At age 90, I finally realized that I qualify as “elderly”. However, I don’t ever want that label of “senior citizen”. How I look and feel is only part of facing reality. The big factor is how other people treat me. This hit me rather dramatically as I was exiting a building the other day.As I started for the door, a young woman stepped ahead of me. Then she opened and held the door for me.
I expected an active retirement, but my body had other plans. I’m learning to embrace it. This kind of thing is beginning to happen all the time.At the hardware store, I bought a few minor items—light bulbs and birdseed—weighing perhaps a total of 10 pounds. As I started to pick up the bag, the cashier said, “Sir, let me get someone to help you with that.”
For a few weeks, all of these made me sad. I am a man of a certain generation after all: former Air Force officer and jet fighter pilot, former corporate executive, author, former speaker and consultant, and so on. But I’m too old for anyone to hire me even if I wanted them to. It can be depressing. It didn’t help a lot to realize that I’ve had a great life. But as I thought about that, trying my best to count my blessings, it began to sound like an obituary (讣告).
It has taken several weeks to realize that respect and learn from the past, but don’t let yourself be held hostage by your memories; and always look to the future with optimism but live in the present, treasuring every single minute of every single day, even the ones that your younger self would have complained about.
Finally, when all those younger folks offer to help, let go of the chagrin, realize that it makes other people feel good to help and just say, “Thank you.” I think they, whoever they are, refer to that as aging gracefully.
24.What made the author realize he was elderly
A.The memories of his successful past.
B.The help offered by a young woman.
C.His label “senior citizen” given by society.
D.His physical appearance and health condition.
25.How did the author firstly react to being treated like an old person
A.He felt spiritless. B.He was indifferent.
C.He was bored with it. D.He accepted it agreeably.
26.What do we know about the author from the text
A.He is lost in his past success. B.He has an idea for his obituary.
C.He has a positive outlook on life. D.He is suffering memory loss.
27.What does the underlined word “chagrin” in the last paragraph probably mean
A.Past. B.Fear. C.Confidence. D.Annoyance.

Surfing was once banned in Hawaii. Today, you can shape a surfboard like Hawaiian royalty. The art of playing in harmony with the ocean is something Native Hawaiians have done for centuries. It’s called surfing nowadays, but the ancient Hawaiians said wave sliding.
It was another way Native Hawaiians connected with the ocean, a place of cultural and spiritual significance, as well as what many depended on for their livelihoods. From fishing to canoeing, the ocean was the center of ancient Hawaiian culture.
It’s an addicting, excited feeling to slide along a wave. It’s no wonder the sport has exploded in popularity, with some surf breaks in Australia reportedly seeing more than double the amount of people in the water. Over the past decade, the number of surfers in the US has risen by 35%. It’s easy to pop into any surf shop and browse the many board options.
Some Native Hawaiian surfers are showing respect to their ancestors by showing people how surfing is more than a sport; it’s a way of life in Hawaiian culture. Oahu-born and Hawaii Island-living Bonga Perkins is one of them. Perkins’ life has always revolved around surfing. Growing up near Waikiki Beach, he started surfing professionally at age 18, going on to win two world titles for longboarding in 1996 and 2008.Shaping boards for over 40 years, Perkins offers guests at the Four Seasons Hualalai on Hawaii Island the chance to shape their own wooden surfboard called an alaia, the same kind that Hawaiian kings and queens rode hundreds of years ago. Then, they have the chance to ride the board they created in the water.
“Over the years, surfing has lost its original sense gradually, so I want to bring understanding the grassroots way, and what other way than to shape and surf your own board ” Perkins said, and through this experience, “people can really appreciate, connect and look at surfing in an entirely different way.”
28.What’s the relationship between ocean and ancient Hawaiians
A.It was their survival necessity.
B.It served as hard-to-find resource.

A.Meet the world surfing champion.
B.Learn to build their own alaia.

A.To set a new fashion.

D.To help surfers regain the meaning of surfing.

Dogs yawn (打哈欠)for many reasons. Sometimes they do it when they are tired, sometimes when they are stressed, and sometimes when they see someone else yawn. In fact, studies have shown that yawning is a complex behavior that can serve many different purposes.
For example, yawning has been shown to increase alertness and vigilance in both humans and animals. Dogs use yawning for much more than just showing tiredness; it is also an important form of communication! When puppies see their mother yawn, they often respond in kind. This behavior helps them to build social bonds with one another and strengthens the connection between the pup and the parent.Additionally, this act increases lung capacity (肺活量) which helps your furry friend regulate body temperature.
There is still much mystery about the purpose of yawning, but it is clear that it plays an important role. For dogs, yawning is a way to cool down the brain. Dogs don’t sweat like humans do, so they depend on panting (喘气) to regulate their body temperature. But panting can only do so much, and in hot weather, their brains can get overheated. Yawning helps to circulate the air around the brain and brings in cooler air from outside. In addition, when a dog yawns, the muscles in the face and jaw contract, which helps to release tension and relax the whole body.
Just like humans, dogs can yawn when they’re tired or stressed. In fact, a dog’s yawn is often a sign that they need a break. If your dog starts yawning more than usual, it’s important to take notice and see if there are any other changes in their behavior. For example, if they’re also panting heavily or pacing back and forth, it could be a sign that they’re feeling anxious. However, if your dog yawns after a good walk or a play session, it’s probably just because they’re sleepy. While occasional yawns are common and healthy for dogs, excessive amounts can raise some red flags about their wellbeing.
32.How many purposes of yawning are mentioned in paragraph 2
A.Two. B.Three. C.Four. D.Five.
33.What does the author want to say by mentioning “panting” in paragraph 3
A.Dogs pant to relax their whole body.
B.Dogs have difficulty panting in hot weather.
C.Dogs cool down their brains by panting heavily.
D.Dogs need to yawn to cool down besides panting.
34.What does it mean if your dog can’t stop yawning
A.It wants to go outside. B.It feels very annoyed.
C.It may be rather tired. D.It may be in bad health.
35.What can be the best title for the text
A.Why do dogs yawn
B.How do dogs regulate body temperature
C.The ways dogs display tiredness and stress
D.The relationship between dog yawning and its health

“If you buy things you do not need, soon you will have to sell things you need.” This wise advice is from Warren Buffet, one of the greatest financial minds of the 21st century. 36 This is true especially in the present economic climate.
While being frugal (节俭的) has long been a part of Eastern culture, the relatively recent growth of wealth in China and the ease of shopping have led to increased consumerism for many across the country. Yet this has been pushing up the prices of certain bare essentials such as housing, transportation and food, which is forcing people to think carefully while spending money. 37
The Internet is flooded with advice on where one can save money and good opinions about how they should spend their money. For example, clothes can be bought second-hand, but you should never skip a visit to the dentist. It makes sense to prioritize (优先考虑) goods and services that directly affect your health. 38 Of course, it is still fine to occasionally spend money on a nice vacation, but buying many shoes you will only wear a few times is neither responsible nor ecofriendly.
Hopefully, we all fully understand that the resources on the earth are limited. 39 As a result, the choice (forced or not) to be frugal is good for not only one’s wallet but the planet in the long run. Have you ever chosen to starve yourself to get a pair of limited-edition sneakers 40
A.A continuous growth model on this planet is not ecofriendly.
B.If so, it is high time you started making changes for yourself.
C.Meanwhile, you should limit those that are fancy but not necessary.
D.These words have always not been taken seriously by young people.
E.They are meant to encourage people to buy more stuff than they need.
F.It is no wonder then that being frugal is once again becoming a main trend.
G.Many young people today appear to be taking these words very much to heart.

One day when I was reading, I received a call from the headteacher of my high school inviting me to give a talk as a representative of alumni association(校友会代表). He asked me to speak to the group the next morning. I felt so honored to have got such an opportunity and immediately replied yes. But after the call, I became nervous and anxious.
The whole night, I polished (润色) my speech again and again and practiced before a mirror until I could deliver the speech fluently. Even though I had made full preparations, I could not sleep because of great anxiety. What if words failed me and didn’t attract audience at all What if I forgot the words in the middle of the speech ... I even considered calling the headteacher, making up an excuse, and telling him that I could not come with regret. Finally I gathered some courage to go. I thought, “If I miss this opportunity, surely the school will never invite me again to any of their programs.”
Anyway, I reached the school on time. Before giving the talk, my whole body was shaking with nervousness. When my turn came and I started speaking, my heartbeat increased and my mouth went dry. I wasn’t even able to read the written speech properly. I was not aware of where I was standing and what I was reading. I just managed to finish the speech in a low voice. One possible version:
Advantages and Disadvantages of Studying Abroad
In recent years, studying abroad has been popular. A large number of Chinese students have gone abroad to study.
There are many advantages in studying abroad. First of all, students can learn much more advanced knowledge of science and technology from other countries, and at the same time broaden their horizons. What’s more, they can introduce Chinese culture to people all over the world.
However, studying abroad means costing an arm and a leg, which may be a heavy burden for some families. Furthermore, being far away from their home country makes them feel lonely and homesick.
From my point of view, studying abroad is wonderful. It can make the students more independent and learn to cooperate with others.
第二节
One possible version:
After my speech, I met with the headteacher and explained what happened to me. Instead of blaming me, he comforted me warmly. He told me that this happened to everyone. Even great speakers faced the same things when they started. He encouraged me to practice more and not to give up. And he even suggested that I come again next time. With his encouragement, I made up my mind to overcome the problem of public speaking anxiety. I was greatly convinced that I could do better next time.
Around one month later, I was invited to give another speech. After a month of practice, this time, I was feeling comfortable and confident. It tuned out that my speech was appreciated by the headteacher as well as the teachers because I was able to get my idea across to them. They encouraged me and praised my efforts, which made me very happy. After delivering it successfully, I became more confident. I was grateful to this opportunity because it made me realize that everything is possible if we have the courage to take the first step.

(Text 10)
M:Yesterday, I went to a place called Sidelli with my wife and children. It was really interesting. In the morning, we visited a theater. It was built 2,000 years ago beside the sea and people used to watch plays there in the open air. There used to be an old fishing village nearby. After that, we had a guided tour.Instead of going to the old palace, which was full of tourists, our guide took us up a hill and showed us around what’s left of a library. Most of it had fallen down, but it still had a fantastic atmosphere. We then took a bus into the countryside for lunch, and we ate next to a waterfall.Afterwards, we took a walk from there to a lake.In the afternoon, we chose to go on a tour of two different factories. One factory made pots and plates, which sounded dull to me, and the other produced carpets. That was the one we went on.There were lots of traditional designs, all made by local people. It was amazing. That was the last thing we did that day.
