When it comes to hiking, Greece has something for every kind of walker. The mainland boasts (拥有)well-maintained routes, while on the country’s islands you’ll find ancient paths dating back to Byzantine times connecting sleepy villages with beautiful sandy coves (小海湾). Here’s our pick of Greece’s best hikes.
Samaria Gorge(峡谷), Crete
16 kilometers(10 miles), 4 hours
Hiking the 16-kilometer Samaria Gorge is considered one of Crete’s must-do experiences, which is why you’ll rarely be without company. Nevertheless, there’s an undeniable raw beauty to Samaria, where vertical (垂直的) walls soar up to 500 meters and are just 3.5 meters apart at the narrowest point (150 meters at the broadest).
The hike begins at 1,230 meters at Xyloskalo just south of Omalos and ends in the coastal village of Agia Roumeli. It’s especially scenic in April and May, when wildflowers brighten the route.
Mt Ohi summit hike, Evia
8 kilometers(5 miles), 3 to 4 hours
The summit of Mt Ohi (Profitis Ilias; 1,398 m), lesser-visited Evia’s third-highest peak, is crowned by mysterious ancient dragon houses: 7th century BC architecture, made from rocks weighing several tons. From Myli, it’s an 8-kilometer hike to the summit (three to four hours).
It’s possible to stay overnight at the 1,000-meter-high refuge then hike up Mt Ohi to catch the sunrise(30 minutes), which makes for a magical experience. Contact South Evia Tours or Evia Adventure Tours for details.
Delphi to Kirra Walk, Central Greece
14 kilometers (9 miles), 3 to 4 hours
This 14-kilometer downhill hike follows a centuries-old pathway from historic Delphi to the ancient port of Kirra, just east of modern Itea on the southern coast of mainland Greece.
The hike starts from the E4 long-distance starting point 100 meters east of the Hotel Acropole. Skirting the village of Crissa, it goes to the gulf (海湾) through Greece’s largest olive garden. After your three-to-four-hour hike, and lunch or a swim, you can return to Delphi by bus (around 2 euros).
Hike to the Tomb of Kleobolus, Rhodes
5 kilometers(3 miles), 2 hours
An easy, enjoyable 5-kilometer(two-hour)round-trip hike escapes Lindos to reach the so-called Tomb of Kleobolus. Starting alongside Car Park 1 above the main beach, the route ends at a rocky hill topped by a circular tomb actually built during the 2nd century BC, long after Kleobolus ruled Rhodes.(408)

Elizabeth Keyton, originally from Georgia, the USA, married Arjun, a Malayali. She wanted to learn his mother tongue to strengthen their family bond. In the process, she created an Instagram page called “Elikutty” through which she now teaches Malayalam to thousands of people.
“I always loved hearing people speak different languages, but when my mother from Serbia spoke Serbian at home, my father showed no interest in learning it, leaving frequent misunderstanding and communicating problems. That’s when I decided that if I met someone from a different culture, I would try to learn his language, which would be good for us and our family,” says Elizabeth to The Better India.
“So when my relationship with Arjun started looking serious because of difficulties in communicating, I decided to learn Malayalam. However, I found that there weren’t enough resources to learn the language. Most books available were outdated or made for children. A small amount of material was often too difficult for casual (非正式的) language learners like me,” says the 35-year-old. “Later, I struggled to find a teacher suited to my needs and some grammar resources online.”
As an English teacher, Elizabeth used her teaching skills to learn Malayalam. She wrote notes and made doodles (涂鸦) to learn the letters. “For me, the best way to learn is by explaining it to someone else, so I made an Instagram page in 2018 to share my notes and small drawings,” she says. Starting out with 1,000 followers in 2018, her Instagram page has over 70,000 followers today. She is pleased to make learning Malayalam fun and easy.
“I have seen what happens when languages are ignored in my own house. My brother doesn’t know Serbian, which means his family won’t. It’s important to know English as it is a global language and helps when you go abroad, but the same respect should be given to native languages. They are the true way to a person’s heart.” says Elizabeth.(333)
56.Why did Elizabeth decide to learn Malayalam
A.To build a foundation for her career. B.To improve her relationship with Arjun.
C.To better communicate with her mother. D.To satisfy her interest in foreign languages.
57.What difficulty did Elizabeth meet during her learning
A.Rejection from her husband. B.Failure to find a native partner.
C.Lack of suitable learning resources. D.Inability to find a professional teacher.
58.What was Elizabeth’s Instagram. page used to do at first
A.Collect learning tips. B.Help her in self-study.
C.Practice small drawings. D.Teach others Malayalam.
59.What is Elizabeth’s opinion on language learning
A.Using social media as the primary tool. B.Respecting our inner thinking at all times.
C.Always putting the family’s common language first. D.Treating official languages and mother tongues equally.
60.What is the main purpose of this passage
A. To advertise Elizabeth's Instagram page
B. To discuss the difficulties of learning Malayalam
C. To tell a story about how language learning strengthened family bonds
D. To compare different methods of language learning

In our daily lives, we often hear about the benefits of exercise for our physical health. But have you ever wondered about its effect on our memory Well, a recent study from University College London has some interesting findings.
The researchers discovered that 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity, along with at least six hours of sleep at night, could potentially lead to an improvement in cognitive performance the following day. This means that activities like cycling to work or going for a brisk walk in the morning might not only make you feel good for the day but also have a positive impact on your memory the next day.
Previous studies on the short-term effects of physical activity were mostly done in laboratories and focused on short time frames. However, this new study observed the real-life physical activity of 76 adults aged 50 — 83, who did not have cognitive impairment or dementia. These participants wore an accelerometer for eight days to track their sleep and physical activity. They also took simple online cognitive tests daily to measure their attention, memory, and processing speed.
The results showed that each 30-minute increase in physical activity corresponded to a 2% — 5% increase in episodic and working memory scores the next day. But when sleep data was considered, only the working memory score improvement remained significant. The study also found that more sedentary behavior was associated with a drop in working memory scores, while getting enough sleep led to better scores in episodic memory and other aspects.
Despite these findings, the study had its limitations. The participants were generally well-educated and had good health and high levels of daily physical activity, which might not represent the entire population. Also, the exact reason why exercise affects memory the next day is still unclear, as the benefits from neurotransmitters are thought to be short-lived.
In conclusion, while we still have more to learn, this study suggests that staying active and getting enough sleep could be beneficial for our brain health and memory. So, let’s put on our running shoes and hit the sack early to give our brains a boost!(362)
61.What did the University College London study find
A.Any amount of exercise improves memory immediately.
B.Thirty minutes of exercise and proper sleep may enhance next-day cognitive ability.
C.Only intense exercise affects memory. D.Sleep has no connection to memory improvement.
62.How was this study different from previous ones
A.It involved a larger number of participants. B.It focused only on the long-term effects.
C.It only studied younger people. D.It was based on real-life activity tracking.
63.What were the participants asked to do in the study
A.Exercise for a fixed time every day. B.Wear a device and do cognitive tests.
C.Change their diet drastically. D.Avoid all sedentary activities.
64.What are the limitations of the study
A.The participants were all athletes. B.It didn’t consider the role of diet.
C.The participants had specific characteristics. D.It was too expensive to conduct.
65. What is the main purpose of the last paragraph
A.To suggest practical applications of the findings B.To criticize the study's limitations
C.To propose directions for future research D.To explain the physiological mechanisms
D
For centuries, we’ve pursued happiness and meaning. But what does that leave out As a social psychologist, I have dedicated my research career to a simple, but universal question: what makes for a good life, and how can we achieve it
For much of human history, we have been presented with two possibilities: pursuing a life of happiness, or a life of meaning. Each of these paths has its benefits, but decades of psychological research have also revealed their limits.
Ask the Danes and Finns, who consistently rank among the happiest people in the world, what their secret is and they’ll tell you this: lower your expectations and be content with what you have. It sounds good, doesn’t it But it leaves something out. It’s a bit like being a college student who only takes easy courses to be sure of getting good grades. Might there be more to life than simple pleasures and cozy comfort
Then there’s the meaningful life. We often imagine that meaning flows from trying to change the world like Steve Jobs. Once again, the research shows that lowering your sights and focusing on the little things can offer a more achievable sense of meaning. Often people find it in routines like taking care of family, or volunteering in the community. But there is also a dark side to the pursuit of meaning: researchers have found that it can encourage people to draw sharp lines between those who belong in their group and those who don’t.
My research lab mapped out a third route to fulfillment: psychological richness. A psychologically rich life is one filled with diverse, unusual and interesting experiences that change your perspective; a life with twists and turns; a life that feels like a long, winding hike rather than many laps of the same racing circuit. Such experiences can make us tougher. Not only that, embracing the pursuit of psychological richness can make us less likely to regret: it matters less if the thing you did went wrong.
Perhaps no one said it better than Eleanor Roosevelt: “The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear .”(363)
66. What is the main purpose of the first paragraph
A.To introduce the author's professional background and research focus
B.To criticize traditional views on happiness
C.To present statistical data on life satisfaction D.To compare Eastern and Western philosophies
67.What is revealed about pursuing happiness or meaning
A.Their benefits outweigh the limits. B.They are equally difficult to achieve.
C.Both paths have limits despite their benefits. D.Most people prioritize happiness over meaning.
68.What does the example of “a college student” show in paragraph 3
A.Gratitude is essential for a happy life. B.We should live up to others’ expectations.
C.Happiness requires academic achievement. D.Life means more than leisure and comfort.
69.What can be inferred from paragraph 4 about the pursuit of meaning
A.Its negative effect might weaken social unity in the long run.
B.It is more achievable through grand ambitions than small actions.
C.Volunteering is the most effective way to gain a sense of meaning.
D.People who pursue meaning often neglect their family responsibilities.
70.What is the author’s main purpose in writing this article
A.To promote Roosevelt’s life philosophy. B.To introduce a new concept of life fulfillment.
C.To criticize traditional psychological research. D.To compare different cultural views on happiness.

Alice Moore is a teenager entrepreneur (创业者), who in May 2015 set up her business AilieCandy. By the time she was 13, her company was worth millions of dollars with the invention of a super-sweet treat that could save kids’ teeth, instead of destroying them.
It all began when Moore visited a bank with her dad. On the outing, she was offered a candy bar. However, her dad reminded her that sugary treats were bad for her teeth. But Moore was sick of missing out on candies. So she desired to get round the warning, “Why can’t I make a healthy candy that’s good for my teeth so that my parents can’t say no to it ” With that in mind, Moore asked her dad if she could start her own candy company. He recommended that she do some research and talk to dentists about what a healthier candy would contain.
With her dad’s permission, she spent the next two years researching online and conducting trials to get a recipe that was both tasty and tooth-friendly. She also approached dentists to learn more about teeth cleaning. Consequently, she succeeded in making a kind of candy only using natural sweeteners, which can reduce oral bacteria.
Moore then used her savings to get her business off the ground. Afterwards, she and her father secured their first business meeting with a supermarket owner, who finally agreed to sell Moore’s product — CanCandy.
As CanCandy’s success grows, so does Moore’s credibility as a young entrepreneur. Moore is enthusiastic about the candy she created, and she’s also positive about what the future might bring. She hopes that every kid can have a clean mouth and a broad smile.
Meanwhile, with her parents’ help, Moore is generally able to live a normal teenage life. Although she founded her company early on in life, she wasn’t driven primarily by profit. Moore wants to use her unique talent to help others find their smiles. She donates 10% of AilicCandy’s profits to Big Smiles. With her talent and determination, it appears that the sky could be the limit for Alice Moore.

Development of Transport in China
From the vehicle of horses to today’s convenient transport, Chinese transport has seen enormous development. Chinese transport has undergone remarkable transformations, giving the Chinese people access to different ways of travelling.
Firstly, shared bicycles have emerged as a symbol of urban mobility, offering an affordable and green alternative for short trips. Secondly, the introduction of high- speed trains has dramatically shortened travel times, making intercity travel faster and more comfortable. Lastly, the proliferation of new energy vehicles underscores China’s dedication to environmental sustainability, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
