Today we went on a school trip to a farm! It was tiring but great fun! In the morning, we explored the farm. There were large tents with tomatoes, cucumbers, and many other fruits and vegetables. The farmer told us about how these fruits and vegetables go from the fields to our tables. I was very interested because I usually only see them in the supermarket.
Then we got straight to work! First, we picked some strawberries. The work seemed easy, but it took time to get it right. Slowly, we filled many baskets with strawberries. In the afternoon, the farmer taught us how to cut branches and leaves from tomato plants. This helps them to grow more fruit . Finally, we watered the plants. Plants need so much work! Did you know that birds, bees, butterflies, and even bats can be pollinators (传粉者) Animals that are pollinators fly from flower to flower to find food. Some pollinators eat a flower’s pollen. Pollen looks like dust on the flower. Some pollinators drink nectar from flowers. Nectar is a special sugar water that some plants make.
No matter what they’re eating, when pollinators go from flower to flower, they do important work. They spread pollen from one flower to the next. This spreading of pollen is very important for plants, animals, and even people. They help plants grow bigger and stronger. Flowers need their pollen to spread in order to make new seeds (种子) and fruit. Some of those new seeds will grow into flowers in the future. Some of the seeds and fruit are food that wild animals can eat. And some seeds and fruit are also food for people.
People need pollinators to help our food to grow. Nearly one of every three types of our food depends on pollinators. Foods like almonds, apples, and even coffee beans need pollinators to grow. But some pollinators are in trouble. They are dying out for many reasons. One main reason is that people used poison on some insects (昆虫) and certain plants.
People used to think all insects were pests (害虫). So they would spray plants with a special type of poison to keep insects away. Some people also sprayed poison on plants like weeds (野草). They thought all weeds were bad. The poisons killed many plants that are important to pollinators.
One example of a weed that was killed by poison is milkweed. Milkweed is an important plant for monarch butterflies. Monarch butterflies are pollinators, and they lay their eggs on milkweed. When their eggs hatch (孵化), caterpillars come out. The only leaves the caterpillars eat are milkweed leaves. But many poisons killed milkweed. This caused the number of monarch butterflies to drop. Groups of people worry they may all die out.
Now, people are trying to help pollinators like monarch butterflies. People are planting many kinds of flowers, trees, and shrubs. They are planting flowers that bloom at different times of the year and plants that are native to their area. This is helpful because pollinators need food to eat all throughout the growing season.
Pollinators help flowers, trees, and shrubs make seeds and fruit. Seeds and fruit give animals and people food. And now, people are helping pollinators! By working together, people and nature can help each other.
74.What work do pollinators do
75.What effect do pollinators have on plants when they spread their pollen
76.What could happen if there were no more milkweed plants for monarch butterflies to lay their eggs on
77.How can we help pollinators

One of the most surprising trees in the world is known as the baobab (猴面包树). This kind of tree mainly grows in South Africa and Australia.
Sometimes, it is hard to tell what the name of a tree is because they look like each other. But this is not a problem with the baobab. Its appearance is quite different, so people can’t mistake it for another tree. The baobab is very wide. People often enjoy the shade (树荫) under it. One Australian baobab was so large that people were able to turn part of the tree into a small room. The tree itself was so strong and wide that it could hold a large group of people. The strongest tree in the world is over 1,835 years old now.
People also call it the “giving tree”. The tree’s fruits are very delicious and a tasty treat in many African countries. The fruits are also very healthy and people make porridge (粥) and soft drinks from the fruits. Since the tree grows in dry environments, it has to store water. The tree soaks (浸泡) in water when the weather is wet. During dry seasons, the baobab tree can use the stored water. Some baobabs can store thousands of gallons (加仑) of water and people can get the water from the trees when they need it.
Sadly, in recent years, the baobab trees are dying because of climate (气候) change. Scientists are trying hard to take action to save them.
78.Where does the baobab tree mainly grow
79.Why is it not hard for people to tell a baobab from another tree
80.How does the baobab tree store water when the weather is wet
81.Why are the baobab trees dying in recent years

Plants are very important living things. Life could not go on if there were no plants. This is because plants can make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals and man can’t make food from air, water and sunlight. They get their food by eating plants and other animals. So animals and man need plants in order to live. This is why we find that there are so many plants around us.
If you look carefully at the plants around you, you will find that there are two kinds of plants: flowering plants and non-flowering plants.
Flowering plants can make seeds. The seeds are covered by the fruits. Some fruits have one seed, some have two, three or four, and some have many seeds. But non-flowering plants do not grow flowers. They can not make seeds. Their seeds are very small and light. Wind can carry them to different places.

We all know that people can talk. What about plants A team found plants can also “talk”! Scientists heard their sounds.
The team recorded (录制) tomato plants at different times. It showed that the plants made ultrasound (超声波). The plants made little “clicks” and “pops”, but these sounds were too weak for humans. Scientists could only hear them with the help of a computer.
As the team studied the sounds, they started to find some interesting facts. Plants made different sounds at different times. They seldom made sounds when they had enough water. But when the soil got dry, they made more sounds. It’s like they are saying, “Water, please!” The team also found that plants made sounds when they got hurt. When the team cut a leaf from the plants, the plants also made sounds. But these sounds weren’t the same as when the plants needed water.
The team developed a computer AI system (系统). They used it to tell different kinds of sounds. It was able to find the difference between thirsty (口渴的) plants and plants with cuts. Maybe one day we can use these sounds to find out a plant’s problem. That can be helpful to farmers.
The team’s finding changes our ideas about plants. Even in a quiet field, plants are making sounds. They are telling us how they feel with sounds. We just need the right tool to listen. And those sounds carry information and may help us a lot. Isn’t nature amazing
