I will finish high school soon, and of course I'm thinking about the big question:what next?
Maybe it's a bit late to start thinking about this, but that's how I am.I think I'll do well in my exams,so maybe I'll go to university or college to get more qualifications(证书)—but I've been asking myself if it's better to just find a job and start a career(职业生涯).On the other hand,if I do go on to study further, should I do it right away or perhaps take a year off-a "gap year"?
Helpful advice and ideas,please!Thanks.
Amy posted 28 minutes ago
Hi,John.I'm doing a gap year right now.I saved some money and went to Thailand, but after two months of 'holiday',I got bored and the money was running out. Then I found a volunteer medical organization that helps people in poor areas of the country and they let me join as a driver. Now I'm working, trying to learn Thai (I spend up to an hour a day practising with friends) and learning a lot about myself.I've made a decision, too - when I go home,I'm going to study medicine,to be a doctor or a nurse. So my advice?Do a gap year, but don't just travel around - do some volunteer work somewhere. For me, it's been life-changing.
Pauline posted 1 hour ago
Hi there! Here's my advice.Do what feels right for you now,but keep an open mind and be prepared to change. Some of my friends set off to travel after school, but I didn't have the courage.I just went to university. It was OK.and I was having a good time. Then one day an old friend from school phoned me and said he was going to start an online company and asked me to join him.I considered for a long time. Then I gave up the university course and went to work with him.It was the best thing I had ever done.I didn't plan to leave university, but I took the chance to try something different, and I don't regret it.

四、任务型阅读-简答:本大题共1小题,共12分。
28.I can feel the joy when people hold doors for me,pour cream into my coffee,or help me to put on my coat. And I've noticed that when someone helps me,their eyes light up too—it's like we both get a little happiness gift.
From my wheelchair experience,I see the best in people almost every day,but sometimes I feel sad because those who seem independent miss the chance of feeling the kindness. They rush through life, carrying heavy bags alone or refusing help when they're tired. They don't get to see this soft side of others often.Sometimes,we try every possible way not to show our weakness.
Last month, when I was driving home on a busy road,I began to feel unwell and drove more slowly than usual.People behind me began to get impatient and angry. Some sped up beside me,horning(按喇叭) or even shouting at me.At that moment I decided to do something I had never done in 24 years of driving.I put on the car flashlights(警示灯) and drove on at a really low speed. No more angry shouts and no more horns.
When I put on my flashlights,I was saying to other drivers,"I'm not feeling well, please be patient."And everyone understood.Several times,I saw drivers who wanted to pass. They couldn't get around me because of the stream of passing traffic. But instead of getting impatient and angry, they waited, because they knew the driver in front of them was in some way weak.
So,is it always right to wear a mask of strength? My story on the road that day and all the days in my wheelchair have taught me something different—a lesson I wish everyone could learn.
