In Madrid, Spain, people begin New Year’s Day celebrations on the night of December 31st. They take part in many activities to welcome the new year. People usually have a big dinner with their family on that day. After dinner, lots of people go to the street and have different celebrations. At midnight, the bells of Puerta del Sol ring together twelve times and people eat twelve grapes and then say “happy new year” to each other. In doing so, people hope they will have good luck in every month of the coming new year.
