The 80-year-old man pulled a man out of his sinking car after he had driven into a river carelessly. Montelongo jumped up to help without any hesitation (犹豫) or thinking about his own health.
The accident happened while the elderly man was taking his granddaughter home after going to a dentist’s (牙科诊所). They had stopped at a traffic light when they saw a car drive off the road into a river. Montelongo quickly got out of his car to check out the scene and noticed that water began to fill the car, which would lead to the death of the trapped driver. Without thinking about the danger and risk to his own health, the 80-year-old man quickly walked to the river and managed to pull the 62-year-old Jack from the car by his shirt.
“I really don’t consider myself a hero. I was just a man that got put in the right place at the right time,” Montelongo later said in an interview.
This, however, wasn’t Montelongo’s only act of heroism. Nearly 20 years ago, he helped two of his neighbours get to safety as their house caught fire. He was awarded the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission medal for this bravery and act of heroism.

In many organizations, perhaps the best way to complete certain new projects is to gather a group of people into a team.
Having a team of people attack a project offers several advantages. First of all,a group of people have more knowledge, more experience, and more skills in different fields than any single individual(个体)does. A group can work more quickly whenever the task is assigned. And a group can come up with highly creative solutions(解决办法)to problems because of the numbers of people who take part and greater resources they have.
Also,a group is more likely to make risky decisions which a single individual might not make. This is because the group spreads responsibility(责任)to all the members. And thus,if the decision turns out to be wrong,no single individual can be held accountable(负有责任的).
Then, taking part in a group can be very rewarding for members of the team. Team members who have a voice in making a decision will no doubt feel better about doing the work than they might do what is imposed(把……强加于)on them by others.
Last but not least, the team member has a much better change to“shine”. This is because they get more chances to have his or her contributions and ideas not only recognized(认可),but recognized as highly important. This kind of high-recognition is because a team’s achievement or influence is much higher than the individual’s. A team can finish and achieve what the individual can’t do. And a team can reach a height which the individual can’t reach.
18.How many advantages of a team are mentioned in the passage
A.Two B.Three C.Four D.Five
19.The first paragraph mainly tells us that .
A.many organizations gather people into teams
B.it is good to form a team to complete tasks
C.new projects are often sent to large groups
D.people would like to communicate in groups
20.Which of the following is true according to paragraphs 2&3
A.A group of people are sure to be highly creative.
B.A team always finishes more tasks than individuals.
C.It’s difficult for a team to make creative decisions.
D.The members of a group can share responsibility.
21.A team is worth taking part in because .
A.individuals do not have rights to make decisions
B.team members have better changes to be excellent
C.team members are easily respected by other people
D.individuals can not achieve goals or reach a height

One day when some government officials were rebuilding a barn (谷仓), they found a mouse hole in a corner and used smoke to force the mice inside the hole to come out. A while later they indeed saw mice running out, one after another. Then, everyone thought that all the mice had escaped. But just as they began to clean up, they saw two mice squeezing (挤) out at the mouth of the hole. With some efforts, the mice finally got out. However, it was strange that after they came out of the hole, they did not run away immediately. Instead, one chased after the other near the mouth of the hole. It seemed that one was trying to bite (咬) the tail of the other.
Everyone was puzzled, so they stepped nearer to take a look. They realized that one of the mice was blind and could not see anything, and the other was trying to allow the blind mouse to bite on his tail so that he could pull the blind one with him to escape.
After seeing what happened, everyone was speechless and lost in thought. During the meal time, the group of people sat down in a circle and started to chat about what happened to the two mice.
One serious American official said: “I think the relationship between those two mice was that of king and guard.” The others thought for a while and said: “That was why!” A smart French said: “I think the relationship between those two mice was that of husband and wife.” Again the others thought for a while, and all felt it made sense. A Japanese said: “I think the relationship between those two mice was that of mother and son.” Once again the others thought for a while, and felt this was more reasonable. So they expressed agreement another time.
At that moment, one Chinese asked: “Why did those two mice have to have a certain relationship ” Suddenly, the group looked back at the Chinese and remained speechless. The American official, the French and the Japanese who had spoken earlier all lowered their heads in shame, and did not dare to answer.
In fact, the true love is not built on friendship, loyalty or blood relationship. Instead, it is based on no relationship.
22.Neither of the two mice ran away immediately because ________.

We attended puppy kindergarten weekly to learn how to train him. For the first six months, he was always on a leash. When he turned one, it was time to send him for formal training. We were in love with him but had to say goodbye. Seeing pictures of him with his new owner makes me happy. Knowing he’ ll improve her life fills me with pride. I’ll always cherish the memories we made with Escort.
