Dear David,
How are you these days Today I’m going to tell you something between me and my good friend. Last year, my good friend Carlos invited me to his birthday party. At his party I saw my first pinata (彩罐). It looked like an animal and was full of candies. People put it on the ceiling (天花板). Carlos hit (打) the pinata until it broke. All the candies fell on the floor, and we had a great time eating candies. Everyone shared. It was fun!
Carlos’s birthday party also got me thinking about how kids in other places celebrate birthdays.
Did you know that in Vietnam kids do not celebrate birthdays Instead, on New Year’s Day, all the kids celebrate their birthdays. Parents give kids red envelopes with lucky money in them.
In South Africa, kids do not celebrate every birthday. However, on their 21st birthday, their parents make a key. It can be made of paper or wood. Parents give their child this key. It is a sign from the parents that the child can now “unlock the door to their future life”.
In Japan, children get a new set of clothes on their birthdays. While in Italy, adults pull children’s ears—one pull for each year.
My friend Carlos also helps me to know more in many other ways. Do you have such an experience with your friends

Everyone loves a good holiday. But what makes a holiday truly wonderful Here are some ideas from a survey of 1000 students.
First, many students said trying new activities is important. This doesn’t mean you have to travel far. You could try new things near your home, in your local park or at home. These new experiences make holidays more interesting.
Second, most students agreed that spending time with family and friends is important, too. Holidays are a great time to make your relationships strong. Play games together, share stories, or just talk. These moments often become our favorite memories.
Finally, about 70% of the students pointed out that helping others can bring special joy. You could visit old people in your community or help clean up a park. Helping others not only makes them happy but also makes you feel good about yourself.
