Last winter, I planned a short ski trip to the mountains with my 9-year-old son, Max. Max is a kind boy, but he is also quite shy and careful. He doesn’t like to try new things, especially if they seem frightening. New foods, tall trees, deep water - he usually says no before he even tries.
I wanted this trip to be different. So before we packed our bags, I told him, “This time, we’ll say yes to new things.” He laughed a little, not sure I really meant it.
Our first test came at the airport restaurant. I ordered a bowl of hot noodles I’d never tried before. And Max chose a piece of funny green bread that caught his eye. He looked at it for a while and said, “It looks strange.” But after one small taste, he smiled. “It’s actually good!” he said. It was a small step, but a good start.
When we arrived at our destination, everything looked huge --- the mountains, the ski hits, even the piles (堆) of snow. Max looked up at the slopes (坡道) and said, “They look really high.” I smiled and said, “We’ll learn together.”
The next morning, we joined a beginner’s ski class. I was nervous too --- I hadn’t skied for years. The coach taught us how to put on our skis, how to use ski poles (滑雪杆) and how to stop and turn. Max listened carefully but didn’t move much.
“I don’t think I can do it,” he said quietly.
I could see the fear in his eyes. “Let’s say yes.” I told him. “Watch me first.”
My heart was pounding wildly, but I pushed off slowly, and skied down the slope. My turns were awkward and I almost fell, but when I reached the bottom, I laughed. I looked up at Max and waved “See It’s not perfect, but it’s fun! Come on, Max!”

Max, a 9-year-old boy, was kind but quite shy and careful, and he disliked trying new things very much. To help him break through himself, his father planned a short ski trip to the mountains and made an agreement with him to "say yes to new things" before departure. At the airport restaurant, both father and son tried new foods. Max found that the funny green bread he thought strange was actually delicious, taking a small step forward. When arriving at the ski resort, the tall slopes made Max feel frightened. In the beginner's ski class, the coach taught basic skills, but Max dared not try due to fear and said he couldn't do it. To encourage him, his father demonstrated skiing in person. Though his movements were clumsy and he almost fell, he showed Max the fun of skiing. The father hoped that through this experience, Max would truly be willing to accept new things.

Max was so shy that he even dared not look at the new food directly at first.
Max thought for a while and then moved to the top of the slope.
After that trip, Max changed a lot.

Max thought for a while and then moved to the top of the slope.
思路:→①Max握紧滑雪杖,眼神从犹豫变得坚定,按照教练教的方法做好准备姿势→②Max慢慢推离坡道,初期动作有些僵硬差点失衡,他赶紧调整重心,想起父亲的示范逐渐放松,顺利完成转弯和停止→③Max滑到终点后兴奋地欢呼,父亲冲过去拥抱他,他主动提出再滑一次;
Max thought for a while and then moved to the top of the slope. He gripped his ski poles tightly, his eyes changing from hesitant to firm. He bent his knees slightly and got into the starting position as the coach had taught. With a deep breath, he pushed off gently. At first, his movements were stiff, and he wobbled a little as if he might fall. But he quickly adjusted his center of gravity, recalling my awkward but joyful demonstration. He turned carefully and stopped smoothly at the bottom. "Dad, I did it!" he yelled excitedly. I rushed over and hugged him tightly. Before I could speak, he pulled me toward the slope, "Let's go again!"
After that trip, Max changed a lot.
思路:→④Max主动尝试新菜品、报名绘画班,面对陌生事物不再直接拒绝,会先尝试再判断→⑤父亲看到Max的转变十分欣慰,明白耐心引导比强迫更有效→⑥父子俩都懂得,勇敢迈出第一步,才能发现新事物的美好,亲情的陪伴与鼓励是成长的动力;
After that trip, Max changed a lot. He no longer refused new things without trying. At dinner, he volunteered to taste the new stir-fried vegetables my wife cooked. He even signed up for the school art class, something he would have avoided before. One day, he said to me, "Dad, 'saying yes' makes life more fun!" I felt a surge of relief and pride. I realized that pushing him gently and setting a good example was far better than forcing him. That ski trip didn't just teach Max to ski; it taught both of us that courage to try comes from love and encouragement, and new experiences bring precious growth.
