All winter on the farm, Wilbur watched over Charlotte’s egg sac (卵囊) like he was protecting his own children. He made a special place in the manure (肥料) for the sac. On very cold nights, he lay so that he would warm it. For Wilbur, nothing in his life was so important as this small, round object. Patiently, he waited for the end of winter and the coming of the little spiders. The winter ended at last.
“I heard the frogs today,” said the old sheep. “Listen, you can hear them now.” Wilbur stood still and raised his ears. From the pond came the voices of hundreds of little frogs.
“Springtime,” said the old sheep. “Another spring.” As she walked away, Wilbur saw a new lamb following her. It was only a few hours old.
The snow melted and ran away. The river sounded with rushing water. A sparrow arrived and sang. Almost every morning there was another new lamb in the sheepfold. The goose was sitting on nine eggs.
One fine sunny morning, Wilbur stood watching his precious sac. He wasn’t thinking of anything much. Then, he noticed something move. He stepped closer and watched closely. A tiny spider crawled (爬) from the sac. It was no bigger than a grain of sand, no bigger than the head of a pin. It looked just like Charlotte. Then, two more little spiders crawled out. Then three more little spiders. Then eight. Then ten…Charlotte’s children were here at last. He said hello to them and told them their mother had saved his life.
Wilbur never forgot Charlotte. Although he loved her children and grandchildren dearly, none of the new spiders ever quite took her place in his heart. She was one of a kind.

①In the story Snow White, the queen decides to kill Snow White with an apple with deadly poison (毒药). Thanks to some helpful dwarfs and a handsome prince, Snow White recovers, and everyone lives happily ever after.
②But the queen didn’t need to go to all that trouble. In fact, apples—along with many common fruits we eat—are already poisonous!
③Apple trees belong to a plant family. This group also includes peaches and cherries. The seeds (种子) and pits (核) of all these fruits have a chemical called amygdalin (苦杏仁苷). Inside an animal’s stomach, amygdalin turns into a strong poison called cyanide (氰化物). Cyanide can make people and animals very sick, or even kill them.
④However, don’t worry if you eat a few apple seeds by chance. Each seed has only a little poison. You’d have to eat a large bowl of seeds to feel any effect. Bes des, you’d need to chew (咀嚼) them well—the hard, shiny coating of apple seeds keeps the poison locked inside.
⑤Uneaten seeds usually pass right through and come out whole in your waste. But cows and other animals often chew them up along with the fruit, so they can get sick from eating apples and peaches that fall to the ground.
⑥Why would a tree make poisoned seeds To stop animals from eating the seeds, amygdalin tastes terrible. It’s also found in leaves and other parts of fruit trees. If a cow chews on apple leaves, it experiences an awful taste and an upset stomach. So animals soon learn to leave those trees alone. Thanks, amygdalin!
⑦Want to try it You can bite (咬) into an apple seed, and you’ll notice an awful taste. That’s the amygdalin. The apple tree doesn’t want you to chew up its seeds. It wants you to spit (吐) them out, so they can grow into new trees.
⑧Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who’s the cleverest fruit of all
32. Why does the author mention the story of Snow White in Paragraph 1
A. To compare fairy tales with science facts. B. To question the queen’s actions.
C. To catch readers’ interest and introduce the topic. D. To explain why apples are special.
33. Which of the following can match the information in Paragraph 3
A. B.
C. D.
34. What does the underlined word “them” refer to
A. Fruits. B. Apples. C. Leaves. D. Apple seeds.

阅读下文并回答问题。
Who are your close friends at school Do you think that everyone should have a “close friend” Some students share their opinions on the 21st Century Teens Junior’s website.
Jack, 13 years old I think everyone needs friends. However, it’s up to you to decide how many close friends you need. Friendship is like a cup of hot chocolate. Some people enjoy sharing it with many, while others like drinking it with just one or two. Besides, it’s not important to have someone on the same road with you. More importantly, you need to become a better and happier self along the way. You can have many close friends, or just a few, as long as you feel happy and meaningful.
Emma, 14 years old There’s a saying: “If you have friends who know your heart, distance cannot keep you apart (海内存知己,天涯若比邻).” I think this is true. Having a close or true friend is very important. My best friend is different from me, but we often think alike. Besides, when I’m sad about my grades, she stays with me and encourages me to do better next time. Friendship is about helping each other, sharing happiness, and cheering each other on.
Lily, 13 years old I think it’s nice to have a close friend at school. He or she can be there with you and listen to you. However, it’s hard to find a best friend. So try to make different kinds of friends and share different things with each of them. Think of yourself as a magnetic (有磁性的) puzzle. Friends are the magnets (磁铁). Great friends stick (粘) well, and your best friend sticks the most. Each of my friends can teach me something special and make me happy. We help each other grow.

Ⅷ. 概要补全。 (74和76小题,每小题3分;75和77小题,每小题2分;共10分)
阅读文章,用恰当的短语或句子补全概要。补全部分总词数不超过30词,不能照抄原文连续超过3个词。
Do you accept (接纳) yourself It may sound like a strange question. Don’t we accept ourselves as a regular part of our life However, the truth is that many of us have trouble accepting ourselves as who we are. It’s not so hard to accept the good parts of ourselves, but what about the rest Surely people don’t want to accept things like their flaws (缺陷) or failure (失败). In fact, that’s exactly what we should do.
Rosy and Daisy, two 12-year-old school girls, got the same message on their phones, and it said, “You are fat and ugly; Open your eyes a little wider”. Rosy was in very low spirits and worried that the message would affect her. As a result, she didn’t go to school for a month. However, Daisy cared little about the message, and she reminded herself that she is a worthwhile (值得被爱) person, although she is a little fat.
How Daisy thought of the message is called self-acceptance (自我接纳). To practice self-acceptance, you need to like yourself the way you are, even if you have flaws or make mistakes. However, self-acceptance is not an excuse (借口) for accepting your bad behaviour (行为). It is the acceptance of yourself as an imperfect (不完美的) person: someone with strengths but also someone who makes mistakes.
With self-acceptance, you will become calmer and happier because you are not always trying to be someone else. When you accept yourself, you start seeing your good points. Besides, it can also help you make better friends because you feel comfortable being real. So we need to learn to accept ourselves.
Of course, accepting yourself is a journey that you need to practice throughout your whole life, not a final destination (目的地). So, starting today, try telling yourself: “I may not be perfect, but I am still worthy (值得) of love and acceptance.”
This passage talks about self-acceptance. It means ____50____, including (包括) the flaws and failures. The story of two girls, Rosy and Daisy, shows this. They both got a (n) ____51____ about their appearance. Rosy felt very sad and didn’t go to school. But Daisy knew she was a good person, although she wasn’t perfect, and she didn’t let the message hurt her. However, it isn’t an excuse for bad behavior. It means you should understand that ____52____. Self-acceptance helps you feel calmer and happier because you stop trying to be someone else. You will see your good points. It also helps you make better friends. So we need to accept ourselves. Self-acceptance is ____53____, not a final destination. Remember to tell yourself: “Although I am imperfect, I am still worthy of love and acceptance.”

My unforgettable trip
Everyone holds the memory of a truly unforgettable trip. My most memorable journey was to Huangshan Mountain with my parents during the National Day holiday last year.
The weather was perfect—sunny and cool. We started climbing early in the morning. The hike was tiring but amazing. We saw strangely shaped rocks and pine trees. The most breathtaking moment was watching the sunrise from the peak. The sea of clouds below us looked like a beautiful painting.
This trip is unforgettable not just because of the amazing scenery, but because I overcame the challenge of climbing the high mountain. I felt a great sense of achievement. It taught me that persistence leads to the most beautiful views. I will always cherish this memory.
