Most of us spend around 50-60 hours sleeping every week. That’s a lot of time for dirt, sweat and skin cells (污垢、汗水和皮肤细胞) to build up on our sheets (床单)! Without regular cleaning, the dirt can affect our health. So it’s very important to keep our sheets clean.
But how often should we wash our sheets According to the Sleep Foundation, once a week is best. If you don’t use your bed every day, you can wash the sheets every two weeks. But some people should wash their sheets even more often.
If you have a pet, you should wash the sheets every three to four days. Pets leave fur and dirt behind. If you have asthma or allergies (哮喘或过敏症), you may also find it helpful to wash your sheets more often.
There’s another reason to wash your sheets: dust mites (尘螨)! These tiny bugs (小虫子) live on beds. They are so small that you can’t see them. But, they love eating dead skin cells. A bed can have up to 10 million of them! It sounds horrible, but it’s true.
These bugs are hard to kill, but washing your sheets helps. When you wash your sheets, you wash away their food and many of the bugs, too. This results in fewer dust mites and a cleaner bed.
So remember, washing your sheets once a week is a smart and healthy habit. It helps you sleep better and keeps your bed fresh and clean!

Have you ever looked at your cat and thought, “Do you know who I am ” Scientists in Japan wanted to see if cats know what their owners smell like.
Scientists in Tokyo worked with thirty house cats. They put three plastic tubes (塑料软管) in front of each cat. Inside the first tube was a stick (棍) with the owner’s scent (气味). Inside the second tube was a stick with the scent of a stranger. The last tube held a clean stick with no scent at all.
The cats were free to smell each tube. Most cats spent more time smelling the stick with the stranger’s scent than the other two sticks. This shows this: The cats knew that the smell was new, and not from anyone familiar.
Cats often use smell and scents to know and communicate with other cats. And in earlier studies, baby cats also smelt strange mother cats longer than they smelt their own mothers. So cats notice what’s new, and take their time finding it out.
After smelling the sticks, some cats rubbed (摩擦) their faces on the tubes. This is a marking action, and means the cats were marking the tubes with their own scent.
So what does this tell us _______
However, the researchers say they still don’t know if cats can know people just by smell. For now, your cat might not know it’s you by your smell alone—but they do know you’re not a stranger!
42.Why did the cats spend more time on the stick with a stranger’s scent
A. They thought there was much food.
B. The stranger’s scent was similar to their owners’.
C. They noticed the smell was new and wanted to learn more about it.
D. There was something wrong with their noses after they smelt the other sticks.
43.Which of the following can we put back into the blank “_____”
A. Cats have no ability to know different smells at all.
B. Cats can know people quickly by using only one sense.
C. Cats are only interested in the smell of their owners.
D. Cats can tell the difference between familiar and unfamiliar smells.
44.What can we infer from the text
A. The cats spent the least time smelling the clean stick.
B. The scientists may do more studies on cats in the future.
C. The smell of the stranger made the cats feel afraid and run away.
D. The clean stick was used to show cats have a good sense of smell.

50. Dear Peter,
Last month, I joined an eco-tour in a nature reserve to learn about wildlife. We camped near a river, listened to experts sharing their knowledge and saw wild Sichuan snub-nosed monkeys!
They have blue faces and short noses. They eat leaves, fruits, and tree bark. Sadly, they are endangered. The number of them is falling because of human activities.
However, there are ways to help protect them. We should strictly punish those who hunt these monkeys. Besides, raising public awareness is important.
Let’s work together to help them!
Yours,
Li Hua
