Water Bottles: A Hidden Health Risk
Reusable water bottles are very popular now. They are not just cool to carry, but also help you drink enough water. What’s more, they are good for the environment because they cut down on single-use plastic waste. But if you don’t clean them often, they can be bad for your health.
Why Because these bottles can hold lots of bacteria (细菌) and molds (霉菌). Even tap water isn’t totally clean. Bacteria grow easily in the bottle, especially when you keep it at room temperature. Most of the bacteria come from your mouth and hands. Every time you drink from the bottle. you add more bacteria to it. Some bad bacteria, like E.coli (大肠杆菌), can also get into the bottle if you don’t wash your hands after using the toilet. Studies say there can be as many bacteria in a dirty bottle as on a toilet seat!
Drinks like milkshakes or fruit juice make things worse. They have protein and sugar, which help bacteria grow fast.
So, how can we keep our water bottles clean It’s easy. Wash it often with hot water (over 60℃) and a little washing-up liquid. Use a bottle brush to clean the inside well. Let the bottle dry fully, maybe overnight. Don’t forget to clean the lid and straws too— they have bacteria too.
By cleaning our water bottles properly, we can enjoy the benefits of using them while staying healthy.

Centuries later, something ____35____ happened to Scottish microbiologist Alexander Fleming. One day, he noticed mold (霉菌) growing in a petri dish (培养皿). Following his curiosity, he went on to discover penicillin (青霉素).
Like many of you, I grew up reading stories like these. But now, as a ____36____ myself, I don’t just keep them alive in my memory. I also try to live out the lesson they teach.
I’m working on better ways to treat cancer (癌症). Since the beginning of my career, I’ve been interested in nanotechnology. I would like to ____37____ how it could help people fight cancer. It was quite a new idea in the field. This curiosity led me to study some special antibodies (抗体).These antibodies could give the immune system (免疫系统) extra strength to attack cancer cells (细胞). Meanwhile, they left healthy cells almost untouched. The more I learned, the more I wanted to dig deeper.
My curiosity finally brought me to the Maynard Lab at the University of Texas, a leading lab for antibody engineering. Moving to a new country was a big ____38____ for me. I also had to get used to a completely different research environment. Nothing was easy at first, but my curiosity kept me going and pushed me past every difficulty.
Without my curious mind, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Curiosity truly is a powerful engine that ____39____new findings. I’m glad I’ve never been afraid to take the road less traveled. Now, I can’t wait to see where my curiosity will lead me next.

Chatbots in the Classroom
Imagine you’re in school, staring at a pile of craft materials with no idea what to create. A friendly AI chatbot named Mundo could come to your rescue. Mundo uses artificial intelligence to answer questions and give creative ideas. For example, if you ask, “What can I make using cotton swabs and pipe cleaners ” Mundo might suggest making flowers, bookmarks, or even a skeleton. You can ask again if you don’t like the first answer, and it might give you something better.
Mundo is designed for students aged 13 and older. It uses the same AI technology as ChatGPT which can produce essays, code and other content. However, this has worried many teachers. Some students use it to cheat on assignments. A 2023 survey found that about half of students have used ChatGPT for tests, quizzes, or essays. Because of this, many schools have blocked the tool.
ChatGPT collects information about users, which might not be safe for young people’s personal information. Although users under 13 can’t create accounts, Mundo doesn’t require accounts at all to make it safer for kids.
Another problem is that chatbots sometimes make mistakes. They might give wrong information or even invent facts. For instance, ChatGPT once incorrectly said the fastest sea mammal is the peregrine falcon (指游隼), but falcons are not sea animals or mammals. This happens because chatbots work differently from search engines. They use large language models trained on internet content to predict words, which can lead to mistakes.
While AI chatbots like Mundo can be helpful in the classroom, it’s important to use them carefully. They can inspire creativity, but we must also watch out for cheating, privacy issues, and incorrect information.
