My role model is Qian Xuesen, an outstanding scientist titled “the Father of China's aerospace”. Qian was born in December, 1911 and passed away in October, 2009. Having graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1934, he set out for Massachusetts Institute of Technology to pursue advanced study in 1935, and a year later California Institute of Technology, where he obtained two doctorates in 1939. Out of a strong love for his homeland, he was determined to go back to China. Though encountering many difficulties, eventually he made his return to China with great resolution in 1955. He devoted himself whole-heartedly to scientific research during his lifetime, making remarkable achievements in the Chinese aerospace industry.
Greatly inspired by his patriotism and self-sacrifice, I'm longing to make great contributions to our country as well.
THE MAN WHO FEED CHINA AND THE WORLD
Born on September 7th, 1930 in Beijing, Yuan Longping, one of the most renowned scientists in China, showed keen interest in agriculture when he was young.
Graduating from Southwest Agricultural College in 1953, Yuan has done research on rice for over half a century, devoting all his time and energy to the study of agriculture. As a matter of fact, Dr. Yuan was a dilligent and sympathetic(有同情心的) person. Seeing so many people suffering from hunger, he felt sad and was determined to find new ways to grow more rice. With his hard work, he grew a new kind of rice, which is called “Super Hybrid Rice”. Thanks to his research, China’s rice production is increasing rapidly, solving the problem of the shortage of food for many countries. Consequently, he is hailed as “Father of Hybrid Rice”and was rewarded with many prizes for his great contributions to the world.
Famous as he was, he cared little for money and fame. On 22nd May 2021, the whole country was saddened by Yuan’s death, but he will be alive in people’s heart forever.
