In my early teens, I was once given a film camera as a gift . On receiving it, I jumped on my bike, headed to Wimbledon Common and took photos, just for me: photos of trees and wildlife. I was out all day. On my way home I spotted a tree lit up by street lighting and tried to capture its beauty. Rushing home, I put the spent film in a special little envelope and sent it off to a photography store, desperate to see how it would come out. I took many photos then and loved the fact that when you processed your film you got back colour photos which froze the precious moments, gently encouraging the hobby and the payments for processing.
As I grew into adulthood, that simple, deep happiness gradually faded away. One weekend when I was busy answering the work calls, my eyes caught a box in the corner of the room. I suddenly felt a sense of sadness. The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner. I thought I needed a change.
I took out the camera and dusted it down. It was a great joy that it still worked. I bought new film and took the camera everywhere I went. Now it is always on hand to accompany me on journeys, to allow me time to myself. Even if the day is full and busy, I can seize some moments for myself to take photos, to observe the world around me.
The wall of my room now holds all my camera equipment on display, along with photos I've taken. To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.

A. More fun in the daily routine. B. New journeys in the wild.
C. Better skills of observation. D. Different styles of photography.
7. What is the best title for the text
A. Revisiting Lost Childhood Memories B. Appreciating Beauty Behind the Lens
C. Escaping Teenage Sadness with Camera D. Regaining Pleasure Through Photography
C
A famous American poet Robert Frost once said, “Poetry is what gets lost in translation. ”But XuYuanchong, well-known Chinese translator, had tried to convey the beauty of ancient Chinese poetry throughout his life. His teacher Qian Zhongshu commented on his poetry translation, “You are dancing while chained by rhyme and rhythm, but the dance shows amazing freedom and beauty, which is quite impressive.”
Since 1978 Xu had published more than 100 translated works in Chinese, English and French, reaching millions of readers at home and abroad. Most notably, he translated Chinese poems into rhymed verses in both English and French. He was also the first Asian winner of the Aurora Borealis Prize for Outstanding Translation of Fiction Literature.
Xu was known to be very fastidious in his work. For him, English is a “ scientific” language that needs exactness while Chinese is an “artistic” language that includes a wider range of content. Following this principle, Xu kept not only faithfulness in the sense but beauty in sensibility in his translation.
Through Xu’s translations, time-honored Chinese wisdom has made an impact on Western societies and the world. For example, when former US president Barack Obama tried to begin a healthcare project during his presidency, some senators disagreed at first. But after reading the poem titled Fishing in Snow translated by Xu, one senator was so impressed with the fisherman’s independent thinking that he chose to part with the party line to support Obama.
Having made such great achievements, Xu maintained a routine. Every day he translated about1, 000 words, working till 3 to 4 a. m., sleeping for about 3 hours and getting up at 6 a. m. to continue.“ Translation is a means of communicating with the writer’s soul. A sudden flicker of a good word or a good line thrills every pore (毛孔) and every inch of my skin,” Xu said.
8. What does the text tell us about Xu Yuanchong
A. He mastered at least three foreign languages.
B. He translated about 100 Chinese works into English.
C. He was the first winner of the Aurora Borcalis Prize.
D. He was widely known for his translated rhymed verses.
9. What does the underlined word “fastidious” in Paragraph 3 mean
A. Particular. B. Satisfied. C. Inventive. D. Productive.
10. Why does the author give the example in Paragraph 4
A. To recommend Xu’s translation works. B. To stress the charm of Chinese poetry.
C. To show Xu’s great translation skills. D. To prove the wisdom of the ancient Chinese.
11. Which of the following words can best describe Xu
A. Thoughtful and modest. B. Generous and objective
C. Creative and open-minded. D. Devoted and hard-working.
D
“Is the glass half empty or half full ” This old English saying has long been used to tell a pessimist from an optimist. For most young people today, the answer is usually “half full”, because we have been taught that a positive attitude towards life is one of the primary keys to success.
However, is this necessarily a good thing Recent studies indicate that it all depends. There is such a thing as too much positivity. It happens when someone remains in a happy and positive state and ignores any bad and negative emotions across all situations. But as a matter of fact, it is normal for us to experience any emotions. The death of a pet or loved one, a low score on a test, or a mountain of new homework should lead to emotions such as sadness, frustration and anger. If we hide these emotions just because we want to look optimistic in front of our friends and family, they can build up inside of us and end up erupting in unexpected ways. There is new evidence to suggest that many of these overly positive people are at a risk of developing drug or alcohol addictions as well as other psychological problems.
Aside from the personal emotional impacts, this attitude can also have a negative effect on the people around you. Imagine having had a bad day, and wanting to talk about it with your friend. However, instead of listening to your problems and sympathizing with you, they simply told you to “be positive” and give you the impression that your problems are being completely ignored. Just take everything as it comes and express how you really feel. This makes you human, and your true friends will always stick by you.
So my simple advice to you is to do what gives you the best “attitude” in life, whatever for you that might be. Regardless of whether a glass is half-empty or half-full, it nonetheless still has space to fill.
12. Why does the writer mention the glass at the beginning of the text
A. To give some evidence. B. To introduce the topic.
C. To present an argument. D. To explain his ideas.
13. What is the writer’s attitude to the person who remains positive across all situations
A. Negative. B. Supportive. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear.
14. What is the main idea of paragraph 3
A. The cause of overly positivity.
B. The prevention of overly positivity.
C. The bad effect of overly positivity on others.
D. The bad impacts of overly positivity on personal emotion.
15. Which of the following may the writer agree with
A. Positivity is the key to success.
B. We needn’t stay positive all the time.
C. There isn’t such a thing as overly positive.
D. Positivity always does a harm effect to our lives.

Writing was my passion. I had always been the best writer in my class. But then, the balance of my little universe shifted — Ethan transferred (转学) to our school.
Ethan was quiet. He seemed lost in his own world, and the other students didn’t know how to approach him. He was often alone, and it was clear that he felt out of place. I didn’t pay much attention at first. But then came the day that changed everything.
It was a writing class like any other, until our teacher assigned us a creative essay. I dove into my work, confident as always. When it was time to share, I listened politely as my classmates read their essays, but my mind was already racing ahead to the praise I knew would come my way. Then, Ethan’s turn arrived. He stood up, his voice soft but steady, and began to read. His words painted a picture of an old, forgotten library, where time stood still and the pages of ancient books whispered stories of forgotten worlds.
When he finished, the room fell silent. Then, thunderous applause spread across the class. Our teacher’s eyes shone with delight. “Ethan,” she said, “you have a rare gift. With your talent, you’re bound to win the upcoming writing competition.”
The words hung in the air like a challenge. I had always been the star of our literary world, but now, it seemed, a new light had appeared — one that threatened to outshine mine.
That evening, I had a talk with my father. When I finished, he sighed softly and said, “Jealousy is a thief that steals our joy. It’s easy to see Ethan as a rival (对手) , but perhaps he’s just a fellow traveler on the same journey. Instead of pushing him away, why not reach out You might discover that his light doesn’t dim (使黯淡) yours — it only makes the world brighter.” At that moment, I seemed to realize something.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The next day, I approached Ethan during lunch.

2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The next day, I approached Ethan during lunch.

From that day forward, Ethan and I met regularly to write and discuss our work.

【答案】 The next day, I approached Ethan during lunch. I took a deep breath and walked towards the table where he sat alone, his nose buried in a book. “Hi, Ethan,” I said, trying to sound casual. “I really loved your essay in class. It was amazing.” He looked up, surprise flashing across his face. A small smile played on his lips as he thanked me. I then invited him to join me in preparing for the upcoming writing competition. To my relief, he agreed.
From that day forward, Ethan and I met regularly to write and discuss our work. We shared our ideas, gave each other honest feedback, and encouraged one another. His unique perspective broadened my horizons, and I found my own writing improving. When the day of the competition arrived, we walked in side by side, full of confidence. In the end, we both won awards. It was a moment of pure joy. Father was right: Ethan’s light didn’t dim mine — actually, it made mine shine brighter.
