A
(2025·辽宁点石联考高三期中) I don't recall exactly when air travel became depressing. From frequently canceled flights and endless fees, to narrow seating and absent food service, I find the experience upsetting.
On one such recent flight, I had a short stay at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina. Like most airports, it housed a mad rush of travelers. But there was an inviting shine: Around the crowded hall the airport had placed a long row of rocking chairs. With two hours until my connecting flight, I immediately claimed one, seated myself, and began to gently rock as I observed the passing scene. I appreciated that I had been gifted an oasis (乐土) of calm among the chaos.
And then, as if the rockers weren't enough, the second act: There was a grand piano on the other side of the hall. An older man appeared, sat down, and began to play. His touch was so loving, so invested with feeling, that I no longer felt that I was in an airport. Rather, the pianist and I were now in the oasis together. I no longer heard the noise of the crowd, but only the beautiful pieces of music.
But the benefit of the man's music went beyond the lifting of my spirits. There was something larger and more magical at work. As soon as the music began, the entire tone of the airport changed. People began to walk more slowly. Many paused to regard the pianist. A man put down his bags, placed his hands on his hips, and began to dance to the music. Now, at last, we were all in this together. I rocked, the man danced, the pianist played, and the rapid pace of the crowd slowed to something like a walk in a familiar neighborhood.
My two-hour stay passed all too quickly, but the pianist played on. For a moment I dithered,__wondering whether I should choose between my flight and more music, more rocking. But I had family waiting for me back in Maine. This flight was a pleasure or an adventure.
1.Why did the author have to stay at Charlotte Douglas International Airport?( )
A.To change planes.
B.To enjoy rocking chairs.
C.To experience the oasis of calm.
D.To watch floods of travelers.
答案:A
根据文章第二段中“On one such recent flight, I had a short stay at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina.”和“With two hours until my connecting flight, I immediately claimed one, seated myself, and began to gently rock as I observed the passing scene.” 故选A。
2.What can we infer about the author from Paragraph 3?( )
A.He played several pieces of music.
B.He was absorbed in the piano music.
C.He shared his pleasure with the man.
D.He narrowly missed his flight.
3.What is the main idea of Paragraph 4?( )
A.Music kept the author's spirits up.
B.Many passengers put off their flights.
C.Many passengers danced to the music.
D.Music changed the atmosphere of the airport.
4.What does the underlined word “dithered” probably mean in the last paragraph?( )
A.Hesitated. B.Concluded. C.Insisted. D.Appreciated.
答案:A
根据下文“wondering whether I should choose between my flight and more music, more rocking”可知,作者正在决定是否登机,也就是说作者在犹豫,所以“dithered”在这里的意思是“犹豫的(Hesitated)”。故选A。
B
(2025·太原高三年级模拟考试) In an increasingly fast-paced world that rewards immediacy, urgency culture makes it hard to tell what is truly important and what is not. At work, this could involve handling frequent last-minute requests, unrealistic deadlines, and the expectation to be reachable even after hours. In personal life, behaviour patterns of urgency culture include overextending in relationships, frequently checking social media updates out of fear of missing out,and responding immediately to calls and texts, even when it's inconvenient.
The constant rush to be “always on” professionally and personally can create stress. Being part of the “always on” culture often involves multitasking. However, research shows every time we multitask,it actually slows the brain down and may reduce productivity by up to 40 percent. Meanwhile, constant overstimulation—a significant contributor to urgency culture—will debilitate your dopamine (多巴胺) system. In short, the more overstimulated you are,the less joy you can feel. Over time, urgency culture can also be harmful to physical health.
A false sense of urgency tricks the body into reacting as if it's in a threatening situation, activating the “fight-or-flight” response. Your breathing becomes faster, your blood pressure and heart rate go up,and you lose the ability to regulate emotions, and an overactive fight-or-flight response contributes to high blood pressure, poor quality of sleep and eating disorders.
To avoid the urgency trap, experts recommend pausing for a few moments before leaping into action every time something comes up. It allows you to step back and assess whether this demand for your attention is in line with your priorities. Setting clear expectations in personal and professional relationships can also help plan, prioritize and problem-solve without causing false urgency. The best thing you can do to deal with urgency culture is to regularly engage in activities that remind you there is no rush.
5.Which of the following can be described as “urgency culture” according to Paragraph 1 ( )
A.Focusing on important matters.
B.Finishing work before the deadline.
C.Giving everything high priority.
D.Maintaining useful relationships.
6.How does multitasking influence people according to the author ( )
A.It contributes to their work efficiency.
B.It may make people feel constant pressure.
C.It helps to slow down their working pace.
D.It will decrease their sense of achievement.
根据第二段前两句“The constant rush to be ‘always on’ ...often involves multitasking.”
7.What does the underlined word “debilitate” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?( )
A.Weaken. B.Balance. C.Activate. D.Divide.
答案:A
根据画线词后一句“In short, the more overstimulated you are,the less joy you can feel.” 故选A。
8.Which of the following can be the best title of the text?( )
A.The Power of Rush:The Secret to Modern Success
B.Stay Well-connected:The New Path to Personal Productivity
C.No Pressure,No Growth:Boosting Yourself in Urgency Culture
D.More Haste,Less Speed:Breaking Free From the “Always-on” Trap
C
(2025·四川绵阳高三一诊) The author of The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan, makes a glorious success of writing this non-fiction. The Backyard Bird Chronicles tightens the focus in describing and drawing a variety of birds that visit her yard in California. The book consists of journal entries from 2017 through 2022 that describe her observations of the behavior of golden crowned sparrows, Anna's hummingbirds and other birds, with her drawings of them. The entire package is fascinating, all the more so because Tan fills the pages with questions about what she is seeing.
One day, from inside her house, Tan noticed a finch flying back and forth just outside the glass door, while looking directly at her. One feeder was full of seeds, and the bird sat there but did not eat. Another feeder nearby, devoted to highly favored sunflower seeds, was empty. “Could this bird possibly be signaling that I should refill its favorite feeder?” Tan wondered. She did refill it, and the finch “immediately went to the feeder and ate and ate and ate.”
When she began this project, Tan could recognize precisely three birds in her yard. Now, the count is 63 species. As a bird lover and observer, I deeply share her joy at this__learning__curve:__In 2023, I counted 43 bird species in our little patch of land in southeastern Virginia.
Tan's playful humor mixes with complete anthropomorphism (拟人) at times: “I want tourist junk food!” declares a baby crow (乌鸦) she has drawn. This playful tone only brings extra warmth to a beautifully written and illustrated volume. This book offers reflections on ways that watching birds can renew our joy in nature, and maybe even transform our lives.
9.What form is the book The Backyard Bird Chronicles written in?( )
A.Diaries. B.Novels. C.Poems. D.Questionnaires.
答案:A
根据第一段中的“The book consists of journal entries from 2017 through 2022 that describe her observations of the behavior of golden crowned sparrows, Anna's hummingbirds and other birds, with her drawings of them.” 故选A。
10.Why does the author mention Tan's observation of a finch?( )
A.To praise Tan's writing ability.
B.To urge the protection of the bird.
C.To stress the bird's preference.
D.To show Tan's curiosity about birds.
11.What does the underlined phrase “this learning curve” in Paragraph 3 refer to?( )
A.The approach Tan adopted to study bird species.
B.The progress Tan made in identifying bird species.
C.The joy shared by Tan and the author in bird counting.
D.The contrast between Tan and the author in bird counting.
根据第三段中的“When she began this project, Tan could recognize precisely three birds in her yard. Now, the count is 63 species.”可知,谭恩美在自家院子里识别的鸟从3种慢慢上升到63种,再结合画线词所在句“As a bird lover and observer, I deeply share her joy at this learning curve: In 2023, I counted 43 bird species in our little patch of land in southeastern Virginia.”
12.What does the author think of Tan's book?( )
A.Pleasant and direct. B.Fresh and beautiful.
C.Warm and humorous. D.Glorious and precise.
根据最后一段中的“Tan's playful humor mixes with complete anthropomorphism at times”和“This playful tone only brings extra warmth to a beautifully written and illustrated volume.”
(2025·广州普通高中高三冲刺训练题) For most of history, people lived in small groups of up to 150 people. Then villages and small towns developed, offering safety and support through the sharing of resources. As time passed, urban living brought additional advantages such as better jobs, schools and healthcare. Larger towns also gave people more chances to meet and interact. This is important. 1(____)
Today, over half of the world's population currently lives in towns and cities. But this has resulted in a strange paradox (悖论). Although social opportunities are one reason people choose to live in large cities, research suggests that city life can be lonely. 2(____) People from all over the world can join online communities and make virtual friends without leaving their home.
The development of virtual communities can be traced back to the 1860s. Back then, telegraph operators exchanged messages and gradually formed friendships over long distances. 3(____)
