A
Climate change could have large impacts on food production across the world. Rising temperatures might boost crop production in cold regions but negatively impact production in warmer areas. Wheat and rice — which benefit from more CO2 in the atmosphere — could see growing output, while corn and sorghum (高粱)could see a decline with warmer temperatures.
Farmers can adjust their practices to a warmer climate in four key ways:
A recent study by experts modeled three adaptation methods — changing WHAT, changing WHEN and changing both of them. The chart below shows their impact on the output of corn, rice, sorghum, soybean (大豆) and wheat.
These three adaptation methods can already go some way to relieve climate pressures in some countries. But, of course, we don’t only care about crop production at the global level. If farmers in particular regions — especially those that are most food-insecure — cannot adapt to climate change, this is still a major problem. So there is more we can do in the future.
21. What should farmers change if they are short of money and labour
A. WHAT. B. WHERE. C.WHEN. D.HOW.
22. Which crop may benefit most if farmers plant improved varieties
A. Corn. B. Rice. C. Sorghum. D.Wheat.
23. What should be done in the future
A. To help the farmers in need. B.To adopt the three methods.
C. To focus on crop production. D.To move to colder regions.
B
Back when I was attending an educational meeting, a fellow told me about a 5-year-old pupil who had written a few words in his book to describe his weekend. Underneath, his teacher wrote: “Can you write some more ” The pupil’s reply filled the whole page: “Noooooooooooooooooooo.”
That “no” has stayed with me, not just because it makes me laugh, but because it reminds me how crucial it is that young children feel driven and are equipped for their learning journeys, especially with a skill like writing.
Writing is tricky for young children. They have to develop skillfulness in their pencil grasp and control, remember and correct letter formation, and know how to link letters and sounds. This is a lot for a young child to remember and do all at the same time.
Mastering these skills takes time, practice and careful guidance but language provides the foundation of thinking and learning and should be put in the first place. Before they can write about what they did at the weekend, for example, many children in kindergarten need considerable support to develop their oral language and imaginative role-play skills, so that they can speak in full sentences and move beyond the “here and now” to talk about things they did in the past.
Alongside language, physical development forms a second crucial pillar (支柱) of early writing success. A carefully planned program to develop children’s fine and gross motor skills, including the use of tools like pencils, needs to be in place before we can expect them to write letters, words and sentences. And as with all mastery approaches to learning, we should be checking these skills are secure before moving children on to more complex tasks.
None of these means that teaching handwriting should be avoided in the early years. Once children have the oral language and physical skills they need, it is important for them to learn correct letter formation. Forming letters incorrectly can quickly become habitual, and habits take a lot of unlearning.
24. What does the story of the 5-year-old mainly show
A. The error in asking children to write more. B. Children’s general unwillingness to write.
C. The critical role of motivation and readiness. D. The extreme difficulty in writing about weekends.
25. What makes writing hard for young children according to the text
A. A natural lack of interest in writing.
B. A common shortage of proper guidance.
C. The challenge of mastering multiple complex skills.
D. The absence of well-structured practice programs.
26. What is the most important factor for young children to develop writing skills
A. Skillfulness with pencils and tools. B. A strong command of oral language.
C. The habit of correct letter formation. D. Experience in summarizing past events.
27. What conclusion can be reached about teaching handwriting to young children
A. It contributes to children’s future academic success.
B. It can be excluded before oral skills are mastered.
C. It should follow the development of foundational skills.
D. It holds greater importance than motor skill development.
C
As the global population continues to expand, traditional farming methods are struggling to provide enough food. However, an innovative agricultural company in Compton, Los Angeles, may have the solution. Their revolutionary farming system could transform food production, offering remarkable efficiency and sustainability.
It’s far from the storybook picture of a farm — no mud, no boots, no hens pecking in the yard. Unlike conventional farms, this high-tech facility operates without soil, heavy machinery, or pesticides. Instead, it relies on automation and advanced plant science to maximize output. Using precisely calibrated LED lighting and nutrient delivery systems, the facility produces up to 350 times more yields compared to traditional farms while using just 10% of the water — and it can be replicated almost anywhere.
The entire process — from planting seeds to packaging produce — is automated. From the moment a worker tips seeds into the sowing machine, robots take over. Nearly 80 plant scientists study best growing conditions for each plant, working with over 100 engineers who translate these findings into hardware and software solutions.
“Plants are really just little software programs,” explains one of the scientists. By studying plant DNA without changing it, scientists can program qualities like growth, flavor, and nutrition. For instance, exposing plants to blue light at specific growth cycles creates leaves with a satisfying crunch at harvest. The same principles can enhance antioxidant levels in vegetables by up to 40%. Since crops never contact soil, pesticides, or human hands, they require no washing — reducing both water waste and contamination risks.
One of the greatest threats to the natural world is habitat loss due to farmland expansion. If successful, farms like this could reduce deforestation while meeting food demands. Yet the high costs — including energy-intensive artificial lighting — may block global adoption, particularly in developing nations where infrastructure is limited.
Could this be the future of agriculture With its incredible efficiency, minimal environmental impact, and potential for worldwide replication, this high-tech farming model may soon become essential in feeding our growing world — if the challenges of scaling and affordability can be overcome.
28.What is the main feature of the innovative farming system
A. It demands water-free technology. B. It gets high yields with little input.
C. It is widely introduced in the world. D. It mixes old and new farming methods.
29.What is the scientists’ major role in the process of the farming system
A. They are gene editors. B. They are machine operators.
C. They are system monitors. D. They are plant programmers.
30.What may limit the worldwide spread of this farming system
A. Low public acceptance. B. Great farmland loss.
C. Poor production facilities. D. High energy demands.
31.What is the author’s attitude toward the future of agriculture
A. Optimistic. B. Critical. C. Indifferent. D. Doubtful.
D
Is the air we breathe safe This vital question often lacks clear answers due to outdated regulations and monitoring systems struggling to keep pace with rapid environmental changes. Pollutants from new sources — like wildfires at expanding urban-nature boundaries — are worsening air quality. Alarmingly, air pollution ranks as the second leading global cause of death, yet current standards fail to address modern threats. To safeguard global health, air quality frameworks urgently need modernization, advanced monitoring tools, and cooperative data networks.
A critical issue lies in updating the outdated Air Quality Index (AQI). Developed decades ago, the AQI tracks only a few pollutants identified in the 1970s, ignoring thousands of newer toxins(毒素) from modern industry, building materials, and urban fires. For example, during Los Angeles’ fires, the AQI would label the air “safe” once visible smoke thinned out, despite invisible toxins remaining from burning plastics and batteries. Such gaps highlight the AQI’s inability to reflect true risks.
Bacteria, fungi, and viruses — all categorized as airborne bio-particles (生物颗粒) — can also damage health, but studies on them remain inadequate. While some respiratory viruses like influenza draw attention, microorganisms from fires or industrial accidents are often ignored due to inconsistent research methods. In the face of such a situation, a global mapping system combining chemical and bio-particle data with real-time event tracking could tip the scales.
Existing tools also fail to quantify pollution jumps from urban fires or assess accumulated health impacts of mixed pollutants. Tragically, this mirrors past failures like post-9/11 air safety assurances, which later caused severe illnesses among first responders. Indoor air quality, responsible for 90% of urban exposure, can be improved with affordable filters (过滤器). Unfortunately, people failing to realize their advantages, these solutions are underused outside major crises like wildfires.
Progress depends on unifying separate data. Standardized agreements, open-access frameworks, and AI-driven systems integrating weather, health, and pollution data could establish baselines and identify high-risk pollutant combinations. Fair solutions demand global cooperation, especially as environmental protections face political challenges. By modernizing measuring devices, taking full advantage of existing technologies, and establishing inclusive partnerships, we may finally find out the answer to the question.
32. What is a major shortcoming of the current AQI system
A. It ignores indoor air pollutants. B. It depends largely on political bodies.
C. It struggles to take smoke into account. D. It fails to count modern toxic substances in.
33. What does the underlined part “tip the scales” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Provide a decisive solution. B. Cause confusion and debate.
C. Boost the adaptability of the data. D. Draw public attention to the issue.
34. What do we know about air filters according to paragraph 4
A. They are too expensive for daily use.
B. They’ve gained popularity among users.
C. Their effectiveness against toxins is unproven.
D. Public awareness of their value remains insufficient.
35. What is the main idea of the text
A. Current air quality systems require innovation.
B. Airborne bio-particles bring along serious threats.
C. Public education on air quality needs enhancement.
D. Economy plays a role in global air quality improvements.

Paris is an ideal travel destination with its food, wine, shopping complexes and sightseeing spots. 36 Actually it is possible to have a good time without spending a lot.
Forget the large international hotels in the centre. Instead, get off the main streets. There are many hotels just two blocks away from the main tourist attractions, which cost as little as US $35 a night each, including breakfast.
37 But who needs more when the point of the trip is to be out in the streets The real bonus is living among French people and experiencing their life.
Seek out small, local cafes when you want a meal. They are at every street corner in the less fancy parts of town. Choose from the fixed-price dinner menus posted outside these cafes. Many have prices as low as US $9 or US $10. Drinks with meals are more expensive, especially beer and quality wine. But there are some reasonable alternatives. House wine is good: perhaps a couple of dollars per carafe (喇叭瓶). Coffee, thick and lovely, costs US $2.50 a cup. 38
Getting around Paris is easy and inexpensive. Walking is the best way to feel the street-life but when you start to tire, take the train. Subway tickets for anywhere across the city cost around a dollar a trip and even less if you buy a multiple-ticket book. 39 All the maps and signposts are easy to understand.
40 Passes can be bought at major subway stations and elsewhere. The Louvre is an absolute must to visit. The Eiffel Tower gives a great view of the city for less than US $10. You can’t miss the street architecture, the surrounding atmosphere and the daily goings-on in Paris. More importantly, they cost nothing or little to explore and experience.
A. The system is quick and efficient.
B. The breakfast features a local flavor.
C. But some people are worried about the high cost.
D. The admissions to Paris’ attractions are not costly.
E. Quality wine and tasty food are tough on the budget.
F. The rooms with small bathrooms are clean and basic.
G. That totals less than $15 per person for dinner and drinks.

The karez is a 2,000-year-old underground water system from Xinjiang, showcasing China’s brilliant ancient engineering. This smart network of wells and tunnels 56 (bring) mountain water to deserts without pumps or electricity, which helps turn dry land into green farms, proving Chinese farmers’ 57 (wise) in fighting harsh nature.
The system is made up of three carefully engineered parts: vertical wells 58 (dig) for maintenance, underground tunnels built with a precise 0.1% slope, and surface canals 59 (deliver) water to farmlands. Believed to have originated during the Han Dynasty, the karez reflects early Chinese innovation. “It demonstrates 60 our ancestors solved problems creatively,” notes Dr. Li from the Turpan Museum. Today, around 400 karez systems remain in use, 61 (active) supporting 30% of Turpan’s famous grape farms.
62 modern water systems, the karez operates in harmony with nature. “Relying on gravity instead of power, it’s a model of sustainability,” explains farmer Ablimit. Impressed by its efficiency, UNESCO has recognized its 63 (ecology) importance since its inclusion in the World Heritage Irrigation Structures list in 2016.
More than just an engineering feat, the karez embodies Chinese philosophy. As visitor Wang Ying observes, “While ancient civilizations focused on building monuments reaching for the sky, the Chinese created underground networks designed 64 (support) life.” Still inspiring modern water management, this ancient system proves sustainable solutions can stand 65 test of time and that ancient innovations still hold valuable lessons today.

It was a cold, gray day when Frank Daily stood with his friends, waiting for the bus after school, his breath forming pale clouds in the bitter air. Frank only pretended to listen to the chatter of his friends, hiding the disappointment crushing his spirit. Basketball season had begun without him — his five-foot-four frame considered “insufficient” for the team. And the coach’s harsh words echoed in his mind, “Good skills, but we need height.”
Starting a new school wasn’t easy, especially for Frank, who had been a star athlete in elementary school. His mom used to say, “If you put as much time into books as into basketball, you could do well in both.” Well, maybe she was right about the books. Basketball, however, was a different story. Now he felt like a nobody.
On boarding the bus, Frank sank himself into the seat while his mind remained trapped outside the locker room. He could still feel the pain as he scanned the team list, searching desperately for his name and didn’t find it. The rejection hurt more than the biting cold, making him feel completely “invisible” in his new school.
A loud horn and a sudden stop interrupted Frank’s gloomy thoughts. The bus doors hissed open and a very pregnant woman struggled to get on by grabbing the metal handrail (扶手) with cold-reddened hands. As she dropped into the nearest seat with a sigh, Frank noticed she was only wearing torn, wet socks that offered no protection and warmth.
When the driver asked about her shoes, she explained with quiet dignity, “I can’t afford them. I just got on to warm my feet, if you don’t mind.” Hearing this, Frank was lost in thought. He knew he could always afford shoes. She probably never could. He looked down at his new basketball shoes—once an inspiring gift from mom, now a reminder of his broken basketball dream. Then he looked at the woman. The word “invisible” popped into his mind again: an invisible person, but for a different reason.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;

Ladies and gentlemen, Chinese brands like Huawei are illuminating(照亮) the world stage. Let us inherit (继承) this spirit and contribute to our nation’s brighter future. Thank you!
Good evening, everyone! With numerous Chinese brands making their way into the world market, they are growing in popularity and influence, making remarkable global impacts. And the one that stands out to me is Dajiang — an emerging drone-making company.
Based in Shenzhen, the company has dominated the global drone (无人机) market with its cutting-edge technology and forward-thinking vision (前瞻性的愿景) , greatly reshaping people’s lives. But what I admire most is their resilience to make one breakthrough after another in the face of the technology blockade (封锁) and the endeavors (努力) to remain in the lead with smart innovation, well interpreting (诠释) the idea of “Intelligent Manufacturing in China”.
Dajiang teaches me that true global influence comes from persistence in innovation and courage to challenge obstacles. I’m convinced that more Chinese brands will shine on the world stage! Thank you!
“无形”的对比: 故事中两次提到“invisible”。第一次是弗兰克因失败而感到自己被忽视;
Frank glanced at the lady’s wet socks and made a decision.Though the shoes were his last connection to his basketball dreams, the sight of her frozen feet left no room for hesitation. Without another thought, he bent down and began untying the laces. “Please take them,” he said softly, placing the warm shoes beside her damp socks. “I think you need these more than I do.” The woman stared in disbelief, too moved to speak. Tears welled in her eyes before she finally whispered, “Thank you, young man.” The other passengers fell silent, all eyes fixed on Frank with deep respect. An unexpected warmth spread through Frank’s chest, driving away the cold disappointment that had weighed on him all day.
“May I know your name ” she asked, and her voice was soft with emotion. Pausing at the bus door, Frank offered a shy smile, “Frank.” She smiled, “You have no idea how much this means.” Her words struck a chord in Frank’s heart. As he stepped off the bus, the cold pavement under his feet felt insignificant compared to the warmth growing within him. He no longer felt invisible. For the first time since the team list was posted, he felt seen and he knew that what truly made him matter was not his height, but his heart .

范文2
Frank glanced at the lady’s wet socks and made a decision. Without hesitation, he bent down and began untying the laces (解开鞋带)of his brand-new basketball shoes. He slipped them off, feeling the cold bus floor beneath his thin socks. Standing up, he held the shoes out to the astonished woman. “Here,” he said, his voice a little rough, “These might not be perfect, but they’re warm and dry. Please take them.” The woman stared at him, then at the shoes, her eyes wide with disbelief and sudden tears welling up.
“May I know your name ” she asked, and her voice was soft with emotion. The sting of rejection didn’t vanish(消逝), but it was suddenly joined by a quiet, unfamiliar sense of value and purpose.

W: Hi,dear! Where are you right now
M: I’m at the station. Unfortunately, I missed my train, so I’m going to be late getting home.

M:Well, you’re right. By the way, what are we having for dinner tonight
W: I’ve prepared chicken. It’ll be all done by the time you get home. Shall we say we’ll see each other around 6:30
M: I really hope I can make it. See you later.

W: Let me tell you something really interesting about Chinese painting. It’s awesome! Chinese painting mainly consists of people, landscapes, and birds-flowers. In the Tang Dynasty, paintings of people were really amazing. They were at the top-level at that time. Later, during the Song Dynasty, paintings of landscapes and birds-flowers became super famous. Everyone loved them. Fast forward to the 19th and 20th centuries, Chinese painters saw Western art. They thought it was cool and started to mix Chinese traditional ways of painting with Western ideas like impressionism and perspective. It was like making a new kind of art by putting old and new together. Now, Chinese painting is a great mix of the ancient and the modern. It’s so special and pretty. Art lovers from all around the world are looking at it. Chinese painting is really shining brightly these days!
