October's Night Sky: What Sky Watchers Saw
October 2025 offered a fantastic series of celestial events for sky watchers. From a brilliant supermoon to shooting stars, here is a review of the highlights.
Prime View of a Neighbor
On October 2, the Andromeda Galaxy (M31), our closest galactic neighbor, was at its highest point around midnight. Under dark skies, it was visible to the naked eye. That same night, the dwarf planet Ceres was also at its brightest, making it an ideal night to observe both.
The Harvest Supermoon
October's full moon, rising on October 6, was called the“Harvest Moon” as it was the closest full moon to the autumn equinox (秋分). It was also a“supermoon”, appearing larger and brighter because it occurred when the moon was at its closest point to Earth.
Shooting Stars in a Dark Sky
The peak of the Orionid shooting-star shower on October 21 occurred during a new moon, meaning no moonlight affected the view. This created perfect conditions to see their extremely fast and bright shooting stars, which were broken pieces of the famous Halley's comet.
A Rare Glimpse of Mercury
Mercury is usually hard to see due to the sun's glare. But on October 29, it reached its greatest separation from the sun from our view. This made the days around this date the best time to look for the planet low in the west just after sunset.
21. What was a special feature of the full moon on October 6
A. It was called the“Hunter's Moon”.
B. It appeared larger and brighter than usual.
C. It could be seen only through a telescope.
D. It rose at the same time as the Andromeda Galaxy.
22. When was the best time to see Mercury according to the text
A. Late at night on October 15. B. Around noon on October 29.
C. In the early morning before sunrise. D. In the early evening around October 29.
23. Who is the text most probably written for
A. Researchers studying the solar system. B. Science teachers planning their lessons.
C. astronomy enthusiasts interested in sky. D. News reporters covering celestial events.

Small plastic particles in water have become one of the most concerning consumer pollutants because they are widely found in various water sources. A Chinese research team has developed a new method to remove these microplastics, which negatively affect human health.
A study published on Saturday in the journal Science Advances introduced a new reusable and biodegradable foam that can capture microplastics in water with an efficiency of up to 99.8%in its first use. Researchers from Wuhan University and Huazhong University of Science andTechnology used a sustainable fibrous foam made from chitin(几丁质) from squid bone and cellulose(纤维素) obtained from cotton. This foam has a hole- filled structure that can attract and interact with various types of microplastics commonly present in electronics, food packaging, textiles, and other industrial products.
The team tested the foam's performance using water samples from four real- world sources—— irrigation water, lake water, seawater, and pond water—— to prove its effectiveness in natural water environments. In initial tests, the foam captured nearly 100% of microplastics. After five usage cycles, the removal rate of this plant- based material still exceeded 95%, demonstrating excellent reusability. According to the study, the material's capturing ability is largely unaffected by inorganic particles, heavy metals, organic pollutants, or microorganisms in the water.
“ Microplastics entering land- based and aquatic environments will continue to increase for thousands of years due to the alarming amount of plastic waste in the environment,” said DengHongbing from Wuhan University, the corresponding author of the study. Deng added that the research indicates plant- based materials could offer an economical solution for addressing the complex issue of microplastic pollution in water.
The research team has already filed a patent for this technology and hopes to introduce it into real- world water treatment systems or household water purifiers in the near future.
28. What enabled the new foam to achieve 99.8% initial removal efficiency
A. Its cellulose film. B. Its squid- bone frame.
C. Its hole- filled structure. D. Its biodegradable property.
29. The researchers tested the foam in water samples from four real- world sources to .
A. compare the pollution levels of different water bodies.
B. prove its effectiveness in simulated laboratory conditions.
C. identify which water source contains the most microplastics.
D. verify its performance in natural and complex aquatic systems.
30. What can be inferred from Deng Hongbing's statement about plant- based materials
A. They can provide a highly cost- effective approach.
B. They are the only solution to microplastic pollution.
C. They are too expensive to be widely used at present.
D. Their effectiveness is limited to specific microplastics.
31. What is the research team's attitude towards their technology
A. Uncertain and hesitant. B. Pessimistic and doubtful.
C. Confident and ambitious. D. Indifferent and disconnected.
D
Ever feel consistently behind on everything Juggling work, social life, and basic needs often pushes us toward burnout. A powerful tool to counter this chaos is the Eisenhower Matrix. This systematic framework assists in categorizing tasks based on their urgency and importance, thereby facilitating effective priority management.
The matrix is structured into four distinct quadrants(象限) for task evaluation.
● )Do It (Important and Urgent): These are your top priorities, like handling a pressing work deadline or an urgent household issue.
●)Decide/ Schedule It (Important, Not Urgent): These are significant tasks without immediate deadlines, such as buying a birthday gift for next month. You should schedule these for later.
●Delegate It (Urgent, Not Important): Tasks that need prompt action but don't require your personal touch, like mowing the lawn, can be assigned to others, freeing up your time.
● )Delete It (Not Urgent, Not Important): These are mere distractions, like endless social media scrolling, and should be removed from your list.
By providing a clear structural framework for evaluating your workload, this method not only reduces stress but also systematically ensures that your primary focus is directed toward truly crucial tasks, thereby boosting productivity by minimizing time spent deciding what to do next.Furthermore, it encourages asking others to help with tasks when possible and helps cut out time-wasting distractions.
Applying the matrix involves a straightforward process. Begin with a brainstorm to list all tasks. Subsequently, sort these items into the four quadrants. Immediately address“Do It” tasks, then schedule time for important but not urgent tasks. Actively delegate the urgent but unimportant ones and consciously drop the tasks that offer no value. Remember to review and adjust your matrix regularly as new tasks arise.
While this tool won't erase all stress in the process, it empowers you to break your to-do list into intentional chunks. This helps you feel more in control and less overwhelmed, finally allowing you to stop running around and start directing your time and energy purposefully.
32. What is the main purpose of the Eisenhower Matrix
A. To replace traditional to-do lists with a digital tool.
B. To help people finish all tasks as quickly as possible.
C. To encourage people to work harder and longer hours.
D. To reduce stress by sorting tasks with a clear structure.
33. According to Eisenhower Matrix, which of the following is correct
34. What is the most likely result of reviewing and adjusting the matrix regularly
A. It will remove all stress for good.
B. All urgent tasks will eventually disappear.
C. It stays useful and keeps you on what matters.
D. People will stop receiving new responsibilities.
35. Which of the following would be the best title for the article
A. How to delegate Everything and Do Nothing
B. Eisenheimer Matrix: The Secret to Zero Stress
C. A digital tool That saves You Time Every Day
D. Master Your Tasks with the Eisenheimer Matrix

In a world full of divided opinions, one question stands out to divide us more than any other:is it better to shower in the morning or before going to bed at night 36 Some stick firmly to mornings, others swear by nights. No matter which group you' re in, you might often wonder if your choice truly affects your long- term health.
Advocates of morning showers say a 10- minute hot water shower helps them wake up. 37 It's their way to feel refreshed and ready to start the day—— whether that means heading to work or doing daily chores. They believe that this small, consistent act sets a positive tone that helps make their entire days feel more manageable.
38 They argue that showering before bed is less about energy and more about cleanliness and relaxation. Think about all the dust from crowded subways, pollutants from city air,and sweat from a long- day walk. Without a shower, these end up rubbing against your skin all night and creating an unclean sleep environment.
Science tells us more about skin health. Every square centimeter of your skin has 10,000 to one million bacteria, most of which are harmless but some can cause smelly scent. 39 Sweat itself has no smell, but certain bacteria produce smelly chemicals. This might make evening showers seem like the cleaner choice.
Yet the truth is more complex. Primrose·Freestone, a microbiologist, notes that even if you shower at night, you' ll still sweat overnight—— up to half a cup! You' ll also lose those sweat and skin cells onto your sheets, which dust mites(尘螨) love to feed on.
So, is morning or evening better There is no standard conclusion. Experts agree that if you shower once a day, the time barely impacts health. 40
A. Most people fall into one of two clear camps.
B. The answer is that a morning shower is better.
C. Evening baths, though, have a different view.
D. It all comes down to what makes you feel comfortable.
E. It also leaves them feeling energetic instead of worn out.
F. These bacteria feed on oil from your sweat glands(汗腺).
G. This keeps dirt and pollutants from getting into your bed.

In 2013, Emma Carey, a 20- year- old Australian, jumped from a plane high in the sky overSwitzerland. The equipment that was supposed to slow her fall broke. At the same time, the experienced jumper with her was hit and stopped moving. Emma fell very fast and landed heavily on the ground. The crash injured her back badly, and she could no longer feel or move her legs. In the years that followed, this brave young woman did not give up. She forgave the man who was with her, slowly learned to live with her new body, and even wrote a book about her life, The GirlWho Fell From the Sky.
Ten years later, Emma returned to that same field in Switzerland, this time with her best friend, Jemma. They came back to finish the trip that had been cut short by her accident.“I don't want people to only see me as ' the girl who fell from the sky',” she told Jemma.“There is more to my story than that.” As she spoke, her fingers touched a special necklace she wore. It had her life motto written on it,“If you can, you must.” She raised her arms high, not as a victim of her past, but as a victor of her present.
A few weeks after returning home, Emma received a special invitation: she was asked to give a speech on a big stage to share her story. But as she started writing down her ideas, she began to worry.“What if everyone only thinks about the girl who fell, and not the person I have become ”Seeing her friend's worry, Jemma gently squeezed Emma's hand. Then she made a funny face at her——a special, silly expression they had shared since they were young. It always made Emma laugh. Seeing Jemma's face, Emma smiled. She began to think that this speech might be her opportunity to tell the world her whole story.

Hello, everyone. It is an honor to represent our group in summarizing our discussion. What we firmly believe is that traffic convenience comes at the cost of invaluable things.
First, it reduces our physical activity, as people prefer driving to walking, which harms our health. Second, it causes environmental damage: vehicle exhaust pollutes the air. Finally, we are losing meaningful social interactions. Streets that were once lively spaces for community life are now filled with rushing cars.
In conclusion, it is our sense of community, environmental health, and personal well-being that we are sacrificing. We must seek a balance to preserve these precious aspects of life.

Paragraph 1
The night before the speech, Emma's fingers found her necklace in the dark. Tracing the words,“If you can, you must.” memories of her long recovery flooded back. The old worry whispered in her heart,“What if they only see the girl who fell ” But what she had experienced brought a wave of calm strength to her. Slipping the necklace around her neck, she opened her laptop, deleted the line“I fell from the sky,” and typed with new determination,“I didn’t just fall——I got back up.”
Paragraph 2
On stage with confidence, Emma found Jemma's funny face in the crowd. The sight deepened her certainty.“Yes, I am Emma,” she began, and her voice was clear and strong as she spoke of choosing to forgive, to write, and to build a new life. She held up her shining necklace.“My story isn't about the fall, but about choosing to move on. That's because my life motto always guides me.” Thunderous applause filled the hall. Seeing Jemma's tearful and joyful face, Emma was sure that she was now the master of her own life, no longer a victim of her past.

M: That's understandable. Let me grab your package from the back room for you. If you would like, I can have someone bring it to your car.
