(Text 1)
M: Hi Mum. The cycle path is closed for repairs, so I’ll have to take a bus home. But the bus stop is far from our home, so could you pick me up at the station
W: No problem.
(Text 2)
W: Could you give me a hand moving this machine, please I’m feeling tired.
M: Well, I’d rather not if you don’t mind. I hurt my left arm yesterday and I cannot really use it now.
(Text 3)
M: You look so excited, Mary. How was the party going last weekend
W: It was perfect. Tony took Joyce to a movie in the afternoon so my classmates and I arranged everything in the house, the food, the balloons, and the big birthday cake. You can imagine how surprised Tony felt at night.
(Text 4)
M: Linda, I need to speak with whoever is going to clean the floors later.
W: I have the number for their manager.
M: Thanks, I need to call him to ask them not to move anything around the laboratory.
(Text 5)
W: We need to talk about this school charity event. Mr. Andrew suggested organizing a concert, but I think that’s a lot of work.
M: I agree. And if we don’t sell enough tickets, we might lose money! I guess we could do a cake sale.
W: Well, that’s a safer option than a concert, but I’m not sure. What about a quiz night
M: That’s not a bad idea. It’s less work than a cake sale.
(Text 6)
W: There are so many jobs! Working in the news could be fun. What about being a TV reporter
M: Are you kidding Being a TV reporter seems kind of boring.
W: So what would you like to do
M: I think I’d enjoy writing for a newspaper. It’s more creative than being a TV reporter.
W: Yes, but a TV reporter earns more.
M: Maybe. You know, Berg wants to be a lawyer. I think helping people is more rewarding than working in the news.
W: Hmm. I like helping people, but I think I’d rather be a psychologist.
(Text 7)
M: I’m thinking about changing to another university, but I’m not sure. I’m hoping to get help from you.
W: OK. Why do you want to leave Kryptos University
M: Er, I’m thinking of going to Central University, because it’s in my hometown. I plan to work there after graduation.
W: I see. And would you keep the same major if you left
M: Yeah, I would. The credits I’ve earned here will move to Central. I’ve already checked.
W: Well, even though you can still have your credits here, you will have to take extra courses, because Central has different requirements.
M: Hmm ... I didn’t think about that.
(Text 8)
W: Ted, my mother is coming tomorrow. Could you help pick her up at the airport tomorrow
M: Tomorrow In the morning or in the afternoon
W: Her flight will land around 4:00 pm.
M: OK. I can make it. So what will you do then
W: I’ll go to the city library. I work part-time there.
M: Really So what are you mainly responsible for
W: Well, books become soiled after a very short time. I’m mainly responsible for cleaning the books. I’m also learning how to repair the torn books in my spare time. But sometimes I help others put the books back if they are busy.
M: Sounds interesting! Do you love the work
W: Certainly. It allows me to work on my own at a chosen pace. Though I get paid just 50 dollars a week, I love working there.
M: So do you work there every week
W: No, I work three weeks there a month.
(Text 9)
M: Ella, we have to make the decision about in which restaurant we are going to hold our office celebration.
W: Well, the Chestfield Hotel has good food. I’ve eaten there before. But it is five blocks away from here.
M: How much does it cost
W: Well, their set meals are very popular. I’ve got the brochure here. What about this Set Meal C is $50 a head, and that’s just within our price range.
M: Actually, Set Meal D looks better to me — more meat-based.
W: How much is it
M: Meal A is $70, B is $60, and so on, so D is even cheaper, at $45.
W: What’s the soup
M: Actually, all the meals come with soup. Meal A is fish soup, B is duck, C is clam — but ours is chicken.
W: Ah, I like chicken.
M: Now we need to decide the date now. What about the 14th
W: OK.
M: And that leaves the starting time. After work — 7 pm, 7:30 pm or 8 pm.
W: 8 pm is too late. Take the middle time.
M: Sounds fine by me.
(Text 10)
Hi, I’m here to give you some information about Worldwide Student Projects. It is a voluntary service organization. I’d like to tell you about some opportunities that are available.
There are three sorts of projects: short-term projects lasting two to three weeks; medium- term projects — between one and six months. Long-term projects last for about a year. One of the short-term ones we’ve got on offer now is in Japan. It’s a village improvement project, and the work involves clearing the river bank. You’d be working with local people, so you need a basic knowledge of Japanese for that.
The next one is a children’s holiday centre in Poland. You’ll be painting the rooms, gardening and generally preparing for the children’s arrival. It will last for six weeks.
If you are an animal-lover, there is a project for sea turtles in Mexico. Your job would be collecting and moving the eggs to a safe site. It’s a short-term project, and you’d be staying in a local school.
Finally, there’s a job available in a centre for disabled children in India. You’d be providing general medical care. It will last for six months.
And in case you do decide to apply, let me …

作文1
My Goal for the New Term
As a new semester begins, I have set a clear goal for myself: to significantly improve my overall English proficiency, with a special focus on writing and speaking skills.
To achieve this, I have devised a concrete plan. Firstly, I will read one English article daily to accumulate vocabulary and sentence patterns, and keep a journal in English three times a week to enhance my writing fluency. Secondly, to improve my spoken English, I plan to actively participate in class discussions and join the school’s English corner to practice expressing my ideas with more courage. Most importantly, I understand that consistency is key. I will review my progress every two weeks and adjust my methods flexibly.
I believe that through these sustained efforts, I will steadily advance towards my goal.
作文2
“Mom, what do I do now Please help!” says Manu weepingly. Seeing that Manu has learnt the lesson, Akhila clears her throat, “I can help you, but first tell me whether you have realized your problem.” At that, Manu’s face flames with shame, his head lowered. He stammers, “Mom ... I am wrong. I promise you will see a new Manu tomorrow.” Nodding with satisfaction / Seeing the regret in his eyes, Akhila tells him she will send him to school and Mrs. Mangat will give him another chance to take the test.
The scene the next day at the Khagal house is a little different. At 6, Akhila walks out of her room, only to find Manu packing his schoolbag! Everything ready, he goes up to Akhila and takes her hand, saying, “Mom, I will give the driver a surprise today.” Hearing the smile in his voice, Akhila nods approvingly and kisses him on the forehead. That morning, no hurry, no pestering and pampering, no continuous honking. It is the first time that Manu has tasted the fruit of discipline. He will taste it every day! (161 words)2025年下学期高一期中考试英语试题

Growing up, David Flink struggled (努力) in school though he was smart. He had a hard time focusing in class, and he didn’t understand why he couldn’t learn the way other students did. “I could either be the silent kid or I could be the bad kid. So, I started acting out,” he said. Flink was often asked to leave the classroom because of the trouble he caused.
“At one point, my desk was moved to the hallway,” he said. “But then I had this message sent to me that I didn’t belong (适应) in a classroom.”
It was in a hallway where Flink met his first mentor ( 导师), the school cleaner. “He got to know me, and finally we started playing chess,” Flink said. “There was no need for him to take an interest in my life, but he did anyhow. And that saved me.”
With the support of his parents and the right school, Flink graduated high school and went to Brown University. When he got to college, he found a community of students who also had learning differences. Together with five of them, Flink started a mentoring program for nearby primary school students who had a learning disability. They called the program Eye to Eye.

Eye to Eye’s curriculum (课程) uses art as a self-expression tool. Every lesson tries to move students from self-doubt to confidence.
While Flink enjoys hearing about the academic ( 学业的) success Eye to Eye brings to children, there’s something more he finds satisfying. “It’s satisfying when I hear that because they were in Eye to Eye, they now better understand somebody else's experience who’s different from them — this is what we need,” Flink said. “We have to love each other across our differences.”

The first week of September was a week that I had been expecting all summer. I didn’t want summer to end, but I was excited about going to high school for my first week.
When I got to school in the morning on the first day I realized how large the school was, and how many students went there. I ended up in the wrong classroom because of the size of the school. Luckily, a kind senior showed up and guided me to my homeroom before I was late. I was happy to see that in a class of unfamiliar (不熟悉的) faces, the only open seat was next to my good friend, Casey. My science teacher seemed like a good teacher. She was exciting and fun.
After finishing four periods without too much of a challenge, I didn’t feel too bad about ninth grade. However, the fifth period changed everything. I didn’t feel ready after all. My teacher’s name is Mr. Valassidis but he told us to call him Mr. V. Mr. V told us that we would have to write 40 essays (文章) and read AP-level books such as The Odyssey this year. I love reading and writing, but come on, 40 ESSAYS AP-level books Now I was afraid.
The courses in high school seem like they’re going to get much harder, but they haven’t yet. Even though my classes look hard, they look really exciting too.
The first week passed quickly. Although a lot of things were overwhelming (令人不知所措的): the size of the campus, the crowds (人群) and the seniors, having a totally different experience than I had ever had before was really exciting. Now, I’m really happy about high school. I have lots of friends in my classes, I really like my teachers and I’m meeting new people.

Vinny Donnelly, age 4, was all smiles while waving (挥手) goodbye to his action figures from the hit movies “Toy Story”, off to welcome a new school year, South West News Service (SWNS) reports. The touching scene (场景) was staged by dad Sean in the front doorway of the family’s home, referencing (参考) the scene in “Toy Story 3” when character Andy leaves home for college.
According to SWNS, mom Charlotte shared the wonderful pictures on Facebook, where they have reportedly become popular with thousands of likes and shares. “He’s a big ‘Toy Story’ fan and he has all the toys, characters and watches the films a lot,” Sean told SWNS. As for the heart-warming reactions (反应) to the photos, Sean explained that “if you have got kids you kind of know that feeling. Lots of people said that it made them cry. I tried to make it look dark inside where the toys were and light outside where he was. I wanted it to look like his future was bright.”
In a larger sense, the parent thought that returning to the classroom during the COVID-19 pandemic bears special difficulty and uncertainty. “It’s been quite tough for all children really this year,” Sean said. “It’s an unusual situation to be in and just starting school for Vinny has been strange for him.” After sticking by his mother’s side for five months, starting school will likely push Vinny “out of his comfort zone (舒适区) for a while,” his dad said. “Luckily, he is loving it so far,” Sean added. “His older sister Darcy is in Year 3 now so he has her to go with him.”
As his son begins a school year unlike any other, Sean is thankful to have got a moment of the all-important first day. “We will certainly blow some up and have the bigger pictures on the walls of our house somewhere,” he said of the photos. “It will be a great picture for him to have and look back on.”
32. What photos did Charlotte share on Facebook
A. Her son watching a movie. B. Her son leaving for school.

My Goal for the New Term
作文2
It is a cold winter Monday morning. Manu an eight-year-old is sleeping comfortably in his bedroom upstairs, at the Khagal house. Mondays are usually very difficult for him after a weekend break from his school. “Manu, wake up! It’s school time!” shouts out Manu’s mother Akhila, from the kitchen. Manu pulls the blanket over him and ignores his mother’s repeated attempts to wake him up. “Manu! It’s already 6 o’clock and your school bus will be here by 7. So please wake up and get ready. Manu continues sleeping.
Finally, after much pestering and pampering (纠缠和纵容), Manu gets out of bed and starts getting ready for school lazily. The school bus is already honking (按喇叭) in front of his house while Manu is brushing his teeth. Akhila requests the driver to wait for a few minutes. She quickly helps Manu get ready and helps him get to his school bus.
“Phew! Manu didn’t miss his bus today” Akhila sighs. She is really concerned about her son. Manu can’t do anything on time be it waking up in the morning or any of his daily tasks. Akhila thinks to herself “need to work out a plan to teach him a lesson in self-discipline (自律). Repeated advice and warnings haven’t changed him.
The next day it is the usual scene at the Khagal house except that there is no effort from Akhila to wake up her son.The time is 7. The school bus honks and Akhila, unlike her usual self, asks the bus driver to leave. There is unusual confidence on Akhila’s face. Manu finally wakes up at around 9 o’clock. He runs down to the kitchen and cries out “Mom! Why didn’t you wake me up The school bus has already left and I am really late for school today.” He cant stop crying. “I have a math test today and Mrs. Mangat will punish me if I miss her class and the test.” The calm face of Akhila makes Manu feel more anxious.
“Mom, what do I do now Please help!”says Manu weepingly.
The scene the next day at the Khagal house is a little different.
