Simon is reading an article about the 24 Solar Terms. Read it with him and answer the questions below.
In ancient times, Chinese people noticed the changes in seasons and weather. They divided the year into 24 parts—this is the 24 Solar Terms.
The terms start with the Beginning of Spring and end with the Major Cold. They show changes in crop growth, temperature, as well as other weather conditions.
Today many farmers still use the 24 Solar Terms to help decide what to do in their fields. The terms also have important cultural meanings beyond farming. Some of them are connected with traditional festivals. They have had a positive effect on Chinese culture for thousands of years.
1 What are the uses of the 24 Solar Terms
1)They show changes in crops grow, temperature, and weather conditions.
2)Many farmers use them to know what to do in their fields.
3)They also have important cultural meanings. Some are connected with traditional festivals, and they have helped Chinese culture a lot for thousands of years.
2 Do you know any Solar Terms related to traditional festivals Give one example.
Yes. For example, the Winter Solstice is a solar term that has a traditional festival. On this day, people in many places eat special food like dumplings or sweet rice balls. It’s a time for families to get together, and it’s an important part of our culture.
