they came over to see what was going on. Dad examined the nest and said it looked like it was still in good shape. He suggested that we try to put it back in the tree. With Dad’s help, I climbed up the tree carefully with the nest. I found a sturdy branch close to where the nest had originally been and gently placed it there. The Robins watched from a distance, still chirping but not as loudly as before. Once the nest was secure, I climbed back down and we all stepped back to see what would happen. After a few minutes, the Robins cautiously approached the nest. They inspected it and then settled back in, seemingly satisfied. I felt a sense of accomplishment and relief. We continued our yard work, but I kept an eye on the Robins throughout the day. It felt good to know that we had helped them and that they could continue to care for their nest and any eggs or baby birds inside. 展开更多...... 收起↑ 资源列表 遵义航天高级中学2025-2026学年高二上学期10月月考英语听力.mp3 遵义航天高级中学2025-2026学年高二上学期10月月考英语试卷(含音频).docx
