Spring Festival. Among all the traditional festivals in China, I like the Spring Festival best. It usually
comes in January or February. It lasts for days. During the Spring Festival, it is time for family
members to get together. On the eve of the Spring Festival, all family members enjoy different kinds
of food, such as dumplings and fish. We also stay up late, hoping to have a new start in the following
year. What's more, children are always looking forward to getting lucky money and setting off
fireworks with friends happily. It is my favorite festival because it can make us feel not only love
and happiness, but also the importance of family.
By the way, it's very cold here in winter, so don't forget to bring your warm clothes.
I'm looking forward to your coming.

In the past ten years, great progress has been made in technology. It seems like everything has
been reinvented and greatly improved. However, there is one thing that is different. It was invented
over 100 years ago but remained (保持) unchanged until now. It is the white cane (盲杖) used by
blind people. Many blind people have used this kind of white cane for a long time. However, it has
seen no real improvement, until a blind engineer named Kursat decided to make a difference.
Kursat is from Turkey (土耳其). He lost his eyesight at the age of 2. He well understands the
difficulties and challenges that the blind face. That’s because he himself is a blind person. As a blind
person, when he is at the subway station, he doesn’t know which is his exit (出口). When walking on
the street, he may run into obstacles.
Kursat decided to do something to help the blind. He invented a new kind of cane called the
WeWalk. This smart cane is equipped (配备) with built — in speakers and different sensors (传感
器). The sensors can “see” obstacles in front of it, like a wall or a car, and then the cane will vibrate
(震动) to tell the user. It can also connect to the Internet through Bluetooth. It can give the user
information about the place he or she is visiting, such as the name of the store or the direction of the
library. Besides, the cane can be folded, so it’s easy to carry. What’s more, the price of the WeWalk is
around $500, which is relatively cheap compared with other high-tech products for the blind. This
invention will bring great changes to the lives of blind people.

四、阅读表达(共 5 小题,共 10 分)。
Great inventions are changing and improving our lives in many ways. A 3D printer, one of the
great inventions, is like a magical machine. It can make objects into real things from computer
designs. What is more amazing, two young scientists made a special 3D food printer in Qatar. It can
use bits of vegetables to create food!
These smart students, Annan and Mansoori, are students at Carnegie Mellon University in
Doha. To make the 3D carrot, they first used very small parts of a real carrot and made lots of them
in a science lab. Then they used these tiny parts like ink (墨水) in their printer to make the carrot. By
using vegetable cells (细胞) and ultraviolet (紫外线) (UV) , a new carrot is printed. UV light is a
kind of energy that helps stick the carrot bits together. The invention may help with food safety.
They chose carrots in the test because scientists knew a lot about how carrot parts grew into
plants. Mansoori said 3D-printed food can be made cheaply. It doesn’t require large areas of land. It
also does not require maintenance (维护) costs. 3D-printed carrots are cheaper than real carrots.
Today, 733 million people are facing hunger. Mansoori hopes 3D printers will be used in
restaurants, supermarkets, and hospitals. The purpose, she said, is to make food reachable to people
all over the world.
