高效作业 27 [选择性必修第三册 Unit 1 Art]
Ⅰ.阅读理解
When I was a little girl,I liked drawing, freely and joyously making marks on the walls at home. In primary school,I learned to write using chalks. Writing seemed to be another form of drawing. I shaped individual letters into repeating lines, which were abstract forms, delightful but meaningless patterns.
In secondary school, art was my favourite subject. Since I loved it so much I thought I was good at it. For the art O-level exam I had to present an oil painting. I found it difficult, but still hoped to pass. I failed, with a low grade. I’d been over-confident. Now I’d been declared talentless.
But other channels of creativity stayed open: I went on writing poems and stories. Still,I went to exhibitions often. I continued my habitual drawing, which I now characterised as childish doodling(乱画). In my 30s,I made painter friends and learned new ways of looking at art. However,I couldn’t let myself have a go at actually doing it. Though these new friends were abstract painters using oil paints,or were printmakers or sculptors,I took oil painting as the taboo(禁忌) high form I wasn’t allowed to practise.
One night,in my early 40s,I dreamed that a big woman in red approached me,handed me a bag of paints, and told me to start painting. The dream felt so authoritative that it shook me. It was a form of energy, giving me back something I’d lost. Accordingly,I started by experimenting with water colours. Finally,I bought some oil paints.
Although I have enjoyed breaking my decades-long taboo about working with oil paints,I have discovered I now prefer chalks and ink. I let my line drawings turn into cartoons I send to friends. It all feels free and easy. This time around,I can accept my limitations but keep going.
Becoming a successful painter calls for being resolute. I realised I was always afraid of wanting too much. That dream reminded me that those fears and desires could encourage me to take risks and make experiments.

In today’s fast-paced world, where screen time is a fact of life, the thought of taking your kids to an art gallery—and letting them actually enjoy the experience—might seem a thankless and impossible challenge. 1.________ Surely a child won’t have the patience to stare at something outside the screen.
In fact, art galleries serve as invaluable educational and instructional resources. They invite young viewers to interpret and connect with the artwork on a personal level. This exposure not only broadens their artistic horizons but also encourages them to appreciate different ways of seeing the world. So art galleries are packed with nutrition for mind, heart, and soul. But many kids are picky eaters, and take galleries as appetising as yesterday’s porridge. 2._______
Allow your children to fit in on their own terms. Who said that walking around a gallery had to be slow and methodical, stopping to look at every picture 3.________ If they want to head straight for a certain display,it’s no big deal. If something catches their eye on the other side of the room, far away from the Picasso in the spotlight, that’s absolutely fine.
What really matters is that children build a connection with art. 4.________ Involve older children, either with or without a reward,in simple quizzes such as,“Who can guess the artist ” or “Who can identify the period it was made ”
5.________ Ask questions such as,“What exhibit did you find most exciting or boring ” or “How did that painting make you feel ” and discuss your different impressions of the same works. As an added bonus,it will deepen the connection between you and your children. By taking this approach, art is no longer dull but something alive and relevant to young people, and even a rewarding and fascinating pursuit that will last a lifetime.
A.You can make it into a game.
B.How can they find enjoyment
C.It always enhances their interest.
D.Instead,let them control the pace.

A diet high in protein is often promoted as part of a healthy lifestyle, and many diets encourage consumers to reduce fats in favour of protein to lose weight and gain lean muscle.
For the study in Nature Metabolism,Bettina Mittendorfer and colleagues found that while increasing the proportion of protein in daily calorie intake is beneficial, consuming protein too much not only can’t add to the development of lean muscle but also can cause unintended negative health effects.
“Consumers are being led to believe that they can never get too much protein in their diet,” says Mittendorfer. “However, our research shows that specific amino acids(氨基酸),which are the building blocks of protein, can trigger heart disease through a signalling mechanism at the cellular level in the blood.”
An amino acid found in animal-protein foods, such as beef, eggs, and milk, was found to be responsible for signalling activity in cells that typically clear away rubbish in blood vessels. As consumption of dietary protein increases,so does the consumption of leucine(亮氨酸),the specific amino acid responsible for triggering this cellular activity in the blood.
When functioning normally, these cells work to keep blood vessels free from plaque(动脉斑块) buildup. When their production becomes overactive, the resulting accumulation of spent cells in the vascular system can cause the plaque buildup and blockages they are supposed to prevent. The resulting hardening of the arteries(动脉) is a leading risk factor for heart attacks and stroke.
“Our hope is to eventually find the Goldilocks approach for maximising the health benefits of dietary protein, such as building lean muscle, while avoiding the health drawbacks from overconsumption,” says Mittendorfer.
The researchers found that consuming more than 22% of daily calories from protein carries more downside risk than dietary benefit. For a normal adult,20 to 30 grams of protein per meal,or 60 to 90 grams of protein per day is adequate to support health.
The study combined human trials with experiments on mice and cells.
( )4.Which of the following is the finding of the research
A.It is beneficial to take in protein in daily diets.
B.A diet high in protein is always considered as a healthy lifestyle.
C.Many consumers are in favour of protein to lose weight and gain muscle.

A.The plaque buildup.
B.Animal-protein foods.
C.The hardening of the arteries.
D.Overactive cellular activity in the blood.
( )6.What is the proper way to make good use of protein
A.To take in proper amount of protein per meal.
B.To exercise every day in order to build lean muscle.
C.To consume more than 22% of daily calories from protein.
D.To do more experiments in mice and cells to provide evidence.
( )7.What do we know about the study

高效作业 29 [选择性必修第三册 Unit 3 Environmental Protection]
Ⅰ.阅读理解
Not much trash and almost no plastic actually gets recycled. About a third of US garbage gets recycled, according to the Environmental Protection Agency’s most recent estimate. The rest goes to landfills, which release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and pollute their surroundings.
To make recycling easier, many US cities don’t ask Americans to separate paper, glass, metal and plastic. They just ask people to put anything recyclable into one bin and let waste plants do the sorting. But waste plants don’t catch everything. AI is now an essential tool for the world’s waste management leaders. Greyparrot,a tech company has already installed more than 100 AI trash spotters in about 50 sorting facilities.
Greyparrot’s device is,basically,a set of visual and infrared(红外线的) cameras hooked up to a computer, which monitors trash as it passes by on a conveyor belt and labels it under 70 categories, from loose bottle caps to books to aluminum cans. Waste plants could connect these AI systems to sorting robots to help them separate trash from recyclables more accurately. They could also use the AI as a quality control system to measure how well they’re sorting trash from recyclables. That could help plant managers adjust their production lines to cover more recyclables,or check that a bundle of recyclables is free of pollutants, which would allow them to sell at a higher price.
In the next few years, some recycling companies plan to retrofit(改良) thousands of material-recovery facilities with AI trash-spotting tools. Of these companies,Bollegraaf has built thousands of these facilities, including 340 in North America, accounting for a majority of the recovery plants in the world.
The trash-spotting computers could one day help regulators punish companies that produce tons of non-recyclable packaging because the AI systems are so accurate that they can identify the brands on individual items. Putting the AI tools in thousands of waste plants can raise recycling percentage. If the needle can be moved by even 5 to 10 percent, that would be a phenomenal outcome for greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impact.
( )1.What does the author want to show in Paragraph 1
A.People pay little attention to environmental protection.
B.Greenhouse gas is a major contributor to air pollution.

( )2.How does Greyparrot’s AI system work
A.By working with sorting robots.
B.By adjusting the production line.
C.By monitoring the conveyor belt.
D.By controlling cameras in a computer.
( )3.What can be inferred about AI tools in the last two paragraphs
A.They are well received.
B.They are highly profitable.
C.They have unpredictable prospect.
D.They present a challenge for regulators.
( )4.What can be a suitable title for the text
A.The Use of the Useless
B.AI Assistants in Recycling
C.A Pressing Trash Issue in the US
D.AI Tools with Great Potential

A team of researchers looked at a decade’s worth of responses to an online survey about morals and analysed how these responses changed from one season to the next. Their findings suggest that,at a population level, people are less likely to endorse(赞成) more traditional moral values in summer and winter. The researchers relied on data from a website called YourMorals. org, which offers a “moral foundations questionnaire” where respondents can rate how strongly they agree or disagree that something is right or wrong.
The questions were based on moral foundations theory to explore why morality seems to follow similar patterns across populations from very different cultures. According to the theory, morality can be broken down into five foundational values—care, fairness, loyalty, authority, and purity—and these belong to two groups: individualising values and binding values.
The seasonal pattern in response was not evident for all types of values. For instance, individualising values, focusing on the morality of individual rights, showed little variation over time and didn’t follow a seasonal trend. However, binding values that prioritise the needs of one’s group, including loyalty, respect for authority, and purity of tradition—followed a biannual pattern.
To attempt to better understand the results, the researchers also looked at patterns in Google search results related to anxiety. What they found was that population-level patterns in anxiety also followed a seasonal cycle peaking in the spring and fall, which suggests a potential correlation(关联). Spring and fall are often thought of as the most pleasant seasons,so an increase in anxiety during these times might seem unexpected. Volunteering at a food shelter when she was 14,and tasked with helping fill boxes for households in need with canned and packaged food, this Iowa teen felt that something was missing from the donated groceries: fresh vegetables. So she shared with her parents her desire to start a garden on their own farm to supply local families in need with fresh produce.
Coming from a farming family,Lauren had some familiarity with agriculture, and had helped raise rabbits and lambs, but had never tried vegetable cultivation at scale, though the Schroeders plant soybeans and corn each year on their 150-acre farm.
