意群是指一个句子中，在意义和语法结构上都紧密相连的一组词语。它是一个相对的概念，一个句子可以作为一个大的意群，也可以被划分为多个小的意群。恰当划分意群是流利口语的关键，它能让你的表达清晰、有节奏，并符合母语者的听觉习惯。
短暂停顿 ( | ) ：在意群之间。
较长停顿 ( || )：在句子之间。

解析： "After school," 是时间状语，一个意群。
"we played basketball" 是核心主谓宾，一个意群。
"for an hour" 是补充说明时长，一个意群。
