I looked through the window of the nice little violin shop, and my heart began to race. Several violins hung from the dark walls, quietly waiting to be chosen. Right then, I thought about my past.
My childhood was all about the hobbies I had tried, most of which had been chosen by Mom. She was like:“Join the swim team, Tara. Your sister is a good swimmer; surely you will be, too.” Yet she refused to see I was afraid of water.
Every Saturday I would jump into the cold water with all my strength and swim to the other side of the pool. I would have given it up if I had not heard my father's encouraging shouts to cheer me on.
Then came a turning point in my life, the day our school music group visited my class and gave a show. The drums bored me. The flutes (笛子) bored me. But the violin... ah, the violin. It made the sweetest sound I'd ever heard! My heart was dancing along with the beautiful music.
Holding the paper with the orchestra (管弦乐队) director's permission, I ran all the way home after school, and handed it to my parents with a fear that they might say no. They didn't. Mom was happy to see me finally excited about something, and dad winked (眨眼示意) at me while signing the paper quickly.
I now have been practicing the violin for 4 years, and have improved quickly. Before long I won the first place in the local orchestra...
26.How did Tara feel when she swam
A. Nervous. B. Excited. C. Proud. D. Relaxed.
27.What made Tara feel excited during the school music group's visit
A. The sound of the drums. B. The sound of the violin.
C. The music group's show. D. All the instruments.
28.When did Tara begin to practice the violin
A. 1 year ago. B. 2 years ago. C. 3 years ago. D. 4 years ago.
29.What helped Tara win the first place in the local orchestra
A. Her mother's push. B. Her father's encouragement.
C. Her love for the violin. D. The school music group's help.
30What can we learn from the story
A. It's never too young to learn. B. Interest is the best teacher.
C. Practice makes perfect. D. Like mother, like daughter.

Though among the most popular pets, house cats remain mysterious (神秘的) to many. While we know exactly when they're hungry, it is often unclear what they pay attention to at other times. Now, researchers have found that these independent animals can learn the names of other cats they live with. Some might even connect their human friends' faces with their names.
The researchers examined the actions of cats living in homes with at least two cats, and compared them with cats living in cat cafes (咖啡馆). In the test, each cat was shown a photo of a cat they knew on a screen while a recorded voice played correct and incorrect names. When the name did not match the cat they were looking at, the house cats would fix their eyes on it longer and tilt (倾斜) their heads, as if thinking “Is this certain to be my friend's name ”.
However, cats living in cat cafes did not act the same way. The researchers suggest that this is because cafe cats are called by a number of names by different visitors. As a result, they have less chance to hear one exact name repeated over and over again, making it harder for them to learn it properly.
The researchers also wondered whether cats can learn human names. The results were less clear than with cat names, but a pattern appeared: Cats that had lived with a larger family of humans for a longer time seemed better at connecting human faces with names.
Unless we can invent a machine that truly understands animals' thoughts, it's impossible to know for sure what is going on in a cat's mind. But this study shows that through everyday family life, cats do seem to remember which name goes with which person. This finding proves our pet cats are really quite smart—they learn far more from living with us than we often realize.
31.What can we learn about cats from paragraph 1
A. They depend on humans too much. B. They are the most mysterious pets.
C. They can learn other cats' names. D. They are easy to get hungry.
32.What happened during the test when a wrong name was called
A. House cats watched the screen longer.
B. Cats tried to call the right name.
C. The cafe cats acted more strongly.
D. House cats stopped tilting their heads.
33.Why didn't the cafe cats act the same as the house cats
A. They weren't as smart as house cats.
B. They didn't live with a large family.
C. The visitors were not their owners.
D. They heard different names from people.
34.What can we infer (推断) from the research
A. Cats' name-learning has nothing to do with family size.
B. Cats may need time and daily life to learn human names.
C. Cats remember human names as clearly as their own names.
D. Scientists surely understand cats' brain when learning names.
35.How does the writer mainly develop the text
A. By telling stories. B. By giving examples. C. By listing numbers. D. By making comparisons.
D
The big day is finally here. You and your team have made it to the final game of the soccer tournament (联赛). You're ready to win... but so is the other team. Then, suddenly, someone scores! The game is over. The other team has won and gets a shiny gold cup. But then the coaches start giving out something else to you and the other players: participation awards (参与奖). Everyone reacts differently. Some cheer with pride. Others look disappointed. And you You don't know how to feel...
Participation awards have been around since the 1920s, when they were invented to make sports safer for kids. That's because when the first youth sports tournament was created in the early 1900s, games were even more competitive than they are today. Many kids were badly hurt in their effort (努力) to win. Adults were worried. Some schools even stopped holding sports programs completely.
But then came a solution: participation awards. The point was to take the focus away from winning and put it on other values, like teamwork and hard work, or sticking to something. Many people today say that's why participation awards are still needed. “Winning isn't everything,” says Kenneth Barish, a scientist who studies kids' feelings and behavior. “The more important thing is to let kids know that we're proud of them—not for winning, but for their effort. Praising (赞扬) effort has an amazing influence. It makes it easier for young people to try new things without fear, learn from mistakes, and take on new challenges with a positive attitude.”
But some people worry that giving awards to everyone sends the wrong message. Some even believe it is time to toss them aside for good. In real life, people are not always rewarded for just showing up. After all, you don't get an A just for going to class. Participation awards, some say, could teach kids to expect awards when they aren't deserved (值得).
So what do you think Does everyone deserve a participation award
36.What's the writing purpose of paragraph 1
A. To talk about a soccer game.
B. To show how people feel about awards.
C. To compare two kinds of awards.
D. To lead in the topic of participation awards.
37.What can we learn about participation awards from paragraph 2
A. They were created to make sports safer for kids.
B. They started with the first youth sports tournament.
C. They were made to make games more competitive.
D. They were used to solve parents' worry by schools.
38.What does Kenneth Barish mainly want to tell us
A. Why winning shouldn't be taken serious.
B. Why participation awards are necessary.
C. How awards can influence game results.
D. How participation awards stop competing.
39.What does the underlined words“toss them aside for good” mean in paragraph 4
A. Throw them away forever. B. Keep them in mind.
C. Treat them as fun things. D. Turn them into money.
40.What does the writer think of participation awards
A. He supports them. B. He sees both sides.
C. He doubts them. D. He doesn't care.
第二节 阅读七选五(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
It's nice to receive a gift. But if you're not going to use it, should you pass it on Regifting means giving a gift you received to someone else. 41 Since people spend a lot of money on gifts, many wonder what to do with presents they don't need.
Some think regifting is impolite. They believe it misses the true meaning of gift-giving. When you regift, you don't choose something special for the receiver. The person might notice and feel hurt. There's another problem too. 42 What will you answer if you have already given it away Telling the truth might seem thankless, while lying is worse. A better idea is to find a creative way to use the gift yourself.
Other people have a different opinion and find regifting acceptable. They believe the meaning of a gift isn't about the object itself. 43 A present you don't need could be perfect for someone else. When you regift something, you're doing two good things: making someone else happy and avoiding waste.
Lizzie Post, an expert on manners, says that there is a right way and a wrong way to regift. She suggests some basic rules: always keep handmade gifts, and only give away gifts that are still new. Historians remind us that gift-giving itself started thousands of years ago. 44
45 The most important thing is to think about what is helpful while also caring about others' feelings. This way, we remember the true meaning of gift-giving: to show kindness and make others happy.
A.So, whether regifting is wrong is up to you. B. They think the kind thought behind a gift matters most. C. Some people worry receivers will find out the gift is regifted. D. Early humans gave simple gifts like rocks and teeth. E. This idea has started a big discussion about politeness. F. If you don't like it, just smile and say thank you can be good. G. The first giver may later ask if you like the gift.
