While developing an app a couple of years ago, Aryan Nangia, a Class 12 student at Pathways School, Gurugram, India, saw some problems. “Over the course of time, I noticed that many of my friends had great ideas for things they wanted to build, but they only remained at the idea level. They had trouble doing marketing, dealing with money, and growing their projects, making it difficult for actual products to appear. For many teenagers, this is a common situation,” Aryan said.
Therefore, Aryan created LaunchPad — a free digital platform (数字平台) aimed at helping students learn necessary skills for the future and build real-world projects. “We waited a month to launch (发布) it because I wanted everything to look just right. I was afraid to fail. But the first step to any creation is never perfect. Once you put it out there and start getting suggestions and reviews from the users, you’ll make improvements accordingly,” Aryan said.
Through videos, expert interviews, and presentations, LaunchPad helps students learn these skills in a fun way. The platform also offers guidance programs, where students are paired with volunteers who guide them based on their interests. For example, a student interested in robots might be connected with a volunteer who is good at that area. It’s really about providing first-hand advice and instruction during their project-building journey.
Armaan, a 14-year-old student at Pathways School, developed skills in design thinking, business plans, and problem-solving through LaunchPad. He tells how the program’s focus on soft skills, like storytelling and communication, has allowed him to better present himself. “I’m working on developing skills that will aid me in choosing the right career,” he said, with a particular interest in computer science.
Looking back on his journey, Aryan can’t wait to share his experience with other students. “ Sometimes, we overthink our ideas. The best projects often come from simple ideas that you deeply care about, and the best way to learn is by doing. Focus on what excites you, and you’ll be amazed at what you can create,” he said.
41. Many of Aryan’s friends found it difficult to ________.
A. gain design skills B. put ideas into practice

A. Valuable. B. Interesting. C. Difficult. D. Boring.
45. What is Aryan’s suggestion for other students

In the middle of the twentieth century, medical research showed that there was a clear connection between cardiovascular (心血管的)disease or CVD and lifestyle. This awareness led to a change in attitudes towards health care. Health experts began to stress the idea that people could take control of their own health instead of relying on medical help. People listened.
Many people are no longer depending on doctors for advice and treatment; instead they are focusing on preventive measures and taking responsibility for their own health. A greater understanding of the connection between diet and health has led many to reduce or even reject food high in fat from their diets.
Similarly, people are also becoming more serious about reducing stress. An increasing number of people understand that frequent aerobic (有氧的)exercise like walking, running, and swimming reduces stress.
These changes in attitudes and behavior have had a positive effect. Deaths from CVD first began to fall in western countries in the 1960s, and this trend continues today. In the United States the death rate from this disease fell by more than 35 percent between 1980 and 1997 and then by another 26 percent between 1999 and 2005. In 2010, 6 percent of adults suffered from some form of CVD, down from 6.7 percent in 2006.
However, the news about CVD is not all positive. Despite the fall in death rates, CVD is still much too frequent in most western countries. CVD has also become much more common in developing countries, with 80 percent of all CVD deaths now occurring there.
What are governments doing to fight this terrible disease The global effort to inform people of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle continues. Governments are also introducing specific changes aimed at reducing unhealthy lifestyles. In Mauritius a government program encouraged the nation to switch from palm oil, high in fat, to healthier soybean oil.
46. What does the underlined word “ change” in Paragraph 1 refer to
A. A decreasing number of people are dying from CVD.
B. People understand the need for an expert doctor.
C. Medical science can be used to cure CVD.
D. People take better care of their health.
47. What are more people doing to reduce stress
A. Exercising on a regular basis.
B. Focusing on new medical research.
C. Seeking treatment from their doctors.
D. Removing food high in fat.
48 How does the author show the effects of these changes
A. By giving examples. B. By stating arguments.
C. By listing numbers. D. By providing research results.
49. Why did the government of Mauritius encourage people to eat soybean oil instead of palm oil
A. Soybean oil is cheaper than palm oil.
B. Palm oil is less healthy than soybean oil.
C. Soybean oil is easier to digest than palm oil.
D. Palm oil is harder to produce than soybean oil.
50. What would be the best title for the text
A. Causes of CVD
B. Changing patterns of CVD
C. Changing attitudes towards CVD
D. Treatment breakthroughs in the field of CVD
D
Nature journaling is an activity where people use words or pictures to record what they notice while outside in nature. “We see people of all ages doing nature journaling, as participants (参与者) do not need to be skilled artists or writers. They spent their time understanding the social, educational, and artistic sides of the activity,” said doctoral student Amy Powell.
The researchers carried out a study over a 12-month period with 153 people who took part in nature journaling programs hosted by Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center. The group included 112 adults, from 23 to75 years old, and 41 youths, between 6 and 13 years old. After attending nature journaling, both adult and youth participants expressed their sense of well-being and what they had learned from the programs. The research team listed the common ideas and experiences shared by participants.
The researchers found that many adults were faced with loneliness. Outdoor programs like nature journaling were a social experience happening among adult participants. It brought them closer to their local community. Participants enjoyed being around people who have similar interests and being a part of a group.
Adults also expressed the enjoyment of learning about new nature journaling methods and the natural world around them. Nature journaling can serve as an educational tool for environmental education. Adults’ attention to nature keeps growing. On the other hand, youth participants were more drawn to nature journaling for the chance to explore the outdoors up close. Therefore, future nature journaling programs can tailor their design to meet the real needs of their participants.
“Importantly, nature journaling can be a way for people to reduce stress,” said Associate Teaching Professor McClain. “It can help people deal with sadness or worries. Nature journaling is giving people a chance to slow down for relaxation and pay attention to their environment and be creative in how they record that.” It is necessary to encourage the activity more widely across different age groups.
51. What did Amy Powell point out about nature journaling
A. It is of rich value. B. It centers on science.
C. It needs special tools. D. It requires teamwork.
52. How did the researchers get their findings from participants
A. By studying their journals. B. By recording their feelings.
C. By reviewing their backgrounds. D. By watching their outdoor behavior.
53. What is the main benefit of nature journaling for adult participants
A. Developing fun hobbies. B. Improving creative expression.
C. Increasing social responsibility. D. Building community connections.
54. What does the underlined word “tailor” in paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Share. B. Continue. C. Adjust. D. Cover.
55. What can be the best title for the text
A. Discovering youth education programs B. Exploring the power of nature journaling
C. Improving adult-youth exchanges in nature D. Supporting environmental efforts by journaling

The legendary charity runner Rosie Swale Pope has jogged (慢跑) her way across Europe to Istanbul, Turkey, as she continues her 6,000-mile journey from Brighton in the U.K. to Kathmandu in Nepal. The 73-year-old took on the challenge in an effort to raise support to improve health, education and living of local communities in Nepal, which was destroyed by a destructive earthquake in 2015.
“It is not about just giving people food. It is about helping these talented people to grow their own food,” she said as she jogged by the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia, the top tourist attractions in Istanbul.
Pope, from Tenby, Wales, began her journey to Kathmandu from Brighton, a town on the English Channel, in July 2018. Turkey is the 13th country she’s jogged through. The Republic of Georgia is next on her itinerary.
“I never know where I sleep every night. I sleep in fields. I sleep in the streets. I get up and run. I meet people I would never meet any other way,” she said. She transports her belongings in a bright red cart (手推车) that she drags behind her while she runs.
Recognized as one of the world’s longest solo runners, she ran around the world in 2004 to raise money for charity, and in 2015 she ran across the United States — from New York to San Francisco — to honor her late husband, Clive, who died from prostate cancer.
Her adventures also include sailing alone from the U.K. to the U.S. in a 17-foot boat. She described herself as “just an ordinary person, and I am old,” but she’s made special connections all over the world. “I meet people I would never meet any other way and actually it is a way of giving more to life because I have more. You don’t go out and you don’t wait for the world to come to you,” she said.

A. Share. B. Continue. C. Adjust. D. Cover.

【答案】Dear Jack,
How are you doing I’ve just started my high school life, and I’d like to share some of the differences I’ve experienced.
Compared with middle school, high school life is more challenging. I have more subjects to study, and the lessons require deeper thinking. Therefore, I have to manage my time effectively. Besides, I’ve joined the chess club, an exciting opportunity that wasn’t offered in middle school. These changes have benefited my personal growth. I’ve become more organized and responsible. Moreover, I’ve made new friends who share similar interests, which makes high school life enjoyable despite the added pressure.
How’s everything going at your school I’d love to hear about your experiences too!
Best wishes
Li Jin
