infinitive of purpose:
... + to / in order to / so as to do sth.
动词不定式作目的状语
动词不定式在句中作目的状语,表示行为动作的目的。
e.g. The WWF is working hard to save all the animals.
世界自然基金会正在努力挽救所有的动物。
She practises every day to improve her singing skills.
她每天都在练习以提高自己的歌唱技巧。
动词不定式表示“做某事是为了什么”。
作目的状语时,不定式既可以放在句首,也可以放在句尾。
e.g. Dylan trained hard to improve his basketball skills.
Dylan刻苦训练以提高自己的篮球技术。
= To improve his basketball skills, Dylan trained hard.
To understand the local culture better, she decided to live
with a host family.
除了直接使用 to do sth. 之外,我们还可以使用
in order to do sth. 和 so as to do sth. 来表示行为动作的目的。需要注意的是,so as to 引导的不定式短语不位于句首。
e.g. He's saving money in order to buy a new computer.
为了买一台新电脑,他正在攒钱。
Linda started work early so as to finish it by five.
Linda很早就开始工作,以便在五点前完成。
其否定形式:in order not to do sth. /so as not to do sth.
e.g. In order not to forget the address, I wrote it down.
为了不忘记这个地址,我把它写了下来。
Sarah went in quietly so as not to wake the baby.
Sarah悄悄地走了进去,以免吵醒婴儿。

1) pick up 捡起,拾起
pick up 是“动词+副词”结构,名词作宾语时,放在up前后均可;代词作宾语时,只能放在pick与up中间。
