Read the sentences and talk about what you can find.
While we're staying with our friends，we're going to spend one day in Qingdao.

时间状语从句：用从句来表达一件事情或一个行为发生的时间。
由after, as soon as, before, since, until, when, while引导时间状语从句。
Warming up
引导时间状语从句:“当......的时侯”，既可以表示在某一时间点发生的事，又可以表示在某一时间段发生的事。
主句与从句描述的动作或事情可以同时发生,也可以先后发生。
I loved math when I was at school.
我在学校时喜欢数学。
He looked aside when I spoke to him.
我对他说话的时候，他向旁边看。
1. 由 when 引导的时间状语从句
引导时间状语从句，意为“当……时候”“在……期间”。
强调主句和从句的描述的动作同时发生。
His parents died while he was at school.
在他上学期间他父母去世了。
2. 由 while 引导的时间状语从句
as soon as引导的时间状语从句
as soon as表示“一……就……”，强调动作紧密相连。
We began to work as soon as we got there.
我们一到那儿就开始工作了。
e.g. I will phone you as soon as I arrive.
我一到就会给你打电话。
如何主句表示将来时，从句常用现在时。
when只能指一段时间，而不能指时间点。
从句的动作或与主句的动作同时发生，或主句的动作是在从句动作的过程中发生的。
因此，从句中的动词必须是表示延续性动作或状态的动词。
While I was sleeping, my brother came in.
当我在睡觉的时候，我弟弟进来了。
He visited a lot of places while he was traveling.
他在旅途中参观了许多地方。
when与while 都意为“当……的时候”。
when 引导的时间状语从句, 谓语动词既可以是持续性的, 也可以是终止性的；
而while引导的时间状语从句, 谓语动词只能是持续性的, 并且常用进行时态。
When he woke up, it was eight o’clock．
While he woke up, it was eight o’clock．
When I was waiting for a bus, I met her．

表示主句和从句的动作同时发生；
“随着”或者一个动作随着另一个动作的发生

6. since 的用法
“自从……”，常与完成时连用。
I have known Bill since he was born.
从比尔出生起，我就认识他。
7. until的用法
until “直到……为止”（主从用肯定句）
not...until “直到……才”（主句用否定，从句用肯定）
注意：主句为一般将来时，until引导的时间状语从句要用一般现在时表将来。
He waited until all the guests left. 他一直等到所有客人都走了。
The children won’t go home until it is dark.
直到天黑，孩子们才回家。

Apart from Independence Day，Labour Day and Thanksgiving，the US has several other important holidays during the year. Martin Luther King Day in January celebrates the birthday of the great civil rights leader. Columbus Day in October remembers Christopher Columbus' arrival in the Americas in 1492.
