A
Just what is about roller coasters It seems we just can’t get enough of them. This week we take a look at some of the top amusement parks and the roller coasters that have helped make them famous.
Holiday World
It is a family park in the sense that resists the exciting atmosphere of its competitors and instead offers a more relaxing and friendly experience. Rare in that it is privately owned and it has many features that other parks often can’t match. There is lots of entertainment for youngsters, so parents appreciate the park’s family-friendly policy of free entry to the water park, reasonable food prices and unlimited soft drinks free of charge.
Lake Compounce
Lake Compounce, being one of America’s more traditional parks, is a rare find indeed. As the oldest continuously operating amusement park in the US, it has been a popular family spot since 1846. Like many old-time parks, it fell on hard times and was in danger of being closed. Luckily, in 1977, a well-known company came to its rescue with huge infusions (注入) of cash. The transformed park with its new rides is attracting many new fans.
Knott’s Berry Farm
As one of America’s favourite theme parks, Knott’s has something for everyone. For those seeking a breathtaking rush, try the roller coaster, Ghost Rider or the Xcelerator. Ghost Rider is the single largest attraction in amusement park history and one of the longest and tallest wooden roller coasters in the world. If you are after something a little less exciting, go to Camp Snoopy or visit the heart of Knott’s, Ghost Town, for a glance of life in the Wild West of the 1880s. With its cowboys, carriages, steam trains and historic buildings— many transported from mining towns — Ghost Town will let you relive a piece of the past.
Islands of Adventure
In the style of Walt Disney World, Islands of Adventure (IOA) is divided into themed “lands”. Unlike the sugar-coated Magic Kingdom, however, IOA features attractions guaranteed to set the heart racing. Its roller coasters are state-of-the-art fun. While the Spider-man is fantastic, you haven’t truly lived until you’ve experienced the Incredible Hulk’s wild and unique uphill launch. The effect is like being trapped inside an airplane that’s flying out of control.

From a young age, I collected role models. In school, as a teenager, I tried to channel Whitney Houston. In the working world, I paid close attention to our female senior managers. By watching and imitating others—especially women of color who looked or sounded like me—I gained confidence in my own abilities.
But when I started my own company, my pool of role models became smaller. Only 2.1% of risk investment goes to women-founded companies. “Who can I look up to ” I wondered. “Who can I learn from ” I decided to create an inspiration wall in my office, with photos of the role models I could see—women like Oprah, Michelle Obama, and Vicky, co-founder of a skincare brand. I never thought I’d meet these women, but their success gave me hope.
Then one day, a couple of years ago, I surprised myself with a thought: what if I did reach out to one of my role models I feared rejection, but my desire for connection was stronger. I chose Vicky, whose journey had long inspired me. I didn’t have her email address. So I tried a cold Instagram message, and she responded the next day!
That was in 2022. We’ve spoken numerous times since, and the conversations have been invaluable. They’re rare chances to gain guidance from a successful woman. But here’s the most valuable lesson I gained: when Vicky first replied to me, I wasn’t the only one excited. Vicky was excited too because she’s always looking for ways to support other women. All my life, I’d thought of role models as a one-way relationship: I’d gain strength from someone stronger. But the situation is more than that.
I once sent Vicky a care package from my sunglasses company. She wrote me a thank-you note, and texted a selfie of her and her daughter wearing my products. Today, I keep that letter on my desk next to my keyboard—a reminder that just as I believe in her, she believes in me. We’re all here to help each other grow.
24. How did the author build up her confidence
A. By observing and copying her models. B. By making friends with persons like her. C. By cooperating with women of color. D. By starting her own sunglasses company.
25. What is the author’s intention of creating an inspiration wall in her office
A. To inspire her employees’ creativity.
B. To encourage herself to achieve success.
C. To make her workplace more attractive.
D. To improve her employees’ work efficiency.
26. Why did the author choose to reach out to Vicky
A. She was afraid of being rejected.
B. She only had Vicky’s email address.
C. Vicky’s story had always motivated her.
D. Vicky liked giving guidance to other women.
27. What can be concluded according to the text
A. Strength flows both ways. B. Practice makes perfect.
C. A good beginning is half done. D. Actions speak louder than words.

Summer mornings at Wangjiangjing town’s Kaisen (Happy) Tribe in Jiaxing, Zhejiang, feature soft light over grassland paths and the pleasant smell of lotus from nearby wetlands. Opened last October, this rural retreat(度假村) combines village landscapes with children’s play, camping, farming, and environmental education, attracting urban travelers, especially from Shanghai.
“Our core philosophy is creating a boundless classroom in nature,” states Mo Xiaohua, Kaisen Tribe Operations Lead. The project embraces forest-style education and community growth, aligning(使一致) with Wangjiangjing’s vision for canal-themed experiential learning and cultural tourism as a new family destination.
The Grand Canal, which long shaped the town’s identity, saw its bustling past fade with modernization. Renewed national focus on canal preservation drives local efforts to repurpose idle resources.
Guided by green development principles, the project revived an abandoned village. Designers integrated playgrounds, fishponds, farms, and paddies into existing forests, fields, and ponds, achieving ecological transformation. This draws up to 10,000 visitors on peak days, with plans for more uniquely themed hotel rooms.
Kaisen Tribe is part of the Jiaxing Grand Canal Culture & Tourism Resort. “The goal is a living community, not an untouchable museum,” says Shen Tao, a resort official. Since 2018, the resort has pursued “heritage-first” development, rooted in its UNESCO status — including the Ming Dynasty Changhong Bridge. Eleven large lakes shape the classic Jiangnan water town landscape and traditions like lotus cultivation.
Historic repurposing is key: A 1960s granary(谷仓) complex now houses a café and cultural space, preserving its architecture. Another granary hosts a digital hub with VR and performances. A reconstructed steam locomotive(火车头) from the historic Suzhou-Jiaxing Railway (1936-1944) serves as a visitor center and patriotic site near wartime bunkers (碉堡).
Unique attractions like reptile museums, concrete pipe rooms, rice field tours, and animal encounters appeal strongly to younger travelers seeking social media moments. Future plans include expanding night tourism, enhancing digital integration, and developing a youth soccer training base for sports tourism.
28. What is Kaisen Tribe’s core educational concept
A. Nature-based limitless learning. B. Urban community growth centers.
C. Traditional farming restoration. D. Tech-driven immersive learning experiences.
29. Which of the following best explains “idle resources” underlined in paragraph 3
A. Polluted water ecosystems. B. Vast fields and ponds.
C. Abandoned heritage structures. D. Forgotten traditional crafts.
30. What can be inferred about the historical sites
A. Bunkers prevent cultural exchange.
B. Changhong Bridge needs UNESCO approval.
C. Granaries focus more on storage than new tech.
D. Old buildings get new uses while keeping history.
31. What key principle drives Kaisen Tribe’s success
A. Tourist numbers define cultural value. B. Commercial interests drive sustainability.
C. Innovation through heritage revival. D. Technology replaces traditional experiences.
D
Healthcare organizations face big problems: costs are rising, but income is growing slowly. Cloud technology offers a solution by replacing outdated systems, improving efficiency, and enhancing care. Key benefits include helping doctors make better decisions by giving them faster access to patient information, lowering costs by making operations run smoother—which is crucial when government payments are low—and providing stronger security to protect patient data. As Dr. Michelle Flemmings from Oracle notes, older computer systems often made work harder with repetitive tasks, while the cloud makes accessing data easier and reduces doctors’ workload.
Adding AI makes the cloud even more powerful. AI acts like a smart helper for doctors. Flemmings compares it to having a top medical expert by your side. AI helps assess patient risks, suggests best practices, and finds vital information in health records instantly. This teamwork speeds up tasks, like finding patients who qualify for clinical trials during regular visits—opportunities often missed before. Also, AI-powered patient websites offer personalized services like online booking, meeting the high demand for digital options.
Cloud uses are growing fast: reducing missed appointments, automating complex data analysis, spotting security risks, and simplifying administration tasks. However, moving to the cloud has challenges, mainly cost and security worries. Flemmings advises starting small with pilot projects to fix specific problems, especially for smaller hospitals. Importantly, cloud security is often better than old systems, with AI boosting threat detection. As Amar Nagaram from IU Health highlights, the cloud simplifies tech systems and improves teamwork.
Ultimately, the cloud is changing healthcare’s future. It cuts costs and tech burdens while speeding up innovation. Secure cloud tools let patients access care remotely, beyond the clinic. Nagaram states that without cloud tech, healthcare groups can’t compete. While moving needs careful planning, progress is happening. For example, IU Health uses AI to prioritize urgent patient help requests. Cloud technology is building a foundation for healthcare focused on patients, quality, and constant innovation.
What are the primary pressures driving healthcare towards cloud adoption
A. Demand for better patient experiences.
B. Rising costs and slowing revenue growth.
C. Shortage of physical data storage space.
D. Government requirements for new technology.
33. How is AI described when assisting a doctor
A. A clinical support tool. B. A real-time data processor.
C. A top consultant nearby. D. An independent advisor.
34. What is the recommended strategy for adopting cloud technology
A. Ignoring cost considerations. B. Gradual launch starting small.
C. Taking full-system migration. D. Outsourcing all IT operations.
35. Which can be a suitable title for the text
A. The Rise of Digital Patient Platforms.
B. The AI Revolution in Medical Diagnosis.
C. Cutting Healthcare Costs Through Technology.
D. Revolutionizing Healthcare Through Cloud Technology.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
In cities across the globe, up to a quarter of office buildings are unoccupied, along with other urban properties, from storage to abandoned skyscrapers. To put this space to use, many cities are transforming empty buildings for other uses. 36
Just as the name suggests, vertical (垂直的) farming is the practice of growing crops in layers as opposed to traditional horizontal rows. These layers are often placed in spaces unfit for farming, but now we can grow crops there due to advanced agricultural methods. 37 However, thanks to technology, artificial light, and controlled temperatures and humidity, office spaces have proved to be great environments for farming.
38 It dates back to over 2,000 years ago with the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Modern vertical farming simply began as an experiment in 1999, focused on growing food on the rooftops of Manhattan. Their work eventually transformed into using high-rise buildings as vertical farms to feed thousands of people in a sustainable manner. Vertical farming is now a $6 billion industry.
The main benefit of vertical farming is that it maximizes the yield of crops by efficiently using space. 39 It is made possible by their controlled environments and soilless agriculture methods like hydroponic(水培法). Hydroponics allows plants to grow in a water-based solution rather than soil, saving water. In fact, hydroponic systems only require 10% of the water of a traditional field.
Despite being untraditional, vertical farms produce over 50 types of plants, ranging from leafy greens and herbs to experimental fruits and more! 40 The reason lies in that they are capable of growing a variety of produce at all times and providing people with local fresh foods at affordable prices.
A. Vertical farming has a rich history.
B. One solution is indoor vertical farming.
C. The practice isn’t as simple as it sounds.
D. Most vertical farms can grow all year round.
E. That said, vertical farming will replace traditional agriculture soon.
F. Despite the benefits, the method also comes with considerable downsides.
G. This diversity and consistent output help address a critical urban issue: food deserts.

Jenny was the only child in her home. She had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily.
She couldn’t help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding from her mother. Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat, but it was not even possible for her, since she had nothing with her. She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she sighed and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles ”
“Oh, yes..., but I don’t have money on me...” she replied.
“That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,” said the man, “Come in.”
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive. As she was eating, Jenny cried silently. “What is it ” asked the man kindly.
“Nothing, actually I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny as she wiped her tears. “Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless compared to a stranger!!”
Hearing the words, the seller smiled, “Girl, do you really think so I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you Have you expressed your gratitude to her ”
Jenny sat there, speechless and numb with shock She remembered Mother’s familiar face and weathered hands. “Why didn’t I think of that A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted, but I have never thanked my mum for what she has done for me.”

VI书面表达(15分 )
【参考范文一】
Dear David,
I’m writing to share my opinion on the theme of the weekly English video podcast. After careful consideration, I’d like to vote for “Emotional Outlets” instead of “Futuristic Visions”.
As high school students, we often face pressure from studies and relationships, but many of us struggle to find proper ways to release emotions. This topic is highly relevant for students, as it provides a platform to openly discuss emotions, stress management, and mental well-being. It would not only help improve our English expression but also create a supportive community where we can share experiences and coping strategies. This theme encourages empathy, self-reflection, and practical communication skills, making it both meaningful and engaging.
I’m looking forward to the first episode!
Yours,
Li Hua
【参考范文二】
Dear David,
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to share my thoughts on the proposed podcast themes. After careful consideration, I would like to recommend “Futuristic Visions” as the theme for our weekly English podcast.
I believe this topic will greatly engage students because it encourages creativity and critical thinking about technological advancements, environmental solutions, and societal changes. It aligns with our generation’s interest in innovation and allows us to explore diverse perspectives. Additionally, discussing future trends can inspire practical language use, as it involves describing possibilities, expressing opinions, and debating ideas. This theme not only enhances our language skills but also broadens our horizons.
Thank you for considering my suggestion. I am excited about the podcast and look forward to contributing!

One possible version:
Approaching the doorway, Jenny took a deep breath. Her palms sweating and throat tightening, she missed the days when she was the apple of Mother’s eye. She was so accustomed to accepting everything from Mom that she almost forgot to express timely gratitude, which led to the quarrel. With an empty stomach, she came across a seller of wisdom, whose words drove her to reflect on their relationship. Luckily, she was determined to admit her fault. “It’s never too late to make a sincere apology.” She whispered to herself, head down.
A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. She raised her head to see the familiar face and the worried eyes. “Here you come! I've been looking for you,” came the tired voice. Jenny couldn’t help but throw herself into her mother’s arms. “I’m sorry and thank you for all you have done for me.” She could feel tears well up in her eyes. “You’re always my little girl!” Mom eyed Jenny tenderly. As the setting sun cast a golden glow on both of their faces, they embraced each other tightly.
