秋词(刘禹锡) 自古逢秋悲寂寥, 我言秋日胜春朝。 晴空一鹤排云上, 便引诗情到碧霄。 Song of AutumnSince olden days we feel in autumn sad and drear. But I say spring cannot compete with autumn clear On a fine day a crane cleaves the clouds and soars high; It leads the poet’s lofty mind to azure sky. (Translated by Xu Yuanchong)
①Poems from the Tang and Song dynasties, operas from the Yuan dynasty, and novels from the Ming and Qing dynasties are very famous in China’s history. Today, I’d like to recommend Song of Autumn, one of the poems by Liu Yuxi (772-842), a famous poet and writer in the mid Tang dynasty.
②Just as shown in the first line of the poem, most ancient poets liked to describe autumn as a sad time, but in this poem the season appears differently. In Liu’s eyes, autumn, full of life and hope, is even better than spring morning. He describes the bright scene of a crane riding the clouds and flying into the blue sky.
③With his poems paying special attention to expressing personal feelings, as well as the daily life of common people, Liu wrote poems with beautiful music-like words. You may feel it in this poem. Though being translated thoughtfully by experienced Xu Yuanchong, the poem still reads not so beautifully as that in Chinese. I personally think that English is sometimes not so powerful as Chinese.
④Here is another example. In Liu’s essay An Eulogium on a Humble Cell (《陋室铭》), with less than 100 words, he shows a lively picture of his humble cell. However, it also shows how he was pleased with the poor and simple life. People may find it strange that one can feel happy living in such a humble cell. Learning from his famous sentence “This hut of mine is a humble one, but I make it virtuously fragrant in repute”, I think to be a respectable man is more important than to live in big houses, to wear beautiful clothes, to enjoy delicious food, and even to gain knowledge.
16.Which dynasty is the poem Song of Autumn written in
A.Song. B.Yuan. C.Ming. D.Tang.
17.Which of the following is the feature of Liu Yuxi’s works according to the passage
A.Expressing personal feelings. B.Describing daily life of young people.
C.Picturing blue sky and a crane. D.Writing songs according to music.
18.What is the best Chinese for the underlined sentence in Paragraph 4
A.斯是陋室,惟吾德馨。 B.山不在高,有仙则名。
C.谈笑有鸿儒,往来无白丁。 D.苔痕上阶绿,草色入帘青。
19.Influenced by Liu Yuxi, which of the following does the writer think is the most important
A.To be a respectable man. B.To live in a big house.
C.To wear beautiful clothes. D.To gain more knowledge.
20.Which is the right structure (结构) of the passage
A. B. C. D.
C
Technology has brought ancient poets “back to life”. At the World Robot Conference 2023 in late August in Beijing, there were two robots that looked like the Chinese poets Li Bai and Du Fu. While Li Bai was holding up a cup of wine, Du Fu was sitting at a desk, writing.
These are called bionic(仿生的) robots. The robot’s skin is usually made of silicone (硅胶), CGTN explained in a video about Liaoning-based producer EXROBOTS. The robot’s skin is very soft. You can even see veins(血管)under the skin.
Another human-like robot also attracted attention recently. It was created by US company Apptronik. Named Apollo, it has around 30 muscles(肌肉). For now; the robot can only make simple movements, such as walking and waving(挥手). The robot’s head has cameras and sensors (传感器)inside. They can help it map out a 360-degree view (景象)of its environment. They also help the robot keep balance(平衡)when walking on unstable(不稳定的)surfaces.
Nowadays, bionic human-like robots mostly work with humans, such as by being tour guides or helping visitors at front desks. This could be because people are comfortable living and working with machines that look and act like them. They can “strike a chord(引起共鸣)with people,” a US robotics scientist Marc Raibert told New Yorker.
As more human-like robots come out, safety will be the key, according to the Robot Report website. When a 70-kilogram robot breaks down and falls, humans nearby may get hurt.
21.What does “brought ancient poets ‘back to life’” mean in Paragraph 1
A.Technology can make ancient poets come back to life.
B.The robots looked and acted like real ancient poets.
C.Visitors can experience real ancient life with new technology.
D.The robots can create better poems than poets.
22.The skin of robots made by EXROBOTS shows ________.
A.how human-like their robots are B.how soft the robot’s skin is
C.what the robot’s skin is made from D.how different it is from other robots
23.What can Apollo do with built-in sensors
A.Wave at humans. B.Walk stably. C.Know human faces. D.Draw attention.
24.In which situation can bionic robots help you now
A.When you want someone to repair your car B.When you want someone to travel with you
C.When you don’t want to do housework.
D.When you want to know the floor information of a building.
25.What do people worry about with human-like robots

Build your character
The benefits of a university education are well known.
Whether it’s allowing us to get the job of our dreams or giving us the chance to learn exciting new things, getting a degree学位 is one of the smartest life choices a person can make.
But if a recent study from Australia is to be believed, university education offers more than just a pathway路 to knowledge.
According to the research, which was published in the journal Oxford Economic Papers this month, people who have studied at university tend to have a more outgoing personality than those who haven’t.
Indeed, it’s believed that higher education allows students to not only build their knowledge of a certain subject, but also strengthen their so-called non-cognitive非认知性的 abilities, which include interpersonal and communication skills.
The researchers studied 575 young Australians over eight years, measuring certain non-cognitive abilities at different stages of their education, such as how confident each person was and their willingness to help others.
It was found that as each year of their time at university went by, most students’ non-cognitive skills improved greatly.
“We see quite clearly that students’ personalities change when they go to university,” said Sonja Kassenboehmer, lead author of the study.
And in a 2016 analysis分析 by UK education charity the Sutton Trust, it was found that those with good non-cognitive abilities were up to 25 percent more likely to be working in a well-paying job than those with poor or average ones.
So does this mean that in order to become a success, one must get a university degree Of course not.
In fact, the researchers found that the developments in character were a result of the students’ surroundings, rather than the content of their courses.
As most university students are seeing the world on their own for the first time, they must learn how to interact with互动 others and become liked if they’re to get ahead in life.
This could mean that those without a university education can still be as outgoing as those who have one, as long as they make the effort to expose themselves to character-building situations.
As US human rights activist Martin Luther King once said, “Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education.”
56.What’s the conclusion结论 of the research in the journal Oxford Economic Papers
57.What kind of abilities did the research test
58.Must people get a university degree to become successful
59.What’s the reason for the students’ developments in character
60.What’s the goal of true education according to Martin Luther King

Dear Tim,
I am glad to hear that you are invited to a Chinese friend’s house. Now, I am writing to tell you something about Chinese traditional customs.
First, it is proper for you to arrive early so that you can help the family prepare the dinner. Then you can greet each other by shaking hands. Besides, you’d better bring some meaningful gifts, such as a book or a Chinese knot. Finally, avoid making noises while chewing food, or you will be considered impolite. Don’t talk when eating. And you shouldn’t stick your chopsticks into the bowl.
I believe these suggestions will be of some help to you. Meanwhile, hope you have a good time.
Yours,
Li Hua
