Nowadays, memes (表情包) and emojis have become common ways to express one’s feelings. However, this simple approach neglects (忽略) richer ways of self-expression. A recent survey by China Youth Daily found that over half of young people feel their language skills are declining, with 47.1 percent citing limited vocabulary and expression. I’m always up-to-date when browsing the internet, so I’ve become accustomed to using the latest internet slang (俚语) in my daily communication. While they add humor, I’ve noticed that I struggle with expressing myself clearly in writing.
So, why do we need richer ways of expression It’s because everyone’s feelings are unique and can’t always be easily categorized, even if they seem similar. One solution is to avoid relying solely on buzzwords (流行词汇) and instead describe things more formally. Another approach is to read more. Just as the saying goes, “Garbage in, garbage out.” Reading can enrich our vocabulary and improve our communication skills.
Buzzwords are like snacks. They may seem convenient and tasty, but ultimately, they can’t substitute (代替) for a balanced diet. Similarly, while buzzwords have their place, we shouldn’t rely on them exclusively (单独的) for meaningful communication.

I’m not great with words. But I think it’s OK because I like painting and when I paint, I can show how I feel without needing a lot of words.
One time, I had to write a speech for school. I was stuck. But then I remembered my paintbrushes. So instead of stressing over words, I painted how I felt. When I showed my painting to my teacher, she was impressed. Painting then became my unique way to share feelings.
With the rise of online media, I believe that using memes and emojis to express oneself is valid (有效的). These visual elements provide a quick way to communicate emotions and ideas in online conversations. Moreover, they bridge language barriers and offer a universal language that transcends (超越) cultural differences.
Apart from memes and buzzwords, we have many ways to express ourselves creatively. Music lets us share our feelings with songs and words. Dance helps us tell stories with our bodies. And there are other ways too, like photography or even cooking. These different ways of being creative show others who we are.
