V. Reading comprehension (阅读理解)
A. Choose the best answer (根据以下内容,选出最恰当的答案)(10 分)
You’ve probably heard this advice: drink eight glasses of water every day. Well, I’m sorry to say
it’s not true. This idea won’t make your skin look bright, help you think better, or give you more
energy.
There’s a lot of wrong information about this. It’s surprising how many people believe it—you
hear it on TV and read it in articles. But it’s not correct. Most of the time, your body will tell you
when you need water. Why Because you have great kidneys (肾) that don’t get enough praise!
Kidneys are two organs in your body. Their job is to clean your blood and remove waste.
Every day, all the blood in your body flows through your kidneys. Many things influence your
body, such as what you eat and drink, the outside temperature, and how much you exercise. If the
amount of any substance in your body becomes too high or too low, it can be harmful to you. Luckily,
kidneys work hard to keep these substances balanced.
So, if you don’t need eight glasses a day, how much water should you drink The answer is
simple: there’s no fixed number. Just drink when you feel thirsty. You can trust your body. Unless
you have kidney stones or you’re an old person, you don’t need to check how much water you drink
all the time.
Here’s something people often forget: almost everything you eat or drink has water. Your
morning coffee has water, and your breakfast does too. Snacks like apples, oranges, or a glass of
juice are also full of water. So, as long as you pay attention to your thirst, you don’t have to count
those eight glasses at all!

ChatGPT: Surprising Truths About How AI Chatbots Actually Work
Tech AI chatbots have already become 38 in people’s lives, but how many people
really know how they work Some of the most surprising information about AI chatbots can
help us understand how they work. Here are two key things you should know:
1. They are trained by human responses
AI chatbots all need different training steps, beginning with pre-training. This allows them
to 39 a general understanding of language. If asked: “How to cheat others ” in the pre-
training phase, an AI might give you detailed steps. While as cheating others are not 40 ,
human trainers can help guide AI to proper responses. After that, an AI chatbot might answer
something like: “I’m sorry, but I can't 41 that information. If you have trouble, I suggest
you face it bravely and treat others 42 instead of cheating others, I’m sure you can find
your best way to solve it.”
2. Their knowledge should be 43 every day
AI chatbots can’t update their own knowledge, so they may be confused with recent events,
new technology or anything after their knowledge cut-off. A knowledge cut-off refers to the last
point in time when an AI chatbot’s training data was updated, meaning it doesn’t have
awareness of events 44 that date. Updating AI chatbots costs a lot and is very important.
But how to update their knowledge well is still a problem that scientists haven’t solved yet.
With these facts in mind, we can make better use of AI in our life.

Scientists Create World’s Tiniest Violin
Scientists from the UK have created “the world’s
smallest violin”. The violin is so tiny that it can only be seen
with a powerful microscope. The researchers wondered if
they could use a new kind of nanotechnology(纳米技术)
to test the limits of how small a violin could actually be
created.
The tiny violin, made of a metal called platinum,
measures just 35 microns long and 13 microns wide. A
micron is one millionth of a meter. This means that the violin is even thinner than a human hair.
The “nano-violin” wasn’t designed to be played. So what was the point Physics professor
Kelly Morrison, who led the project, says that “At first, we were just curious about how small
a violin could be,” but the work they finally did is actually very important and creative for their
research. In recent decades, computers and other technology have become faster as the parts
inside of devices have become smaller. Building and studying extremely small things will help
the scientists develop and test new ideas and materials for making things even smaller.
The whole process of making the violin took about three hours. But it took the researchers
several months to develop the methods they used to create it.
Now that they’ve made the nano-violin, the researchers plan to use their system to study
more serious things. For example, they’re looking at new ways to store information, and how
to use heat to make computers work faster and use less energy.
Task1: Answer the questions.
45. How can the tiny violin be seen

49. What do the researchers plan to do after they’ve made the nano-violin

Task2:
50. Tiny things like nanobots(纳米机器人) are very useful in our daily life. What can we use
nanobots to do Write about 30 words to explain.
