Explore Peru
If you want to travel in Peru, here are some places for you.
Amazon Rainforest Tour
A short flight from Cusco takes you from the Andes into the Amazon rainforest. From there, you’ll spend one day travelling by boat to your accommodation in the middle of the forest. You can then spend three days exploring the rainforest with a local guide and enjoying the plants and animals unique to the rainforest.
Machu Picchu Tour
This four-day walking tour will take you on amazing paths through the Andes Mountains on the way to the city of Machu Picchu. After reaching your destination, you will have a day to explore and be amazed by this ancient city. Especially amazing is the Incas’ dry stone method of building. Inca builders cut stones to exact sizes so that nothing was needed to hold walls together other than the perfect fit of the stones.
Cusco Tour
Spend four days enjoying the unique Spanish and local Indian culture high in the Andes at Cusco, the capital of the Inca Empire from the 13th until the 16th century. Stay in a local hotel, visit the museums, admire the architecture, enjoy the excellent local food, and go shopping at the local markets.
Lake Titicaca Tour
Enjoy the beautiful countryside as you spend a day driving along the new highway connecting Cusco to Lake Titicaca. There, a boat will take you to stay with a local Uros family on an island for three days. Both the island and the Uros homes are made of water plants from the lake.
So come and experience what Peru has to offer: everything from the ancient Inca culture and centuries-old Spanish villages to deep rainforests, high mountains, and a beautiful coastline.

Recent research has shown remarkable conservation (保护) outcomes from community-based management (CBM) in the Amazon. Rather than relying only on government agencies, local people take responsibility for protecting fisheries and lakes. Their work has expanded protection far beyond the lakes, covering forests and upland areas important for many species.
In Amazon alone, about 15 million hectares of forest have thus been protected. The costs are low, but the benefits are great: Fish numbers have gone up again, and animals such as giant otters, manatees, and Amazon river turtles have also increased. These achievements highlight the special strengths of local people. Permanently present in these landscapes, they have the strongest interest and ability to keep resources safe, becoming the “unsung heroes” of conservation. The model also shows a good mix of scientific knowledge and traditional practice: while protecting biodiversity (生物多样性), it also increases family income through sustainable harvests.
However, there are challenges. At present, all the costs are dealt with by the volunteer watch groups themselves. Depending only on unpaid work cannot last long. To solve this, systems such as Payments for Environmental Services (PES) should be used so that communities can be properly paid.
The researchers urge greater recognition and financial support from governments and civil society. Supporting community-based conservation is not only an ecological necessity but also a matter of social justice (公平). By empowering those already engaged in frontline conservation, society can safeguard biodiversity, strengthen local economies, and ensure a better future for the next generations.
8. What can we learn about CBM in the Amazon from paragraph 1
A. It relies completely on government.
B. It is led by international organizations.
C. Its work only focuses on lake protection.
D. Its nature protection work is done by local people.
9. What can be inferred from the second paragraph
A. Forest protection requires high costs.
B. Fish numbers keep falling with efforts.
C Local efforts bring low-cost success.
D. Animals rise as forests keep disappearing.
10. What problem does the CBM model face
A. Shortage of basic training.
B. Dependence on unpaid work.
C. Lack of local interest.
D. Disagreement among experts.
11. What would be the best title for the text
A. A New Path for Protection
B. Community Life in Amazon
C. Forests at Social Risk
D. Challenges Beyond Science

A Memorable Trip in Chiang Mai
Last summer vacation, my family and I went to Chiang Mai, Thailand(泰国). The city’s colorful temples and busy night markets surprised us. On the third day, I wanted to visit a small village by myself. I took a tuk-tuk (三轮小摩的) to get there, but after walking around the rice fields, I found I was lost. The sun was going down, and I couldn’t see any signs I knew. I felt worried and a little scared, because I didn’t speak much Thai.
Just when I was almost crying, an old woman with a big smile came to me. She had a basket of fresh mangoes(芒果). We could only talk with simple English words and hand movements, but she understood my problem. She took my hand and led me to her small wooden house nearby. Her family was nice to me. They gave me sweet mango sticky rice and cold coconut water. I learned they grew fruits and vegetables in their garden, and they told me stories about their daily life.
Time passed quickly, and it got dark. The old woman’s son said he could drive me back to my hotel. On the way, I looked at the bright stars and the quiet countryside. I felt very warm in my heart. This unexpected thing made my trip more special than any famous places.
When we got to the hotel, I tried to give them some money to say thanks, but they said no politely. The old woman patted my shoulder and said, “Friendship is more valuable than money.” I nodded, too moved to speak. I hugged her softly and said I would visit them again someday.
