九、阅读理解
The Venus flytrap is one of the most amazing plants in the world. It is not like ordinary plants that only get food from sunlight, water and soil. Instead, it can catch and eat small insects!
The Venus flytrap grows in wet places in the southeastern United States. Its leaves are special—each leaf has two parts, like a trap. On the surface of the leaves, there are small hairs. When an insect touches these hairs twice, the two parts of the leaf close quickly, just like a mouth closing. The insect can't get away because the leaf closes very tightly.
After catching the insect, the Venus flytrap produces a kind of liquid. This liquid helps break down the insect's body, so the plant can absorb the nutrients from the insect. It takes about 10 to 14 days for the plant to finish eating the insect. Then, the leaf opens again, waiting for the next insect.
However, the Venus flytrap is now in danger. The places where it grows are being destroyed by human activities. People are also digging up the plants to sell them. Scientists are trying to protect this special plant so that it won't disappear.
1.What makes the Venus flytrap different from ordinary plants
A. It needs sunlight to grow. B. It can catch and eat small insects.
C. It grows in wet places. D. It has special leaves.
2.Where does the Venus flytrap grow
A. In the northeastern United States. B. In the southwestern United States.
C. In the southeastern United States. D. In the northwestern United States.
3.How does the Venus flytrap catch insects
A. Its leaves have thorns to pierce insects. B. Its leaves close quickly when touched twice.
C. It produces a sweet smell to attract insects. D. It uses roots to catch insects underground.
4.How long does it take for the Venus flytrap to eat an insect
A. About 5 to 7 days. B. About 10 to 14 days. C. About 15 to 20 days. D. About 20 to 25 days.
5.Why is the Venus flytrap in danger now
A. Because there are not enough insects for it to eat.
B. Because the climate becomes too cold for it to grow.
C. Because its growing places are destroyed and it is sold.
D. Because other plants take away its nutrients.
十、任务型阅读
Read the passage and answer the questions.
Penguins are lovely birds that live in the southern part of the world, such as Antarctica, South America and Australia. Unlike most birds, penguins can't fly. But they are excellent swimmers! Their wings have become short and thick, which look like flippers. These flippers help them swim fast in the sea—some penguins can swim up to 24 kilometers per hour.
Penguins mainly eat fish, squid and krill. They can dive into the sea to catch food. Some penguins can dive as deep as 565 meters! Penguins usually live in groups called colonies. Living in groups helps them keep warm, especially in cold places like Antarctica.
Most penguins lay two eggs at a time, but some kinds lay only one. Both parents take turns to sit on the eggs to keep them warm. After the baby penguins are born, their parents feed them with food that they have stored in their stomachs. Baby penguins have soft feathers, and these feathers will be replaced by waterproof feathers when they grow up.
Where do penguins live
Why can't penguins fly like most birds
What do penguins mainly eat
What do we call a group of penguins
How do parents help baby penguins after they are born
