(A)
Student Name: Wang Lingling
Topic of Research: The Dragon Boat Festival Around the World
The Dragon Boat Festival has spread to many countries, including Vietnam (越
南), Japan and South Korea. It is celebrated in different ways in these three countries.

A. ① Vietnam; ② Japan; ③ South Korea.
B. ① Vietnam; ② South Korea; ③ Japan.
C. ① Japan; ② South Korea; ③ Vietnam.
D. ① Japan; ② Vietnam; ③ South Korea.
(B)
Country: Vietnam
Name: Worm-Killing Festival (杀虫节)
Date: the fifth day of the fifth lunar month
Like us, people in Vietnam also eat zongzi and give offerings to their ancestors
(祖先). In some areas of the country, the zongzi is shaped like a long tube (管子).
Besides, people eat sour fruits and other foods to try to kill the worm in their bodies.
I was born in Nassib, a small village in Syria (叙利亚). My parents and I lived a
simple life. This peaceful life, however, didn’t last long.
Country: Japan
Name: Children’s Day
Date: May 5th
When I was six years old, a war broke out, turning our world upside down. I
could no longer play with my friends, and I felt scared every day. Finally, my family
decided to leave.
When the Dragon Boat Festival first spread to Japan, it was celebrated on the
fifth day of the fifth lunar month. People also ate zongzi. The adults drank calamus
wine, too. In Japanese, the word for “calamus” sounds like a word that means “value
strength”. For this reason, the festival became a festival for boys. Later, the date was
changed to May 5th. In 1948, the festival became Children’s Day. On this day,
families fly fish-shaped windsocks to wish their kids strong growth.
Country: South Korea Name: Dano Festival
It was 2012. As we packed up, I took one last look at our house, hoping we
would return after a few months.
We moved to Jordan (约旦). It was much bigger than Nassib. Everything felt
strange. At school, I felt lonely because I didn’t know anyone. I cried a lot.
After finishing fourth grade, I had some friends. School was fun again. But just
as things were looking up, we had to move again. As refugees (难民), my parents
couldn’t work in Jordan. We applied to move to Canada, and we were accepted.
I was sad to leave my friends, but I was also excited— I knew I’d be flying for
the first time and seeing the world from above.
Date: the fifth day of the fifth lunar month
The Dano Festival has become a very different festival from the Dragon Boat
Festival. In some parts of South Korea, the festival is celebrated for up to a month.
People pray (祈求) for health and happiness. They also hold colorful activities. Some
popular ones include folk dances and wrestling (摔跤).
When the plane took off, it was nighttime. I looked down and saw the city lights
below shining in the darkness. It was a beautiful sight. When we landed, it was
snowing. I knew I had a lot to learn again. I had to pick up a new language since I
only spoke Arabic. I also had to get used to colder weather and different customs.
But this time, I didn’t feel scared.

finished, the announcer called out, “Unbelievable!” Ms. Grabow was very tired, but
she was also pleased. “I am so happy and thankful that I can still race in this sport at
my age,” she said. And she’s planning on running at least two half-Ironman races in
