People have different opinions about what makes a good friend. Some believe friends should be very much alike, while others think it’s better for friends to be different. Let’s look at what two young people have to say.
Li Ming feels that having a friend who is similar to you is a great thing. He says, “A good friend is like a mirror, you can learn about someone by looking at their friends.” Li Ming and his friend Zhang Wei enjoy many of the same things. They both love sports, especially basketball. Even though Zhang Wei is better at it, this encourages Li Ming to practise more and improve. Besides sports, they are both quiet and enjoy reading. Li Ming reads more science fiction, while Zhang Wei prefers history books, so they often share book recommendations. For Li Ming, having things in common makes their friendship strong and enjoyable.
On the other hand, Wang Fang prefers friends who are different from her. She believes differences help her grow. Wang Fang describes herself as a shy girl, but her has become more confident and now finds it fun to meet new people. She also has a friend named Chen Lei, who is very straightforward(直率的)and not afraid to point out when she is wrong. Wang Fang appreciates(感激)this. She says, “We should respect each other’s differences and learn from one another.”
Both views show that friendship can be valuable in different ways. Whether friends are similar or different, what matters most is that they support and help each other grow.

Rainforest Exploration
On the second day, we visited Hainan Ledong Jianfengling tropical Rainforest Park. As soon as we entered, we were surprised by the amazing jungle. Tall trees with strange roots grew high above us, and we heard funny bird sounds in the foggy air. The wet air made our clothes feel sticky and not comfortable.
Our guide told us how rainforests help keep Earth’s air(oxygen)clean. Using special tools, we looked closely at small insects on the leaves. We carefully wrote down what we saw and drew pictures in our science notebooks. We were very interested in the small world we found.
Suddenly, a boy shouted excitedly, “Look! Hainan gibbons(长臂猿)!” Everyone quickly stopped and watched quietly in surprise. These monkeys in danger moved beautifully through the trees, swinging from branch to branch like clever circus performers.
The path got harder as we walked up. We came to a long high bridge hanging between the big trees. Some of us felt a little afraid walking so high above the ground. Finally, after a tiring walk, we finally got to the top of the mountain. The wonderful view of the huge green forest below made us happy. This trip taught us that being brave and wanting to learn are good friends on an adventure.

We Can’t Live Without Frogs-Nature’s Helpers
Imagine you walk outside on a summer evening and hear no sound at all. No frogs singing, no movement in the pond—just quiet. At first, it might seem nice. But soon, you see more mosquitoes(蚊子)in the air, and the plants in the garden seem less healthy. At this moment, you realize how deeply people, plants, and other animals are connected. We depend on each other to live, and frogs offer one of the clearest examples of this connection.
Frogs are busy animals, and their main job is eating insects. In just one night, one frog can catch many bugs. Some of these bugs eat our crops or can make us sick. By eating them, frogs help farmers grow good food and let people enjoy being outside. Without frogs, there would be too many insects, and life would be harder. That’s why scientists say frogs are very important in nature.
Frogs are also some of the most interesting animals. For example, they change a lot as they grow—they start in the water as small eggs, become tadpoles(蝌蚪)swimming in the pond, and then turn into frogs that can live on land. Another interesting thing is how frogs talk to each other. Each kind of frog has its own special sound. They call to find other frogs, to say “this is my home,” and to tell friends about danger.
Frogs are important for keeping our world healthy. But now, there are fewer frogs in many places, and scientists are worried. Frogs need us, and we can help—by keeping water clean and saving the places where they live. Let’s think about what we can do to protect these special animals.
