DIY is short for “Do It Yourself”. This idea became popular in the late
1950s and early 1960s.
At first, it was mainly used to talk about woodworking, but later people started using it more for home projects and gardening. That’s why DIY can mean different things to different people now. Some see it as a way to make things by hand and learn new skills. Others like it because they can do what they want without asking for help. For some, it’s a chance to create something that wouldn’t be there otherwise.

Since young people are often looking for ways to express creative ideas, their interest in DIY makes sense.
Second, DIY can help reduce stress. Many young people today are dealing with stress. When people work with their hands, their minds often start to relax. Instead of thinking about their daily worries, they have to focus on the project at hand. As a result, their stress often goes away.
Third, young people can make special friendships through DIY. They can meet people with similar interests and share their ideas with each other. They can even work on exciting projects together.
