Content analysis
What
This section centers on a conversation between a school reporter Lu Jiaqi and a student Tom. The content of it is mainly about Tom’s daily routine, like when to get up, have breakfast, go home, do homework and when to go to bed. In the process of interview, Lu jiaqi lists questions to advance the topic and Tom gives direct answers and further explanation. From the conversation, students can learn Tom’s positive attitude towards life.
Why
This dialogue focuses on time management, daily activities and habit formation, and aims to help students understand the importance of time management, daily life and study habits. Based on the previous listening task, this dialogue is about Tom’s schedule in the form of an interview, so that students can understand the schedule of foreign students.
After learning this lesson, students should be clear about the following learning objectives: 1. Enhance the awareness of time management: understand the preciousness of time, reasonable arrangement of daily life and study time. 2. Develop good living habits: Learn the daily living habits of Lu Jiaqi and Tom to promote physical and mental health. 3. Improve oral expression ability: Through dialogue practice, students can exercise oral expression ability and improve English listening and speaking ability.
How
This lesson presents Tom’s daily life at school in the form of dialogue, raises questions to guide students to think and answer, and then deepens students’ understanding and mastery of the text content through activities such as fill-in-the-blank and role-play. And students ask partners about their daily life at school and give reports to improve their language application ability.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this section, students will be able to:
1. Pronounce the eight consonants like /s/, /z/, / /, and / / etc, as well as the common letters and letter combinations that represent these sounds;
2. Grasp the sentence stress properly when reading and performing dialogues;
3. Distinguish the differences in function and meaning of the special questions guided by what time and when;
4. Talk about the daily routine, and describe the daily activities;
5. Accurately identify sentence patterns of asking and answering work and rest time in dialogues.

Step 1. Pronunciation Reading after the tape. Show a video about how to pronounce the 8 consonants Divide all the words into two categories. (voice consonant and voiceless consonant) and provide more sentences containing these phonemes to Ss. 4. Summarize the rules about the stressed words to Ss and play the beginning part of the conversation in 2a. Ask them to notice the stressed words. Read after the tape. Listen and repeat the words in Pronunciation. Repeat and imitate the video. 3. Read the sentences and focus on pronunciation. 4. Listen to the beginning part of the conversation in 2a and circle the stressed words. To help Ss to master the pronunciation rules and allow them to review the stressed syllables.
Step 2. Listening 1.Warming up Show some pictures of students’ daily activities and guide them to briefly describe these activities in English. 2. Predicting Show the picture of 2a and ask the following questions to get students thinking. ①Where are the two students ②What is in girl’s hand ③What is she doing ④What do you think the boy is doing What is probably their relationship 3. Listening Instruct Ss to listen to the conversation and fill in the blanks. 1. Look at the pictures and think about what they have learned. Answer the teacher’s questions. 2. Look at the picture of 2a and answer the teacher’s questions. 3. Listen to the conversation and fill in the blanks. To cultivate Ss’ ability of guessing and help them obtain basic information in a conversation.
Step 3. Reading 1. Play the recording again. Ask Ss to read the conversation and circle the key words first. 2. Ask Ss to complete activity 2b. 3. Simply deliver the differences between what time and when in special questions. Ask Ss to read again and complete 2c. 4. Ask Ss to complete a summary of the conversation. 1. Step 4. Speaking 1. Role-play Play the tape and ask Ss to listen to the conversation again and pay attention to the stressed words. Then role-play the conversation. 2.Group work 1. Instruct Ss to ask his partner about his/her school day routine and to tick what he/she does in the expression list. 2. Ask Ss to work with their group members and give a report according to the survey using what time and when. Provide some useful expressions. Listen to the conversation again. Work with their partners to play the roles of the conversation. Work with his/her partner to collect his/her information of day routine. 2. Complete a report by using what time and when. To consolidate what Ss have learned. To understand the importance of time management, living and study habits.
Step 5. Homework Basic: 1. Complete the school day schedule report within the group 2. Practice Conversation 2a with a partner, focusing on stressing words. Extended: Make the School Day Routine Vlog of the class and interview the classmates’ daily schedule. Choose one to complete. To consolidate what Ss have learned.
