What happens to all the the leaves that fall from trees in the autumn and winter They fly into gardens and rivers, they're taken by the wind to new places, or they 're put in the trash.
But some become art, thanks to a Japanese artist known as Lito.
He has won fans from around the world with his intricate designs made from leaves, which have many small parts or details that all work or fit together. There's a frog holding an umbrella, fish swimming in an aquarium, and a leaf he created after mking inspiration from the famous painting The Great Earve Off Kanagawa.
Lito first puts a special chemical on the leaves. Then he draws his very, very small images on the leaf with a pen and carefully cuts them out using a knife. It's slow, difficult work, and Lito often does it at night. One leaf design can take eight hours to finish. “I would rather finish it in one go when I am focused," the 38-year-old said.
The work has also helped him to manage his ADHD(多动症). He said he found school life difficult and it was only when he was 30 that he was told by doctors that he has ADHD. He felt that this diagnosis (诊断)explained why he had always done things differently.
Lito posts his designs on social media almost every day, something he has been doing since 2020.As well as becoming popular on social media, he has published books on his leaf-cutting work and often holds exhibitions in Japan.

Experts say there are a lot of mental health benefits to having good friendships, especially as we get older. And a recent study agrees that having strong friendships can improve both our mental and physical health. However, the study adds that there are downsides to these friendships too! Let's start with the good news.
Researchers looked at data from almost 13,000 adults over the age of 50 in the US. These people were asked about their friendships, including the number of friends they had and how often they communicated with them. Their mental and physical health was also studied.
The results showed that having good friends was associated (有关的) with a 9% increase in the likelihood that people would exercise, and a 17% reduced risk of depression (抑郁症). Strong friendships were also linked to a 19% reduced risk of having a stroke.
A psychology professor from Brigham Young University, Julianne Holt-Lunstad-who wasn't involved in the study-said it makes sense that friendships can have these positive effects. She said that people who have stronger friendships may have more of a sense of meaning and purpose in their life.
She added, “That can lead them to take better care of themselves and take less risk, because they have people who depend on them, or are encouraging them and looking out for them.”___▲__
Having strong friendships was also associated with increased likelihood of smoking and heavy drinking. But that didn't mean these people were living shorter lives一 in fact, they still often lived longer than people who didn't have strong friendships.
The researchers said perhaps these people can get away with drinking a bit of alcohol because of the other positive health effects they get from their friendship groups.

A long, long time ago-about 66 million years ago-a huge space rock hit the earth. It caused the deaths of many life forms, including dinosaurs. But this rock wasn't the biggest one to ever hit the earth. Scientists just discovered that one meteorite (陨石) up to 200 times bigger hit the planet 3.26 billion years ago.
Surprisingly, that event was helpful for the early development of life. The meteorite acted like a “big fertilizer(肥料) bomb". When it hit the earth, it spread nutrients(营养) such as phosphorus(磷) and iron into the environment. These nutrients helped tiny organisms, like bacteria, continue to live and grow.
Scientists studied ancient rocks inSouth Africa to learn about this event. They found that life recovered quickly once conditions returned to normal. “Life didn't just surviveit actually grew stronger," said Nadja Drabon of Harvard University, a scientist who led the study.
The earth was very different 3.26 billion years ago. It was covered in oceans, with almost no oxygen in the air and water. Animals and plants didn't exist yet. Instead, microbes(微生物) ruled the planet.
The ancient meteorite was huge--about 37 to 58 kilometers wide. That's 50 to 200 times larger than the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs. When it hit the earth, a thick dust storm circled the world and turned the sky black within hours. The crash had a big effect on the ocean and created a lot of heat, possibly boiling the upper part of the oceans.
Even though the meteorite caused so much damage, life found a way to recover. It took years for the dust to settle and for the atmosphere to cool. Ocean waves also mixed iron-rich deep waters into shallower waters, creating a good environment for microbes. Iron provides microbes with an energy source.
This event shows how even big disasters can create new possibilities for life. As Drabon says, “Even in destruction, life can find a way to begin again."
( )56.What happened about 66 million years ago
A.The oceans started to boil. B.A new kind of dinosaur appeared.
C.The earth became full of plants and animals. D.A big meteorite hit the earth and killed dinosaurs.
( )57.What does the writer say about the ancient meteorite
A.It made the earth completely lifeless. B.It stopped all the life on the planet.
C.lt helped tiny organisms grow. D.It created new oceans on the earth.
( )58.What is the main idea of Paragraph3
A.The great size of the ancient meteorite. B.The way scientists studied the meteorite event.
C. The life forms that appeared after the hit. D.The dangers that large meteorite brought.
( )59.What does the underlined word“destruction”mean in Paragraph 7
A.生长 B.毁灭 C.改善 D.起源
( )60.What is the passage mainly about
A. The biggest meteorite in our history. B.The reason why life began on the earth.
