Zheng Xiaohui is a Chinese student in Milan, Italy. To spread traditional Chinese culture to the world, she has given lots of erhu shows on the street. Zheng has been playing the erhu since she was 9, and she has won prizes in many music competitions. Her fingers move nimbly (灵敏地) on the strings, making the erhu sing like a bird. Zheng arrived in Italy in 2021. Since April 2023, she has been performing on the street during her free time. And now she does three or four street shows a month, usually in busy squares where many people pass by.
At first, Zheng did not plan to perform on the street. But after watching a video of a violinist’s street performance, she changed her mind. She thought, “Why can’t erhu, a traditional Chinese instrument (乐器), bring happiness to people here ” Thinking back to her first street performance, she said she was worried at the time. But the enthusiastic ( 热情的) response from the audience cheered her up. “When I played Goodbye, My Friend, a grandfather started to dance. Many people in the audience followed him. Even I could not help dancing along with them,” Zheng said. Some people took photos of her, and others asked about the erhu with curiosity (好奇).
Zheng says she wants to show the beauty of Chinese erhu to the world. “I believe that Chinese music has built a bridge for cultural communication,” she says. Talking about the future, Zheng looks forward to it. She says whatever she does and wherever she lives, she will bring her erhu with her. “I hope to hold my own special concert in the future to make more people learn about Chinese folk music,” she says. Zheng Xiaohui hopes she can help preserve the beauty of traditional Chinese music.

A new study found that 52 of the most common species (物种) of birds in the USA have shrunk in size in the past 38 years. Scientists say this is because of climate(气候) change.
This shrinking in size follows a rule called Bergmann’s rule. The rule says that animals in cooler areas are usually larger than those in warmer areas. Larger animals are able to keep warmer. That is the reason why animals in cold areas are larger.
As global warming affects (影响) the planet, animals now have to deal with rising temperatures. Some of them shrink in size. Scientists studied over 70,000 species of birds. They discovered that some birds in North America were shrinking in size. Studies on deer, insects and fish also show similar facts.
What does this mean for these species Global warming is happening faster than ever before. So, animals may not be able to change fast enough. And when species shrink, other things get different. When an animal’s body shrinks, it may not be able to give birth to as many young as before—this may affect the size of a species’ population.
It is possible that scientists haven’t yet completely understood how changes in size may affect the ability of animals to be alive. This shows the bigger problem with climate change—we aren’t always able to predict what will happen when the earth’s temperatures keep rising. And that is the real danger.
52. The underlined word “shrunk” in this passage means ________.
A.become smaller B.disappeared C.increased D.grown
53. Why are animals in cold areas larger than those in warmer areas
A.Because they eat more food. B.Because they sleep longer.
C.Because they can keep warmer. D.Because they need to be faster.
54. If a species’ body gets smaller, ________.
A.the species’ population may become smaller
B.the species may change faster quickly
C.the earth may become warmer
D.there will be more pollution on the earth
55. The writer thinks the biggest problem with global warming is ________.
A.the earth’s temperatures keep rising B.humans can’t predict what will happen
C.there will be fewer species on the earth D.there will be more pollution on the earth

①There is a famous expression in English “Stop the world, I want to get off!” This expression is actually about a feeling of panic (恐慌), which makes a person want to stop whatever they are doing, try to relax, and become calm again. “Stress” is one of the most common causes of health problems in modern life. Too much stress results in physical, emotional, and mental health problems.
②There are plenty of physical effects (影响) of stress. Stress can affect the heart. It can make the heart beat faster or miss beats, and can also cause high blood pressure. Stress can affect the respiratory ( 呼吸) system ( 系统). It can cause a person to breathe too fast, resulting in a loss of important carbon dioxide (二氧化碳). Stress can affect the stomach. It can cause stomach hurts and problems digesting (消化) food. These are only a few examples of symptoms(征状)resulting from stress.
③Emotions (情绪) are also easily affected by stress. People who have too much stress often feel worried. They may feel tired all the time. When people are under stress they often overreact (反应过度) to little problems. For example, a normally gentle parent under a lot of stress at work may shout at a child for dropping a glass of juice. Stress can make people angry, moody(情绪化), or nervous.
④Long-term stress can lead to different kinds of serious mental illnesses. Depression(抑郁), a terrible feeling of sadness and hopelessness, can be the result of continued and increasing stress. Eating disorders (紊乱)are sometimes caused by stress and are often made worse by stress. If stress is allowed to continue, then one’s mental health is at risk.
⑤It is clear that stress is a serious problem. It has a great influence on the health and our feeling. So, reduce stress, stop the world and rest for a while.
How might the person feel by saying “Stop the world, I want to get off!”
A. Excited. B. Happy. C. Surprised. D. Stressed out.
57. According to the passage, which of the following may have nothing to do with too much pressure
Ben, a middle school student is breathing too fast before an exam.
Linda is having fast heartbeat and high blood pressure before giving a speech.
Jane has a stomachache when looking at her son’s poor grades after losing her job.
Nick, a factory worker, is working by himself to complete a big task.

Forum (论坛): Technology and Daily Life
Host: Hello, everyone! Technology has changed our life a lot. Today, Tom, Anna and Jack will talk about how tech helps them in daily life—and how to use it wisely.
Tom (13, Beijing) — E-reader I got an E-reader last year. It’s small and light, so I can carry it easily. It holds hundreds of books, so I never run out of stories. I get new books online instead of buying paper ones. The screen is kind to eyes, even for long reads. But it needs charging ( 充电). Once it died mid-story—I learned to charge it on time, so it never stops when I need it.
Jack (13, Hangzhou) — Online Study Apps I use study apps daily. They have video lessons and practice exercises. Have problems with math I can turn to them for help. They check homework fast, too. But I set a timer (计时器) now. If I use them too long, I will forget to rest, which will be bad for my eyes. Controlling time lets them help me learn better.
Anna (14, Chengdu) — Smart Watch My mom bought me a smart watch. It tells time, counts steps, and pushes me to walk more. It reminds me to drink water when I’m busy. Last week, I fell when running, and it messaged Mom quickly. But it needs my phone nearby. I keep them close but don't check it too often—so it helps, not distracts (分心).
