People start new businesses for different reasons. Sometimes they have a great idea. Other times, they decide to make a living by doing something they enjoy. For Eli Reich, his business began when someone stole his bike bag.
Reich was an engineer in Seattle. Because he cared about the environment, he biked to work every day. He carried his work and his laptop in a bike bag. When someone took his bag, he tried to buy a new one. But he couldn't find one he liked. So he decided to make his own. Riding a bike every day leads to lots of tire punctures. As a result, he had plenty of used inner tubes in his apartment. Inner tubes are the inside part of a bike tire. They are soft, flexible, and feel like leather; they are also waterproof-so things inside won't get wet even on rainy days, which are all perfect qualities for a bag.
His friends loved his new bag. Soon, his bike bag was in great demand. Reich quit his job and started his own business-Alchemy Goods. At first, he depended on his friends for inner tubes. But business was good, and he quickly ran short of these tubes. He needed a new supply. So he asked local bike stores to send him used inner tubes instead of throwing them away. To date, he has used over 300,000 inner tubes.
Each bag uses as many recycled products as possible. Reich's goal is to use 100 percent recycled materials. Reich emphasizes that he uses recycled materials, but he creates high-quality products. Recycling turns waste into reusable things. Upcycling transforms waste into a better quality product. Alchemy Goods bags are not cheap. Each bag is handmade. Using recycled materials keeps the cost down, but labor is expensive. Each bag sells for around $130.
Creating a business out of other people's trash is a growing trend. Reich joins thousands of small business owners who are taking advantage of the trash that Americans throw away every year.
24. Why did Reich start his business
A. His concern for the environment. B. The theft of his bike bag.
C. His dislike of his engineering job. D. His friends' encouragement.
25. The underlined word "waterproof" probably means ________.
A. easy to wash B. simple to make C. quick to dry D. able to keep water out
26. Where does Reich get most of his materials now
A. From his friends. B. From new factories.
C. From local bike stores. D. From his own collection.
27. What can we learn about Reich's bags
A. They are high-quality and handmade. B. They are cheap and mass-produced.
C. They are mainly sold to his friends. D. They are made from 100% recycled materials.

On the evening of April 8, Dunhuang Academy and a high-tech company jointly launched a brand-new technology-driven tour experience at the Mogao Grottoes. Using the high-tech company's newly-released Hetu artificial intelligence platform, coupled with the output of the Digital Dunhuang project, visitors to the Mogao Grottoes can enjoy a fantasy experience prior to entering the attraction.
Zhao Shengliang, director of the Dunhuang Academy, said that it has been cooperating with the high-tech company since March 2019. Using its latest Hetu technology, visitors are able to see the detailed contents of the Dunhuang Art Murals (壁画) outside the caves, through their company's mobile phones. This will reduce the time tourists spend inside the cave, aiding the protection of the cultural relics, while at the same time helping to increase the amount of information visitors can obtain. It is also considered to be a new way of promoting Dunhuang Art.
The Dunhuang Academy has used digital technology to preserve the research and exploration of Dunhuang Grottoes since the early 1990s. It has collected a wealth of data and has realized the goal of sharing of digital Dunhuang globally. It has played an important role in the protection and research of cultural site, as well as promoting the development and progress of related work.
The Hetu platform unites Dunhuang's study findings, high-resolution images of the site's murals and virtual, three-dimensional models with the real Mogao Grottoes. It has not only recreated the real tour of the scenic spot, but also developed a new way of digitally experiencing the grottoes. When people visit the site, they not only have the experience of seeing the real grottoes, but they can appreciate the admirable artworks more clearly and in greater detail.
In the future, Dunhuang Academy will continue to cooperate with the high-tech company to create more colorful virtual content to enrich the experience of Mogao Art on the platform, helping people around the world get to know Dunhuang Art better.

Studies show that multitasking can make people slower and less accurate due to something called attention residue (残留)-where part of your brain is still thinking about the previous task when you change into a new one. Each time you change tasks, you need to refocus and avoid distractions. This increases cognitive load (认知负荷) and reduces performance.
However, doing one task at a time isn't always best. Research by Sophie Leroy found that when people are under time pressure, they focus more narrowly and make simpler decisions. This lowers mental complexity, clears attention residue, and helps them move to the next task.
Multitasking is most difficult when tasks are similar. For example, talking on the phone while writing an email is hard because both require forming sentences and expressing ideas. But if the tasks are very different, multitasking becomes easier. You can combine an automatic task (like walking or eating) with one that requires more attention. Mixing easy and hard tasks helps people multitask effectively.
In some cases, multitasking can even improve performance. A 2015 University of Florida study had people ride exercise bikes while doing mental tasks. When compared to doing the same tasks while sitting, participants cycled 25% faster without doing worse on the mental tasks. This suggests that physical activity may increase brain arousal (兴奋) and improve both physical and mental performance.
There may be another advantage to multitasking. Researchers from the Chinese University of Hong Kong asked people to do a computer task that involved searching for visual information while also responding to helpful sounds. They found that those who often used three or more media at the same time were better at combining what they heard and saw. This skill can help people react better in real-world situations where they need to process information from multiple senses at once.
32. What did Sophie Leroy's research find
A. Multitasking increases cognitive complexity.
B. Multitasking significantly improves correctness.
C. Attention residue makes it hard to start a new task.
D. Time pressure helps people make simpler decisions.
33. Which of the following is an example of manageable multitasking
A. Driving while checking a map. B. Walking while having a conference call.
C. Watching a movie while writing a report. D. Reading a book while listening to the news.
34. How can multitasking improve performance
A. By increasing brain activity. B. By improving memory.
C. By reducing cognitive load. D. By balancing task difficulty.
35. What can we infer about people who often multitask
A. They are more sensitive to visual information.
B. They might be better at media-related work.
C. They can adapt to any new environment easily.
D. They are better at dealing with multiple senses at the same time.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)

Teach others to learn
Have you ever explained a hard idea to a classmate Did you find that you understood it better after teaching This is called "teaching to learn". It works better than many old-style study methods. 36 But many students do not know how powerful it is. Actually, teaching others brings several key benefits to your own learning journey.
37 When you need to explain a topic to someone else, you can't just rely on vague (模糊的) ideas in your head. You have to pick out key points, connect related concepts, and present them in a logical order. This process helps you spot gaps in your own understanding that you might have missed when studying alone.
Teaching also helps strengthen knowledge through repetition. When teaching something to someone else, a person has to basically go over that material multiple times, until the other person understands it. 38 The more you go over it, the more long-lasting your understanding becomes.
Another advantage is that teaching helps you see a topic from different angles. 39 Then you have to look at the topic differently to find the answer. This helps the learner. It also opens your own mind. You move from a shallow understanding to a deep one.
You do not need to be an expert to teach. Even small teaching moments matter. 40 You can lead a study group for history. You can explain a science experiment to your younger sibling. Every time you teach, you make your own learning stronger. So teaching is not just being kind-it is a powerful way to learn for yourself.
A. You can help a friend with math.
B. Teaching forces you to organize your thoughts clearly.
C. But teaching may push them out of their comfort zone.
D. It improves critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
E. The learner may ask a question you never thought about.
F. This practice firmly settles that knowledge in your own memory.
G. This special way of learning helps both the student and the teacher.

第四部分 书面表达(满分25分)
Dear Chris,
It was great to hear from you. Learning that you're interested in my recent trip, now I'm writing to share my wonderful traveling experience.
I visited Hangzhou with my family! We spent three days exploring this beautiful city. The highlight was boating on West Lake while watching the sunset and the view was absolutely breathtaking. We also visited Lingyin Temple, an ancient Buddhist temple surrounded by lush forests. Of course, I couldn't resist trying the famous Hangzhou dishes like Dongpo Pork and West Lake Fish.
What impressed me most was how the city perfectly blends natural beauty with cultural heritage. This trip not only helped me understand local culture better but also gave me precious time to bond with my parents away from our busy schedules. It was a wonderful break. How about you I'd love to hear about your recent adventures!
Yours,
Li Hua

W: Certainly, sir. We have an overnight train that leaves at 9 p.m.
M: How long does it take to get there
W: About twelve hours. If you'd like, you can choose a sleeper on the overnight train, which is not expensive at all.
M: Yeah, I think that is a good option. Do you serve food on the train
W: Yes, of course. There is a dining car where they serve meals at all times. We do provide free water and coffee for all of our passengers.
M: Great! I'll take it.
W: Here you are, sir. Your train leaves from platform number eleven at 9. Remember to be here at least thirty minutes before the departure time or else you might miss your train!
M: I understand. Thank you very much!
W: Have a great trip.

(Text 10)
M: Hi, everyone. I'd like to tell you what our class did to celebrate World Environment Day. First, the headmaster gave a presentation about the dangers the environment is facing nowadays and what each of us can do to protect it. Then our history teacher divided our class into three groups. Each group had a teacher as a leader. I was a member of the first group. We spent over two hours going around the neighborhood putting up posters about environmental protection. It was very cold and we got very tired, but we all felt very proud of ourselves.
The second group was responsible for cleaning the streets around the school. They picked up all the rubbish on the streets, and they also put two rubbish bins at the school gate. The third group was asked to plant flowers in the schoolyard. When they grow, I'm sure our schoolyard will look very beautiful. When we all finished what we had to do, we gathered in the schoolyard again. The headmaster and our teachers thanked us and gave each of us a bag made of waste paper.
