(1) both 作形容词， 意为“两者都……”，可作定语修饰名词。例如：
Both my parents are teachers.

(2)both 作代词， 可以作主语、宾语、同位语。both 作主语时， 谓语动词用复数形式。例如：
Both are 12 years old.(作主语)
两个人都是12岁。
You can buy both.(作宾语)

They both like Chinese food.(作同位语)
他们两个都喜欢中国食物。
【拓展】
both 还可以和of连用， “both of ＋ 复数名词/复数代词宾格”意为“两者都”， 作主语时， 谓语动词用复数形式。例如：
Both of us can play ping pong.
我们两人都会打乒乓球。

(1)a lot作状语， 通常用于修饰动词， 意为“非常；经常”。表示“非常”时， a lot与very much同义。例如：
My grandpa likes small animals a lot/very much. 我爷爷非常喜欢小动物。
(2)a lot还可以作宾语， 意为“很多； 许多”。例如：
I can learn a lot about Chinese history.
我可以学到很多有关中国历史方面的知识。

　语法详解
一般现在时中的系动词be
1. 系动词be的形式
在一般现在时中， 系动词be有三种形式： am、is、are。它们用来表示人或事物的性质、状态等， 意为“是”， 但在中文中有时不译出。例如：
I'm fine. 我很好。
2. 系动词be的用法
(1)不同人称代词作主语， 需用不同形式的系动词be。
主语 be 例句
I am I'm sorry. 我很抱歉。
he/ she/ it is He's from the UK. 他来自英国。 She's a teacher. 她是一位老师。 It's a big farm. 它是一个大农场。
you/ we/ they are You're late. 你迟到了。 We're classmates. 我们是同班同学。 They're in Grade 7. 他们在七年级。
(2) 含有系动词be的各种句型。
含有系动词be的一般现在时的一般疑问句，是把系动词be提到句首， 句末用问号；否定句是在系动词be后直接加not(可以用缩略形式)，其变化形式如下：
