A better self
Hello, everyone!
Today, I am honored to share my experience with you.
Once, I was terrified of speaking English in public. My voice would shake and I’d forget words even if I practiced well. I almost gave up, but my teacher encouraged me to try step by step.
I started with reading English aloud every morning and joining the English corner. When I felt nervous, I took deep breaths and told myself “I can do it”. Slowly, I became more confident.
This experience taught me that facing fears bravely is the first step to growth. No matter how hard it is, never give up. We all can become a better self with effort.

Want to know what your friends are really like Take a look at their music playlist. More than 36,000 people, from all over the world, took part in an experiment( 实 验 ). The results show that personalities do influence what we listen to. Here’s what certain musical styles say about who you are.
Rock Like the sound of loud guitars and heavy drum beats This type of music sounds very exciting, but fans of it are often quite gentle.
Country music If cowboy hats and guitars get you singing along, it’s possible that you’re hard-working, preferring traditional styles and values.
Jazz If you think you are creative and are good at learning, then you probably like the saxophone of John Coltrane.
Classical music If Beethoven and Mozart have you turning up the music, you’re probably quiet, but happy with who you are and comfortable with the world around you.
But the experiment didn’t tell the whole story: where we grow up, who we often go out with, and our personal experiences play into our taste, too. No matter what style you like, music is for everyone. So just enjoy different types of music!
( )44. What influences our musical taste according to the experiment

There are many colours in nature. But do you know if a colour has weight I think you’ll say “No”. But I am afraid you are wrong. If you don’t believe, you may do a small experiment.
First, put two objects with the same weight into two boxes. Then cover the box. Third, wrap one box with a red piece of paper, the other with a white piece of paper. OK. Now hold the boxes with your hand one by one. It is certain that you will think the red one is a little heavier.
Why do you think so A scientist found different colours have different weight in a man’s mind. So he did many tests and at last he got the result. That’s to say, every colour has its own weight in our mind and the order is the same. The heaviest colour is red, then blue, green, orange, yellow and white.
The scientist told us that colours also have smell. Can you smell the colour Of course not. Then why did the scientist say so That is because every colour stands for a kind of light with a certain wavelength (波长). It reaches our brain through sense organs (感觉器官).
According to this discovery, scientists say that people accept the colours they like, and refuse the colours they hate. So your body and mind will be healthy by using the colours you like. Or you’ll be nervous or even get ill. For example, if you stay in a room with red windows, wallpaper and furniture for two hours, you’ll feel you have been there for four hours. But if the room is blue, you’ll feel you have been there for only an hour. That means our body temperature will change with different colours.
( )47. In people’s mind, different colours have different weight. Orange is heavier than_________.
A. blue B. red C. yellow D. green
( )48. The purpose of the second paragraph is to .
A. give an example B. list numbers C. explain reasons D. make a comparison(对比)
( )49. What does the underlined “it ” refer to
A. the smell of the colour. B. the light with a certain wavelength.
C. the weight of the colour in our mind. D. the sense organ itself.
( )50. What would be the best title for the passage
A. How can we weigh an object B. Do colours have weight and smell
C. Are colours really good for our health D. The relationship between weight and smell.
