New Year’s Day is coming. Our school

We use the present continuous tense to talk about things that are ____________ (happening now, in the past).

现在进行时的含义
(1) I am reading in a library now.
(2) Jack is swimming now.
(3) Listen! They are singing an English song.
听！他们正在唱一首英文歌。
Jack正在游泳。
我正在图书馆读书。
1.现在进行时可以表示说话时正在进行或发生的动作。
★现在进行时常与now, at the moment等时间状语, 或look，listen等词连用。
(1) The students are studying Unit 8 this week.
2. 现在进行时也可表示现阶段一直持续的动作，但说话时动作不一定进行，常带有this week, these days等时间状语。
这周学生们在学第八单元。
(2) We are not working on a farm these days.
这些天我们不在农场工作。
(3) I'm writing a long novel these days.
我最近在写一部长篇小说。

How to make the -ing form of a verb
①大多数动词后加ing。

②以不发音的e结尾的动词，去掉e, 再加ing。

is not可以缩写为isn’t，are not可以缩写为aren’t，但是am not通常不缩写。

★一些表示感官、认知、情感类的动词常用于一般现在时，不用于现在进行时，常见词如下：
(1) I know the answer now.

Find some photos of New Year celebrations at your school or home. Write a short text about what people in the photos are doing, using the present continuous tense.
Look at these photos. Our class is having a show to celebrate the coming New Year. In this photo, some boys are doing some cleaning to make the classroom clean and bright, and some girls are drawing beautiful pictures on the blackboard to create the festival atmosphere. In that photo, Karl is playing the violin while Jenny and Lily are playing the flute. And some other girls are dancing to music. All of us are having a good time.
