David: I know that grasslands in different places are home to different animals. In Inner Mongolia, there are horses and cows, but in Africa, there are lions and giraffes.
Kitty: Oh, really Do you know anything about deserts
David: Well, it's very dry in deserts because there's little rain. And the difference in temperature between day and night is huge.
Kitty: Yes, the climate in deserts is so awful that only a few animals and plants can live there.
David: It's true. The desert plants keep water in their leaves, and many animals there get water from these plants.

Oceans cover about 71% of the earth's surface, making them the largest ecosystem on earth.
Grasslands have very few trees but lots of tall grasses and wildflowers.
In deserts, some plants can live without rain for years.
Polar bears live in the North Pole, and penguins live in the South Pole.

Language points
look like 意为“看起来像”,有以下几种用法:
(1)描述外貌,指某人或某物和其他人或物具有很大的相似性。
(2)描述天气或环境,意为看起来有某种可能。
(3)表达某种可能性,指意外情况可能发生。
询问某人的外貌长什么样使用句型“What do/does+主语+look like ”意为“……长什么样 ”
2. Coral reefs look like rocks, but they support a lot of life in
just a small area.珊瑚礁看起来像岩石,但它们在很小的区

e.g. The girl looks like her mother. 那个女孩看起来像她妈妈。
The stone looks like a dog. 那块石头看起来像只狗。

4. I know that grasslands in different places are home to different animals.
长难句分析:这是一个含宾语从句的复合句。主句主语是I,谓语是know,that grasslands in different places are home to different animals是宾语从句;从句中的in different places是介词短语作后置定语,修饰grasslands。
5. Yes, the climate in deserts is so awful that only a few animals
and plants can live there. 是的,沙漠里的气候如此恶劣,以
至于只有少数动植物能够在那里生存。
so...that...意为“如此……以至于……”,用于表达因果关系,强调结果或影响。描述一个事件或情况如此强烈,以至于导致另一个事件或情况发生。
e.g. He did so well in the exam that everyone praised him.
他考得那么好,人人都称赞他。
辨析: so...that... 与so that
so... that... 意为“如此……以至于……”,引导结果状语从句,so 后面接形容词或副词,that 后面接从句,so 和that 要分开。
so that 意为“以便于;为了”,通常引导目的状语从句,从句中通常有情态动词can,could,may,might 等。主句在前,从句在后,且主句和从句之间没有逗号隔开。
e.g. It was so cold outside that we had to stop the game.
外面太冷了我们不得不停止了比赛。
I set up the computer so that they could work at home.
我把电脑设置好这样他们就可以在家里办公了。
