That evening Holmes again wore different clothes, and a large black hat. But it was not just the clothes that were different. He changed his face, his hair—everything. He was a different man.
We walked together to Serpentine Avenue. Outside the house there were a lot of people who were smoking, laughing and talking. Holmes and I walked up and down in front of the house.
“You see,”said Holmes to me, “I don‘t think she wants her new husband to see the photo. But where is it At her bank No. Such a woman likes to keep important things herself. I‘m sure it‘s in her house.”
“But the King‘s men tried to find it!” I said.
“Yes. But they didn‘t know where to look for it!”said Holmes. “But how will you know ”I asked. “She‘ll show me. She‘ll have to.”
Just then Irene‘s taxi arrived. One of the men in the street ran to open the door and then another man pushed him. Other men were also pushing and shouting, and a fight began. Irene was in the middle of it, but Holmes ran to help her. Then suddenly he fell to the ground, with blood running down his face. Irene hurried to her front door, but she looked back. “How kind of him to help me! Is the poor man hurt ” she called.
“He‘s dead,”cried some voices. “No, he‘s only hurt,”cried others. “Bring him into the living room,”she said.
Some people carried Holmes into the house. I waited outside the window and watched. I saw how beautiful Irene was. Then Holmes put up his hand, and I threw the smoke-stick into the room. “Well done, Watson,”he said. “Have you got the photo ”I asked.
“I know where it is. She showed me,”he answered. “But why did she show you ”
“It‘s easy,”he said, and laughed. “You saw all those people in the street I paid them to help us. It wasn‘t a real fight and the blood wasn‘t real. When people shout ‘Fire!’, a woman runs to the most important thing in her house, her baby, her gold, or…a photo. Irene ran to find her photo which is in a cupboard in the living room. I saw it. In the coastal city of Laguna in Brazil, there is a special fishing team. It is made up of human fishers and dolphins! They work together to catch the fish — mullet, which is also dolphins‘ favorite food.
Mauricio Cantor from Oregon State University said “The dolphins are really good at finding fish in the dirty water and herding them to the coast, and the fishermen are really good at catching the fish with their nets.”
Cantor‘s study described how fishermen and dolphins give signals to each other during fishing. When dolphins find fish, they herd them to the coast. Then they arch (拱起) their backs in front of the fishermen to tell them to throw nets. Fishermen will then throw the nets right away, or they may lose the best chance. Once the fish are caught in the nets, dolphins can move in and get some for themselves.
Fishermen need to be well-trained to understand the signals from dolphins, said Cantor. The study found that fishermen are 17 times more likely to catch fish by working with dolphins. At the same time, cooperative dolphins have 13 percent higher survival rates (存活率) than other dolphins.
Human-animal partnerships aren‘t common throughout history because humans may get hurt by animals. But they also “give us an idea of how positive our human interactions can be with nature,”said Bruno Diaz Lopez from Dolphin research institute in Spain.
13. What can we infer about the dolphins‘role in the fishing team from Paragraph 2 and 3
A. They can only help catch mullet because it is their favorite food.
B. Their ability to find fish in dirty water is more important than fishermen‘s netting skills.
C. They actively “cooperate”rather than just act on their own for food.
D. They arch their backs to ask fishermen for help when they can‘t find fish.
14. Why does the cooperation between fishermen and dolphins benefit both sides according to the passage
A. Fishermen get more fish easily, and dolphins have a better chance of survival.
B. Fishermen save time on training, and dolphins avoid being hurt by other sea animals.
C. Fishermen can sell more mullet, and dolphins get extra food from fishermen‘s rewards.
D. Fishermen don‘t need to use nets, and dolphins can find fish faster with fishermen‘s help.
15. What is the key reason that the special fishing team in Laguna can last for a long time
A. The mullet is enough for both fishermen and dolphins to share.
B. Both sides can understand each other‘s signals and get what they need.
C. The local government supports this kind of fishing method.
D. Fishermen teach dolphins how to herd fish and send signals.
16. Based on the context of the passage, what does the underlined word “herd”most likely mean in English
A. To drive the fish together in a group.
B. To protect the fish from being caught.
C. To swim alongside the fish peacefully.
D. To follow and watch the fish carefully.

Continually challenge yourself to try something new. ___ 19___ Artistic growth can be a bit painful. Welcome to the club; we‘ve all been there. I love taking on challenges. I once took up a challenge to create a painting every day for a month and post the works online.
___20___ Seeking and accepting constructive feedback (反馈) is crucial to growth. I post my work on social media and, in turn, have met some of the kindest people. They make me feel valued and respected, no matter my level of artistic ability.

Should music be played between classes
This morning the students in my class had a discussion about whether music should be played between classes.
Some think listening to music between classes is a good idea. Music can make them feel happy and relaxed. Music can make their lives colorful. However, others are against the idea. They think music may have a bad influence because some music is too noisy and they may get too excited to take a break.
In my opinion, it’s good to play some soft and peaceful music instead of loud noisy music during the class break. In this way, students can enjoy music as well as having a good rest. Besides, I suggest playing music that is suitable for middle school students.(102 words)
