This is the third lesson of Unit 4, focusing on the grammar section of Section A. The core grammar item of this unit is the functions and usages of the conjunctions “and”, “but” and “because”. Activity 3a lists typical sentence patterns containing these three conjunctions. Activity 3b asks students to make sentences by matching two parts of sentences. Activity 3c requires students to fill in the blanks with the correct conjunctions. Activity 3d tasks students with using the knowledge they have learned to ask their classmates about the subjects they have on their favorite school day, as well as the subjects their classmates like and the reasons for their preference. All these exercises center on the usage of the conjunctions “and”, “but” and “because”.
By reading the sentences in the table, students can summarize the usages of the conjunctions “and”, “but” and “because”, and develop the ability to express their personal preferences for subjects and the corresponding reasons. Written exercises help students consolidate the use of these conjunctions, while speaking practice enables them to become more proficient in talking about their favorite subjects.
The teaching materials are presented in the form of sentences and paragraphs. The content is simple and closely related to students’ school life. When completing Activity 3b, students need to understand the context and identify key words; when working on Activity 3c, they should clarify the logical relationships between sentences. Activity 3d provides students with opportunities to conduct comprehensive speaking practice.

Step 1: Lead in 1. T guides Ss to watch the video and talk about their favourite subjects. 2. T leads Ss to talk about their feelings towards some subjects and explain the reasons. Summarize the usage of and,but, and because. and和but为连词,可连接两个并列的单词、词组或句子。其中and表示并列或递进关系,意为“和;并且”,but表示转折关系,意为“却;但是”。 because为连词,表因果关系,意为“因为”。 To guide students to identify conjunctions by reading sentences, and finally summarize the usages of “and”, “but” and “because”.
Step 3: Practicing 1. T guides Ss to fill in the blanks 3a using conjunctions. 2. T asks students to finish the task in 3b. 3. T asks Ss to finish the task in 3c. Then answer some questions about the text. 4. T leads Ss to summarize how to introduce their favourite subject and ask them to answer the questions in 3d. 5. T guides students to do a survey in pairs, asking their deskmates about their favorite subject and having them explain the reasons. 1. Complete task 3a and identify the correct logical relationships. 2. Match the two parts to make sentences in 3b. 3. Complete the 3c exercise. Then answer the relevant questions about the text. Answer the questions in 3d. Work in pairs: Each asks their deskmate about their favorite subject and has them explain the reasons. To help students consolidate the grammar knowledge learned through practice and guide them to apply grammar knowledge in context. To guide students to first summarize ways to introduce their favorite subjects, then apply these methods in real communication situations.
Step 4: Rolling-up Summarize the key content in this lesson. Follow the teacher to summarize the content together about the usage of and, but, and because. Help students to summarize the content learned in this lesson, consolidate and deepen the impression.
Step 5: Homework Must do: 1. Memorize the sentences in Grammar Focus. 2. Write a summary that talks about group members’ favorite subjects and explains the reasons for their preferences. Choose to do: Conduct a survey among classmates using the following questions, then write a report based on the results: 1) What is their favorite school day 2) What subjects do they have on that day 3) What are their favorite subjects on that day, and why To implement the “dual reduction” policy for homework: reduce quantity while ensuring quality, focus on communicative application in practical scenarios, and minimize mechanical drills.
