How tall can a tree grow In China, the tallest tree is a Cupressus torulosa(藏柏) in Nyingchi, Xizang. It stands at 101.2 metres trunk tall. If you include the dead trunk, it stands at 102.3 metres. This makes it the second-tallest kind of tree in the world after the Coast Redwood in the US.
In February 2023, scientists first found a very tall Cupressus torulosa in Nyingchi. It was about 86 metres tall, making it the tallest tree in China at that time. In April, a team came to measure(测量) the trees carefully. They found that the area had many tall trees, some over 85 metres, and some even over 90 metres. Finally, in May, they found the tallest tree.
The tree is in a natural forest, which is hard to reach. Researchers had to climb tall mountains, cross freezing rivers, and even watch out for wild animals. When they finally found the tree, they were surprised by its size.
To find out the tree's height, the researchers used drones and lidar(激光雷达) to help them check the area and collect information quickly. But the thick(茂密的) forest made it hard to see the tree's roots and trunk, so they used drones and lidar to create a 3D model of the tree.
Taking a full picture of the tree was also hard. Since they couldn't photograph the whole tree from one point, they used a drone to take 161 photos from different heights. Then, they put them together to make a complete picture.

The United Nations(UN) decided that 2025 is the year of glacier preservation(冰川保护). It also set 21st March,2025, as the first yearly World Day for Glaciers. This is to encourage everyone to help save glaciers.
Glaciers are the build-up of ice and snow on land. They shaped mountains and rivers over Earth's history. They are still actively changing land in many places today. Glaciers are not just important for the land. When glaciers melt(融化), the nutrients(养料)from the water are good for animals and plants in rivers and oceans. In some places, glaciers give water for humans too. The UN says there are about 200,000 glaciers in the world, covering 10% of the land. They also hold 70% of Earth's fresh water. The water fills big rivers, such as the Indus, Ganges and Brahmaputra.
However, because of global warming, glaciers are in big trouble. Nowadays, many glaciers aren't around anymore. For example, Colombia already lost about 90% of its glaciers. If temperatures rise by 1.5-4℃, glaciers could lose a lot of their ice by the year 2100.
If glaciers are gone, there will be less water for people to drink and farm, while floods(洪水)might happen more often because of melting ice. It would also be bad for wild animals. Mountains with glaciers are home to special ecosystems and a large number of wild animals. As temperatures rise and glaciers melt, these places may become not fit for them to live.

When holidays arrive, people often go to the countryside for fresh air or stay indoors to enjoy shopping. But now there's a new trend(趋势) in China: industrial tourism(工业旅游). Instead of just relaxing or spending money, more people are taking factory tours while on vacation. Hu Sisi, a 29-year-old from Suzhou, tried it for the first time during this year's May Day holiday. She watched how people make huangjiu.“It was a new experience for me to learn something while travelling,” said Hu.
Industrial tourism began in Europe around the middle of the 20th century(世纪). It came to China in the late 1990s. Now, it's becoming more and more popular in China. There are more than 1,000 industrial tourist places in the country. Some places interest a great number of visitors. For example, the Tsingtao Beer Museum welcomed over 1.8 million visitors last year.
Why do so many people like industrial tourism It's fun Many places added exciting activities to their tours. Visitors can make cakes or watch robots build cars. Some factories even use 3D shows to make people's trips more interesting.
But industrial tourism is more than just fun. It also helps build trust(信任) between factories and customers.“When people don't know how things are made, they may worry about their quality(质量). But if they see the whole process, they are more likely to trust the products,” said a factory owner.
