There is an old Italian tradition called “suspended (待用)coffee”. There, you pay for two cups of coffee but only take one, so that someone can go into the cafe and enjoy the other coffee for free. This way, no-money people can still enjoy coffee.
Now, this model is catching on in China. It is “suspended fast food. ” Many people think it's a great way to help someone who is more disadvantaged (劣势的) than us. On the other hand, some people don't think it's a good idea. They don't know if these people taking the meals are really in need of help or just out for a free lunch. Also, how do we know the restaurant owners won't just pocket (隐藏) the money and give out (分发) the food
This is really a trust issue. In fact, it's sometimes difficult to decide if we should give a beggar (乞丐) on the street a little money. Maybe they really need our help; it's also possible that they aren’t really homeless but just don't want to work.
But all in all, hopefully we can trust those enough to do the right thing.

Happy Rain on a Spring Night
Good rain knows its time right;
It will fall when comes spring.
With wind it steals in night;
Mute, it moistens each thing.
O’er wild lanes dark cloud spreads;
In boat a lantern looms.
Dawn sees saturated reds;
The town’s heavy with blooms.
—Translated by Xu Yuanchong
This famous poem, was written by Du Fu (712-770, Tang Dynasty) when he was living in Chengdu. Sometimes, he went to farm in the field. The poem shows his care for farmers.
The very first word, “Good”, shows Du’s joy and love for the spring rain. The rain is good because it “knows” the right time to come. Here Du uses personification (拟人), as if the rains were smart enough to come in time for the farmer’s busy season.
The rain comes during the night without making any noise. Unlike the summer storms, the quiet spring rain finishes its task without being known.
Next, Du describes a peaceful scene to us. In the night sky, the clouds look dark and heavy. It’s a sign that there will be enough rain during the night. The light from the riverboat makes the dark scene a bit livelier.
Finally, he thinks, the city of Chengdu will become beautiful when all of the flowers bloom after the rain.

Chinese has a history of thousands of years. But Pinyin doesn't. It tells people how to pronounce(发音) Chinese words. This year, Pinyin turns 62 years old.
In 1958, Chinese linguist(语言学家) Zhou Youguang and his team made Pinyin. Before that, Chinese people used many other ways to show how to pronounce Chinese words. But these ways are not as easy to use as Pinyin. Because of Pinyin, more people learn how to read.
Pinyin is a big part of our daily life. We learn to speak Putonghua with the help of Pinyin. We write Chinese characters on computers by using Pinyin.
Pinyin is young. But it is now very popular outside China. It is becoming a bridge between China and the world. Many people around the world start to learn Chinese by learning Pinyin. You might say “nihao” to mean “hello” to a foreign friend.
People are using Pinyin more often than before. For example, fewer foreigners use “dumplings”. They like to use “jiaozi”. And “mantou” is for “steamed-bun”. The Oxford English Dictionary(《牛津英语词典》) has more than 100 Chinese words in Pinyin, such as zhongguomeng for “Chinese dream”, and wanggou for “online shopping”.

I remember the green coat in my fifth and sixth grades.
When I needed a new jacket,my mother asked what kind I wanted. I told her about my ideal one. She listened long. I thought she understood for sure the kind I wanted.
The next day when I got home from school,I found,on my bed,a jacket which was not what I wanted. I went to the jacket slowly,as if it were a stranger.
From the kitchen Mother shouted that my jacket was in the wardrobe (衣柜).I rushed and pulled at the clothes in the wardrobe,hoping the jacket on the bed wasn't for me but my brother. No luck. I wanted to cry because it was so ugly and so big. But I knew I'd have to wear it a long time before I'd have a new one. I looked at the jacket,like an enemy (敌人),thinking bad things before I took off my old and small jacket.
I put the big jacket on. I stood in front of the mirror (镜子),turning right and left. I looked ugly. I threw it on my brother's bed and looked at it for a long time before I put it on and went out,smiling a "thank you" to my mom.
The next day I wore it to school. At the morning break,my best friend,Steve,looked at me for a long time. The girls turned away to whisper. The teachers looked my way and talked about how foolish I looked in my new jacket. When it was time for the whole school to get together on the playground, ▲ .They didn't say out loud ,"Man ,that's ugly!" But I heard their talk and even laughter.
And so I went,in my jacket. So embarrassed (尴尬的),so hurt ,I couldn't even do my lessons the rest of the day. I received "C" s on tests.
I wore that thing for three years. All in those years no love came to me.
I blamed (指责) that jacket for those bad years. I blamed my mother for her bad taste and her cheap ways. It was a sad time for the heart. Anyway,I spent my sixth ﹣ grade year looking forward to something good to happen to me.
And it was about that time I began to grow,still in that ugly green jacket. It had become my brother who went along wherever I went.

"I hate school and I'm not going back!" Do you feel this way?Lots of kids do. Usually this feeling doesn't last long. But what happens if you feel this way too much?School is a fact of life and getting an education(教育) can help you build the kind of future life you want. So let's talk about school and what to do when you don't like it .
If you don't like school,the first step is to find out why. You might not like school because you don't have enough friends,or maybe you don't get along with your teachers. Sometimes it's a big problem with your classes and schoolwork. Maybe the work is too easy and you get bored,or maybe the work is too hard,or you don't feel as smart as other kids. You may be falling behind(落后),and it may seem like you will never catch up.
When you know why you don't like school,you can start taking steps to make things better. It's a good idea to talk to your parents and teachers about your problems with school. If you have difficulties with your schoolwork,you need special help from your teachers. Try not to let the problems go on too long. It's easier to catch up on one unit than the whole book! Another good idea is to write down your feelings about school in your diary. It's a great way to let out bad feelings,and you don't have to share what you've written with others.
