Why do We Yawn(打哈欠)
Do you yawn There are about 20 reasons that scientists think are possible for yawning after research. They do not know exactly why yawning happens, but they do know many facts about yawning.
We know that everyone yawns in the same way. First you open your mouth slowly. Your mouth stays open for about five seconds. You take in a lot of air and then push it out. Then you quickly close your mouth. We also know that yawning is contagious. When you see someone yawn, you yawn, too.
Many people say they yawn because they are bored or tired. That might be true. People do often yawn before they sleep and after they wake up. However, we know that people also yawn when they are excited or nervous. Olympic runners, for example, often yawn before a race. Why is that In 2007, scientists found that a yawn can help a warm brain cool down.
Some scientists believe that yawning makes you notice things more quickly. When you yawn, you breathe deeply. You also stretch (舒展) the muscles(肌肉) in your face, mouth, and neck. Your eardrums stretch, too. Maybe this helps you to be quicker to notice things.
In some countries, people think yawning is not nice. People put their hands over their mouths to cover a yawn. In other countries, people think yawning is healthy. They think that opening the mouth very big can let good things in. When they breathe out, they think that bad things go out of the body with the air.
Scientists do not spend much time studying yawning. That is probably because yawning does not hurt. It is just something we do.
9. What does the underlined word " contagious" in Paragraph 2 mean
A. Able to spread quickly. B. Able to breathe easily.
C. Able to change easily. D. Able to sleep quickly.
10. What is the main idea of Paragraph 5

C. Disadvantages of yawning. D. Different ideas about yawning.
11 What can we probably infer from the passage'
A. People use different ways to yawn
B. Scientists will do further research on yawning.
C. It's hard to notice things quickly while yawning
D. Some scientists think yawning is good for people
12. What would be the best structure of the passage

A five-month-old bird became a world record holder by flying around 13,560 kilometers without stopping in 11 days. The bar-tailed godwit (斑尾腾鹬) took off from Alaska, the United States, on October 13, 2022 and landed in Tasmania, Australia, on October 24. The old record was set in 2021 by a different bar-tailed godwit. The adult flew about 13,050 kilometers to Australia.
The new record holder carried a 5G GPS chip (芯片), so its first migration(迁徙) could be followed by scientists. The bird flew mostly over the open Pacific Ocean to reach Tasmania. According to Eric Wochler, an expert at BirdLife Tasmania, the journey was very dangerous. “If a godwit lands on water because of tiredness or bad weather, it will die, because it has no way of getting off the water,” he said.
Adult godwits begin their migration up to six weeks earlier, so it was impossible for the young bird to have followed more experienced adults south. Godwits usually migrate in groups, but the researchers aren't sure yet if the bird finished there record-breaking journey alone or as a part of a group.
During the trip, the bird flew over a few islands which could give it a chance to eat and drink. But for some reason, it just kept flying. This may have to do with a special talent of bar-tailed godwits. They are able to shrink some parts of their body so that there will be enough space for fat. When they land and start to eat, those parts will grow again. Such ability is really helpful when they make long trips over the sea.
13. What can we learn about the new record holder
A. It flew 11 days without stopping. B. It was an adult bar-tailed godwit.
C. It broke the record set in 2020. D. It flew about 13.050 kilometers.
14. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A. Adult godwits always lead the younger to the south.
B. Not all godwits migrate at the same time.
C. The record-breaking bird was more experienced than others.
D. The record-breaking bird finished the journey by itself.
15. The underlined word "shrink" probably means “ ”.
A make something cleaner B. make something warmer
C. make something stronger D. make something smaller
16. What is the best title for the passage
A. The bar-tailed godwit's ability B. 5G GPS chips for birds
C. A record-breaking journey D. A special talent of bar-tailed godwits

However, large cities and industries that are located upon rivers often make problems. As the cities grow in size and industries increase in number, the water in the rivers becomes polluted.
