Andrew Parker, an English inventor, artist and zoologist at the University of Oxford, thinks color is not a thing. The world’s best colors, he says, come not from pigments (颜料), but from materials arranged into crystalline nano-structures (晶体纳米结构). And Parker thinks that we will have colors far richer and more shining than the common colors that we can see today. He calls it structural color (结构色).
Structural color was first recorded in the 17th century, in some birds5 feathers, but it is only since the invention of the electron microscope (电子显微镜), in the 1930s, that we have known how it works. Structural color is completely different from pigments. Pigments absorb (吸收) light, however, structural color reflects light into special wavelengths. The results are lively, often shining.
Parker has been working for over twenty years on a method to reproduce these nano-structures in a lab, to produce the most amazing nature’s colors. “The brightest colors,” says Parker, are being produced from completely transparent (透明的) materials. He decided to reproduce some colors to prove his idea.
Parker has now found a way to produce large numbers of what he calls “Pure Structural Color”. Deep oranges can remain their advantage in the sun; blues and purples also have their brightness. Parker calls them the brightest colors in the world, and he keeps all the details. In this way, others can not say that the exact method is not found in nature.
Next, Parker hopes to make use of the way butterflies shine gold and silver to make special paints, and to learn from the cuttlefish (墨鱼) how to make objects change colors. Parker sees a future that structural color will be used instead of pigments.
49.What makes people know how structural color works
A.The development of some modern labs. B.The appearance of the electron microscope.
C.The documentary about some birds leathers. D.Tie different backgrounds of structural colour.
50.What is Parker’s purpose according to Paragraph 3
A.To keep his secret in the lab. B.To produce different materials.
C.To make the most amazing colors. D.To find the best method to spread light.
51.From paragraph 4, we can know that ________.
A.the sun plays an important role in our daily life
B.blues and purples are brighter than deep oranges
C.Parker has found the most beautiful color in nature
D.Parker keeps the details of producing structural color
52.How does Parker find the future of structural color
A.Exciting. B.Doubtful. C.Dangerous. D.Hopeful.

What subject do you worry about the most at school Many students worry about math. Some students can’t sleep well the day before a math exam. Others may feel very nervous during the exam itself. But there might be a way to make the subject less stressful.
“For people who are anxious about math, posture (姿势) makes a big difference,” Erik Peper from San Francisco State University told the Daily Mail. That’s right – sitting up straight can help you do better on math exams.
Scientists tested 125 college students. They asked them to do a simple math quiz while sitting in a slumped-over (趴倒的) position, or sitting up straight. After the test, 56 percent of students said the exam was easier to do if they were sitting up straight.
Slumping over is a defensive posture. It can trigger (激发) negative (消极的) memories in the body and brain. This can stop you from thinking clearly, Peper said.
Students who were not nervous about taking the math exam did not necessarily benefit from better posture. But they did find that doing math while slumped over was more difficult, Science Daily reported.
Good posture isn’t just helpful for taking math exams. Athletes, musicians and public speakers can all benefit from better posture. When you feel stressed out, you can also try to sit up straight or stand tall. It can help you feel more positive and focus better.
53. According to the passage, how do some students feel when they face math
A. Cool and calm. B. Sleepy. C. Stressed. D. Relaxed.
54. How many students found it easier to do the math quiz when sitting straight
A. 125. B. 70. C. 56. D. 60.
55. What do we know from the passage
A. Sitting up straight can help people feel better.
B. Good posture is just helpful for taking math exams.
C. Right posture can help students remember faster.
D. Slumping over can sometimes have a good influence.
56. What is the passage mainly about
A. Who usually slumps over. B. The benefits of positive postures.
C. How to relax in an exam. D. A good way to have math tests.

As we walk the “path of life”, we may sometimes wish to be alone with our own thoughts, for quiet moments of reflection(反省)can lead to personal improvement. However, when we want to be alone, we must be careful that we do not always jump into our own world. Social life is also important to all of us.
As we live in social groups, there are many benefits of friendship that we can enjoy. Generally speaking, close friendships have three “fruits”: they may comfort the heart, advise the head and help us achieve the goals we set for ourselves. Through friendship, we can become happier, wiser and more satisfied humans.
The first fruit of friendship is the peace that comes from sharing with friends our joy, sadness, success and failure. Here, friendship has a double advantage—happiness takes on a greater meaning and a trouble shared becomes a trouble halved! Naturally, this kind of openness results from a close friendship. We know that our friends will both respect our feelings and treasure these moments of closeness.
The second fruit of friendship is the better understanding and judgement(评判)that may be achieved through conversations with well-meaning and wise friends. We often find it easier to recognize other people’s weaknesses than our own. As a result, if we are guided only by our own feelings, our judgements might be one-sided. On the other hand, our friends are better able to offer advice on important decisions that we all have to make. This helps make our thoughts clearer and brings us a more thorough(彻底的)understanding of our problems .
The third fruit of friendship is the help that a friend may offer in many different ways. Sometimes a friend is even known as our “second self”. There are so many things in life that can only be achieved with the help of friends. Friends may have many different ideas and skills.
Finally, it should be pointed out that enjoying the company of a crowd is not the same as being with friends. Friends should be carefully chosen and relationships carefully developed. In this way, we can better walk the “path of life” with the comfort, advice and help from our trusted friends.
57. According to the passage, close friendships have a lot of “fruits” EXCEPT ________.
A. making our hearts peaceful B. achieving our goals with friends’ help
C. guiding our own feelings easily D. understanding our problems better
58. We can achieve better understanding by talking with wise friends because ________.
A. it is more difficult to realize other people’s weaknesses than ourselves
B. our judgements won’t be one-sided if we are guided only by our feelings
C. our friends are able to offer better advice on our important decisions
D. it gives us a chance to completely understand our friends’ problems
59. Which shows the best structure of the passage
A. B.
C. D.
60. What is the best title for the passage
A. Walking the Path of Life B. Understanding of Friendship
C. Advice on Making Friends D. Improvements of Social Life
六选五
请认真阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的六个选项中选出五个可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
Parrots are amazing birds. They are mainly green, and some of them have many colors. 61
However, many scientists say that they don’t actually speak and they just repeat what they hear. Some scientists disagree.
A scientist named Irene Pepperberg did years of experiments to prove that parrots are very intelligent and they can actually understand what people are saying. 62 She named the bird Alex. After many experiments, Irene reported that Alex didn’t just repeat what he heard, but in fact, the bird could use words creatively and answer 80% of the simple questions she asked him. 63 Other scientists don’t believe Alex’s achievements. They insist that Alex was just repeating the answers as he was taught to do. In other words, Alex just performed by memorizing rather than using language.
Whatever scientists say, many people like to keep parrots because they can “talk”. 64 Unfortunately, many parrots are being taken from the jungles of Asia and South America to be sold as pets. As a result, the number of wild parrots is reducing every year.
65 They are great to have as pets, but they are better left in the wild.
A.Parrots are smart and beautiful birds.
B.A parrot, just like any other bird, is easy to feed.
C.It is fun to say something and have a parrot repeat it.
D.What’s more, Alex could even understand what he himself said.
E.They are very pretty, but the most amazing thing is that they can talk.
F.She bought a grey African parrot from a pet shop when the bird was about one year old.

七、阅读与回答问题(本题共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下列短文,根据短文内容回答问题,答案不超过10个词。
At seventeen minutes past four in the afternoon, while the passengers were in the main hall taking their lunch, a slight blow was felt on the Scotia (斯科舍号船), on the quarter a little behind the port wheel.
The Scotia had not run into something: something had run into it, and a cutting or sharp object rather than a blunt (不锋利的) one. The blow seemed so slight that nobody on board would have worried but for the shout of the hold-workers who rushed up on to the deck (甲板) .
“We’re sinking (下沉)! We’re sinking!”
At first the passengers were quite afraid but Captain Anderson quickly reassured (宽慰) them. In fact, the danger could not come at once. The Scotia, divided into seven parts, was sure to resist any leak with impunity.
Captain Anderson headed at once for the hold. He noticed that the fifth part had flooded; and the speed of the flooding proved that the hole was a quite big one. Very luckily, the boilers were not in this compartment, for the fires would have gone out at once.
Captain Anderson had the engines stopped at once, while one of the sailors dived to assess the damage (损坏). Shortly afterwards, the existence of a two-metre hole in the hull was confirmed. Such damage could not be repaired and the Scotia, its wheels half underwater, had to continue its journey in the same state. It was 300 miles from Cape Clear, and was three days late when it sailed into the company docks, having greatly worried Liverpool.
The engineers then carried out an inspection (检查) of the Scotia, which was in dry dock.
They couldn’t believe their eyes. Two and a half meters below the water-line appeared a neat hole in the form of an isosceles triangle (等腰三角形). The break in the board was perfectly clean, and could not have been cut with greater precision.
86. Where did the story take place, in the ocean or on land

I believe I can
Good afternoon, everyone! I hope I can be the new English representative.
I think I have some good qualities for this position, and here are some reasons. First, I’m hard-working and helpful. I think I can do anything well if I try my best, and I’m always doing like this. As a result, I’m good at all my subjects, especially English. Besides, I’m willing to help both teachers and my classmates any time. Second, I often spend a lot of time helping with our class projects. I can organize activities well. And you know I’m not only organized but also got first prize in the English speech contest last term.
If I have the chance to be the English representative, I’m sure I’ll do my job well and help to make learning English great fun. I hope you will support me.
Thank you!
